Conquering the Effects of Aging

No one looks forward to wrinkles, low energy and other effects of aging on the body.

When searching for their "fountain of youth," the biggest mistake that people make is buying an anti-

aging cream and calling it a day. But the key to delaying the effects of aging is to change your lifestyle.

According to the National Institute on Aging, exercising regularly is the first step in fighting the effects of aging. Exercise helps you maintain healthy bones and joints, control weight, improve your mood and strengthen your muscles. Experts say that exercise also conditions the skin to make collagen, the support fibers that help keep wrinkles and lines under control.

The National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion suggests eating a balanced diet that's low in saturated fats and contains at least five servings of fruits and vegetables a day. Also, more doctors are stressing the importance of taking a supplement to reduce the signs and symptoms of aging.

For example, Revive, from the "Spray" line of sublingual sprays, was developed by doctors to help prevent or reduce sleeplessness, low energy, poor muscle/fat balance, poor skin elasticity and low libido. It is able to provide relief of these symptoms of aging by restoring the body's endocrine system functions, which are instrumental in regulating mood, tissue function and other internal activity.

Recent study results show that Revive starts to work immediately after use. According to Gwen Sconears, 70, of Gridley, Calif., the spray even helped her 45-year-old son, Randy Molanari, who suffers from a debilitating disease.

"My son has severe muscular dystrophy and has noticed significant improvement in his muscular pain and improvement in his energy level. After seeing my son's results with Revive, I began taking the product as well. Not only do I feel great with less back pain, people have told me that I look much younger," she said.

Plastic Surgery Do Not Believe the Hype

When is a beautiful model in a publication not really a beautiful model? When someone has played funny with the image!

You read magazines. I read magazines. We all read magazines. We all think the same thing: My God, there are some beautiful people in the world. Or are there?

Of course, there are incredibly beautiful people in the world. The uber couple of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are just one example. Many of the photographs you see in magazines, however, are not exactly accurate. This is also true for the Internet.

The massive improvements in software over the last 10 years have led to some interesting developments. In this case, we are talking about digital editing software. Editing software is all about touching up photographs. Prior to the digital revolution, this meant images would get small changes to correct minor imperfections. In the digital age, it is fairly shocking models are actually employed any longer.

Using basic desktop programs such as Adobe Photoshop, one can mold a body into practically anything you want. Hair can be made longer, shorter or a different color. Noses can be made bigger, smaller, wider, darker or lighter. Prefer the model to look insanely thin? Just start pointing and clicking. The same goes for any part of the body. If a photograph does not have the correct lighting for a magazine cover, it can be corrected using software.

Is there anything wrong with this? Yes and no. On one hand, there is not law against touching up photographs to fit a marketing position nor should there be. There is, however, an indirect downside. Many people view these images as a goal for their personal appearance.

When considering plastic surgery, you must be objective about the potential results. It is highly unlikely you are going to look like the model in your favorite image. Heck, the model did not even look like that until undergoing a bit of editing! Plastic surgery has come a long way, but it has its limits.

Plastic surgery is designed to enhance your personal appearance. That being said, it is important that you have reasonable expectations. Forget the images in magazines. Sit down with your plastic surgeon and get an opinion from them regarding what you can expect in regard to results. If those results sound attractive, go ahead. If they dont sound like enough of an improvement, then surgery probably is not a good option.

Essential Hair "Do's". New Survey Reveals American Women's Hair Care Habits

Long gone are the days of the weekly "wash and set" at the beauty parlor. Today-no matter what type of hair you have-there are products and hairstyles made for you.

A new online poll commissioned by Regis Corporation and conducted by Impulse Research Corporation of 1,631 women across the U.S. reveals that many of them aren't taking advantage of today's "hair technology." Based on their findings, Regis has put together a list of some essential hair "do's":

• Change Your Color With the Seasons: With today's advancements in color, you can lowlight, highlight or mix it up. Regis Salons' Mary Gail Hall suggests matching your color to the amount of sun in a season. "In the summer, add highlights to your hair to lighten it up. In the fall, add some lowlights to your hair and go a bit darker."

• Protect Your Hair Color: If you are among the 71.3 percent of women who color their hair, protect your color with specially formulated shampoo for color-treated hair, which helps to keep the color true. Some of the most popular include Regis designLINE Color Care Shampoo and Conditioner, Matrix color.smart and Redken Color Extend.

• Use Styling Products: Virtually all the women surveyed (98.9 percent) use conditioner, but less than 50 percent of them use any styling or finishing products, such as spray, gel, wax, pomade or shine drops. With today's advancements in hair technology, styling products make all the difference in your style's look and function. Product-focused salons such as Trade Secret carry all the top, professional hair care brands, including Paul Mitchell, Sebastian and Matrix. Not sure of which one to use? Trade Secret's stylists and beauty advisors can recommend the perfect product for your hair type.

Multi-task: Time with the family can be hectic. Save time by bringing everyone to your local no-appointment-needed mall salon, such as MasterCuts, where stylists can take care of the whole family. And remember, to keep everyone looking great, stay on a six- to eight-week hair care schedule.

Cosmetic Surgery Abroad Making the Right Choice

The past few years have seen a dramatic change in the public perception of cosmetic surgery in Britain, leading to a sixty five per cent increase in demand in 2004 alone. In fact, so popular has cosmetic surgery become that it is hard to turn on the television or open a magazine without encountering stories of lives transformed as a result of work being done. Vastly improved treatments and increased social acceptance has lead to cosmetic surgery becoming a normalised practice, as viable and realistic to the housewife as it is to the Hollywood star. None of which is surprising, considering the very real and immediate benefits cosmetic surgery can bring to the patients appearance and self-esteem.

However, cosmetic surgery can still be beyond the budget of many, which is why there is a growing trend for people to travel to parts of the world where the standard of expertise and post-operation care is just as good as in the United Kingdom, but up to sixty percent cheaper. Such savings are made due to favorable exchange rates This is particularly significant when you consider that medical health insurance doesnt cover the cost of elective cosmetic surgery. So now patients are choosing to enjoy holidays to exotic destinations such as Malaysia and Thailand in addition to improving their appearance.

No country is more suited to this combination than Brazil, land of sun and sea and the body beautiful, and second only to the United States in terms of the number of surgical operations performed every year. The 3500 plus members of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery are renowned for their experience and expertise, which makes sense when you consider that 80% of all plastic surgery in the United Kingdom is reconstructive, whereas 80% of all plastic surgery in Brazil is cosmetic, and that cosmetic surgery magazines clutter up the shelves in newsagents the same way that computer and golf magazines do here. The level of service in the Brazilian private health sector is extremely high, to mention all of those wonderful beaches you can strut your stuff down after youve made a full recovery!

Of course, another benefit of having cosmetic surgery abroad is that it guarantees total privacy, so that you wont need to worry about friends, neighbours and work colleagues seeing you in the immediate aftermath of the operation. You can recover in a relaxed environment, choose who you want to see and have all manner of complementary therapies and additional work done while youre at it. In order to make the most of your stay in the country and feel confident youve hired a surgeon with the sufficient level of expertise to carry out the work, it is advisable to engage the services of a cosmetic surgery company who regularly deals with sending clients from the United Kingdom to Brazil, or your country of choice. This will also insure that you are given the appropriate level of follow-up care, including careful monitoring in the days immediately following surgery. Not only will this give you piece of mind, but it will save you money as the company uses contacts that have been built up in the country over a number of years.

Regardless of this, it is worth understanding that all types of surgery carry a degree of risk and that surgical results differ from person to person and depend on many factors, including the patients age, medical history and health, and that results may be slightly different from those that you were expecting. As such, it is a good indication of the responsibility and professionalism of the surgeon that such things are discussed in detail before any operation takes place and you are aware of any complications or side effects that may occur, no matter how rare. Also, that the surgeon is available to discuss and treat side effects or complications as and when they arise. If such things are not immediately offered it is advisable to consider this a warning sign and start looking for a different surgeon. After all, you can take as long as you want selecting a surgeon you feel comfortable with, but you will be living with the results for the rest of your life.

An Insight Into Colored Contacts...

Since they were first developed as hard glass lenses in the 1950s, contacts have gone through many transformations and technical improvements in quality, look and feel.

Today, with the modern advancements of disposable lenses and toric lenses, more and more people are changing from spectacles and enjoying the benefits of corrective eye lenses.

The latest, exciting development and daring innovation in the contact lens industry, however, is the fabulously varied colored contacts that are now widely available and gaining in popularity.

Gone are the days when contact lenses were worn as a sight correction device. They are far more than just functional corrective eye wear - they're now funky, fun and an outrageously theatrical fashion statement!

Colored contacts let you suggestively enhance the color of your eyes on a permanent basis or just for an occasional night when you want to accessorize with a particular outfit.

Now - whatever the occasion you can make a truly unforgettable 'eye catching' appearance and show off your extraordinary 'eye catching' style!

There are four different types of colored contacts for you to choose from - visibility tints, enhancement tints, opaque-color tints and light-filtering tints.

But the best thing of all is most of these come in styles that can be worn by people who do not necessarily need corrective eye wear. These style contacts are known as plano form lenses.

Visibility tint colored contacts have a practical application. They have a light blue or green tint that, although not visible when being worn, allows you to see them when you are inserting or removing the lenses. And when (not if!) you drop them they are much easier to find!

In contrast, enhancement tint colored contacts have a translucent but darker tint to them. These lenses are not meant to alter or change the shade of your eyes but rather to enrich and enhance your existing eye color - hence, their name.

The Opaque color lenses with their dazzling array of colors have the most dramatic impact and can completely change your eye shade from brown to blue, blue to purple, etc. Wear them as a fashion statement or just for a change of mood if you want.

Light-filtering contacts also have a practical application. When wearing these they will greatly enchance certain colors in your field of view, making them easier for you to see.

Having trouble driving that tiny little golf ball down the fairway? Wearing a pair of these performance lenses will make that golf ball stand out and easier for you to hit. These performance tested lenses will be the next step forward in corrective eye wear.

Should You Make The Switch to Natural Make-Up?

Should you make the switch to all-natural make-up? There are plenty of companies, advertisements, and experts who could probably give you a very convincing argument either way. Dr. Roberta Palestine, who did her residency at the Mayo Clinic in dermatology stated, Natural isnt always better. Synthetic isnt necessarily worse. Poison Ivy is natural, but that certainly doesnt make it gooda chemical is a chemical, what matters is your skin type. There are certainly a lot of skin types out there, and you can bet for every type theres a number of make-up products for that particular kind.

Women who suffer from allergies and have been limited on their choices in make-up now have more options as more companies come out with products that are gentle on the skin and hypoallergenic. It should be noted that hypoallergenic has no medical definition, as it is yet to be determined what ingredients reduce allergens. So are natural make-up products all that they are cracked-up to be? A quick look at the ingredients list will tell the consumer what the main ingredients are on a product because they are listed in order of volume ratio. Often times, the ingredients will be listed on the packaging the make-up came in.

Often women will be allergic to a product and not even realize it. Over the years, women get used to dry, irritated skin that comes from repeated use of the kinds of make-up they wear out in public and to work. Women who wear a foundation make-up to even out the skin tone on their faces will dry out and aggravate their skin so each day is a little worse. Women with sensitive skin should avoid products with fragrances, mineral oil, formaldehyde, and alcohol. These chemicals will all dry out the skin and cause irritation.

When switching make-ups often times the skin will have to undergo an adjustment period. So women who are thinking about switching to natural cosmetics should go with it 100%. By doing this, the skin only has to go through the adjustment phase one time. If you are thinking about making the switch, it is important to consider the ingredients in a product that claims to be all natural. Do some research before trying out a new make-up line to see if it is a reputable company that uses quality ingredients and stands behind the products they produce. So should you make the switch? Its a matter of personal choice but if you think the products you currently use are affecting your skin, at least consider it.

How To Dye Your Pubic Hair

More recently, women have become aware about the condition of their pubic hair. From Brazilian waxes to pubic hair shaping and pubic shaving, women are starting to treat their pubic region with much more care and attention. For a lot of women, shaving their pubic region is a step too far and many would just like to improve the look of their pubic hair. One easy way to do this is by coloring or dyeing your pubic hair.

Coloring or dyeing your pubic hair is a quick and easy way to cover over some of those gray hairs that may be creeping in. Alternatively, you may just want a change and what better way to surprise your partner than with a new pubic hair color?

One important point to make at this stage is that sometimes hair colors and dyes may cause irritability. With the pubic region being such a sensitive area great care must be taken not to irritate or damage the skin in any way.

How to Dye Your Pubic Hair.

The first step is to obtain your hair dye. Go down to your favorite beauty/hair/drug store and purchase a standard hair dye coloring kit that best matches your pubic hair color. One great tip here is that because pubic hair can be coarser and slightly darker than your head hair; go for one shade darker than you would if you were buying for your head hair.

Although you may already be using a favorite hair dye product, it would be wise to test the hair coloring on a small patch of skin on your pubic area. If ANY signs of redness/itching/soreness or other adverse effects arise do not go any further and seek medical advice about using such products.

Before going any further, take the instructions from the Hair Dyeing product and read the instructions CAREFULLY. Once you have satisfied yourself that you understand them fully, continue to the next step.

You are now ready to dye your pubic hair.

Apply a small amount of petroleum jelly on the sensitive areas of your genitals. If any spills occur, this will prevent the dye getting to your most sensitive areas. Once you have done this, put on the gloves that are provided with the Hair Dye product. Now mix the color as per instructions and then add a small amount of moisturizing shampoo to the mix. Make sure they are completely mixed together.

Now gently brush the mix onto your pubic hairs, concentrating on the areas that need most attention. Leave the mixture applied as laid out in the instructions, usually 10 minutes to 30 minutes.

Don't worry if you did not achieve the color you wanted on the first attempt. Wait a few days (to avoid irritation) and just re-apply as laid out above. Eventually you will build to the color you desired.

Enjoy your new look!

Cosmetic Surgery - Are You Covered By Health Insurance?

Cosmetic surgery, in its true sense, is an elective procedure that is performed to reshape or enhance body parts a patient may find unflattering. Since cosmetic surgery has an intrinsic aesthetic intent, it is usually not covered by health insurance. The argument put forth by insurance firms is that a person can very well do without cosmetic surgery, and the procedure is used for mere beautification instead of being a life saving surgery. On the other hand, reconstructive surgery is generally covered by health insurance, though the extent of coverage may vary a lot from one case to another.

In many ways, the answer to the insurance question lies in discerning whether the plastic surgery procedure is cosmetic or reconstructive. For instance, abdominoplasty (or tummy tuck), when performed on an obese patient to guard the patient against heart problems, is eligible for health insurance. Breast reduction surgery, when carried out with the intent of reducing weight of the breasts to curtail orthopedic pain, is typically covered by health insurance. On the other hand, breast implants or augmentations are performed with the aesthetic aspect in mind and, therefore, dont normally qualify for an insurance.

There is a fine line dividing the two categories of plastic surgery, namely cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, as far as eligibility for insurance is concerned. For instance, eyelid surgery, when performed to attain an aesthetic enhancement is considered cosmetic and ineligible for insurance. The same procedure may be covered by insurance if the eyelids are drooping to the extent of obscuring a patients vision. The hard fact remains that most of the plastic surgery procedures are performed with an aesthetical intent, in order to enhance alluring portions of the body.

To summarise, plastic surgery that is performed to improve function instead of aesthetics is normally eligible for an insurance cover. However, its best to discuss your case with an insurance agent, in order to determine if you are eligible for an insurance cover.

Unwrapping The Health Benefits Of Chewing Gum

One method used to maintain astronauts' oral health isn't exactly rocket science. It's sugarless chewing gum-and it's not only been linked to healthy teeth, it's been found to have a number of other benefits as well.

Here's a closer look:

Out Of This World

In 1964, NASA began giving astronauts sugarless chewing gum for their space missions. Since the astronauts were fed through a tube, their gums tended to swell because they were not actually chewing their food. Chewing gum helped keep their teeth and gums healthy and strong.

Healthy Smile, Healthy Body

Sugar-free gum has been shown to help reduce the incidence of tooth decay--a condition believed to affect half of all adults and to be the most common chronic childhood disease of childhood. It's estimated that Americans spend $60 billion a year to treat tooth decay-and it is money well spent. Tooth decay can cause tooth loss, which can lead to malnutrition.

More Reason To Smile

The health benefits of gum don't stop there. The makers of Trident sugarless gum, Cadbury Adams USA LLC also offer a product called Trident White. According to Cadbury Adams-the U.S. business unit of confectionery and beverage leader Cadbury Schweppes (NYSE: CSG)--the gum not only whitens teeth and helps prevent stains, it also provides additional oral health benefits. It features Recaldent, a remineralizing ingredient that helps strengthen teeth. The gum's whitening agent is completely nonabrasive (unlike gums that use baking soda to whiten) and does not contribute to tooth sensitivity.

Chew To A New You

An added benefit of chewing gum: It's low in calories. Sugar free gum usually has about five calories. That means it can be a smart way for dieters to help satisfy snack cravings. For instance, Trident Splash is a sugar-free gum that Cadbury Adams says was actually designed to be a great tasting snack alternative that's good for your teeth. The gum is a unique combination of textures-a liquid center surrounded by soft, chewy gum and a sweet, crispy outer shell-and it comes in two surprising flavors: peppermint with vanilla and strawberry with lime.

Not Just Lip Service

According to the National Association of Chewing Gum Manufacturers, chewing gum:

• Relaxes and eases tension

• Helps concentration

• Helps people resist the urge to smoke

• Reduces ear discomfort when flying

• Cleans teeth after meals.

Japanese Hair Straightening Is It Right for You?

Japanese Hair Straightening, also known as Thermal Reconditioning, is one very popular hair straightening technique you just might want to think twice about before having done.

Originating in Japan in the late 90s the chemical products used in the process go by the names Liscio, Yuko and U.S. made Bio Ionics.

The treatment can take anywhere from 3 to 6 hours and involves numerous steps with costs ranging from $300 to $1,500 depending on the salon.

A cheaper price should raise some red flags as to the quality of the chemicals used or the expertise of the stylist according to the experts.

The result is permanently straight hair but after 4 to 6 months any new hair growth will need to be treated as well. This usually costs close to the same amount as the original treatment because it is a more time-consuming process involving straightening hair closer to the roots.

Because of the chemicals and techniques used you will not be able to curl the treated hair so you definitely want to take that into consideration beforehand.

There is also a growing concern from some stylists that thermal reconditioning may not be the perfect hair straightening solution after all.

First off, experts estimate that at least 80 percent of people that are having the treatment are not really good reconditioning candidates for several reasons:

Any recent chemical processes done to your hair such as hair coloring, bleaching or hair relaxing can cause serious problems including hair loss and breakage if you elect to have the treatment done. A hair strand test must be done first to determine whether your hair can accept the chemicals. If the salon does not offer a strand test you might want to reconsider who you trust your hair to.

It does not work on African hair because it is too fragile and cant take the heat required during the straightening process. It is not the same as a hair relaxer which is made especially for African hair.

In fact, a growing number of women are claiming serious hair breakage problems and it has been reported in the press that one of the top Hollywood celebrity hair stylists refuses to perform the treatment because she thinks it is too much of a risk to her clients hair.

Many women are led to believe that the process is actually good for your hair but there have been no clinical studies to prove this and by definition anything that physically alters the hair structure at the molecular level is damaging.

Even though many women have had the Japanese Hair Straightening process done to their hair with great success you should know that there can be some risk involved and if you decide to have it done to your hair be sure you use a reputable salon with properly trained stylists that will test your hair first.

Pigmentation reducing creams - the cure worse than the cause

Therapists should be alarmed to read about recent research relating to hydroquinone causing cancer. Although hydroquinone creams are banned for use in cosmetics you may be still be giving hydroquinone to your clients without being aware. Recent evidence on the long term damage of hydroquinone has made this a critical issue for therapists to assess management of client's pigmentation issues.

Hydroquinone has been used for many years to reduce pigmentation by acting on melanin producing cells. This action can destroy the pigment making cells (melanocytes) and alter the structure of melanosomes (packets of pigment which are made by the melanocytes and passed to new skin cells as they are formed).

Hydroquinone was banned in January 2001 in cosmetics because of the potential damage it can do to the skin in terms of irritating the skin and creating white areas where no pigment can be made or in some cases turning the skin black. It is still prescribed by dermatologists in hospital but they are gradually switching to alternatives as new safety data comes to light. Recent studies have shown the potential of hydroquinone to cause cancer.

Significant importation of hydroquinone creams still occurs from countries where it is yet to be banned and a strong black market trade exists in the UK. This is bad enough but more concerning is that companies can still sell products containing arbutin and bearberry legally. Arbutin is the glycopyranoside of hydroquinone. This mouthful means that when this molecule is in the skin it breaks down and releases hydroquinone. Bearberry is a natural source of arbutin. So in fact many people are still effectively getting hydroquinone albeit by a different method. This issue of substitute sources of hydroquinone has been raised with the EEC but they have yet to respond; although they have classified hydroquinone as a potential cancer agent.

Hydroquinone has been shown to cause blood cancers such as leukaemia and kidney damage in animal studies. When applied to the skin it is absorbed into the blood stream and excreted via the kidneys but at a slower rate. This tells us that hydroquinone accumulates in the body. It is broken down in the bone marrow to p-benzoquinone and this is where long term damage may originate.

Hydroquinone creams are routinely used for four to six weeks minimum and many people use it for social lightening of a dark complexion over many years. There is strong evidence now that safer alternatives should be used which are as effective in many cases but without the long term risks.

This information has been brought to light by a recent review by Dr W Westerhof and T J Kooyers of the Netherlands Institute for Pigment Disorders and the Department of

Dermatology at the University on the health risks of hydroquinone and its analogues. They are pleading with the authorities to ban all sources of hydroquinone immediately.

Closed Nose Job Procedure

While it is true that a nose job is one of the most common forms of plastic surgery, there is more than just one procedure. This brings us to the subject of closed nose job.

Closed Nose Job Procedure

When choosing plastic surgery, it is important to have all of the information and options for your type of procedure presented to you beforehand. This is especially important with a nose job. A nose job is a procedure where the surgeon forms or shapes the nose to a desired position. In performing a nose job procedure, surgeons have two choices on how to proceed: open nose job or closed nose job.

An open nose job is by far the most common technique used to cosmetically (and medically) correct issues with the nose. In an open nose job, a small incision is made in the columella, which is the small column of skin that separates the nostrils. When this incision is made, the surgeon is able to lift the skin off of the nose exposing all of the tissue underneath including the cartilage. Surgeons find this easier to work with than a closed nose job, as they are more easily able to see all of the nasal structures. They can also work on the nasal tip cartilage in its natural position, making it easier to see how the final result of the surgery will come out. The biggest disadvantage to this surgery is the little scar left on the outside of the nose in the columella, though it does heal to an unnoticeable size in most people.

A closed nose job, on the other hand, leaves no external scarring. All of the incisions made with a closed nose job take place internally through other openings in the nose, and some feel that it heals more quickly. A closed nose job is better for nasal surgery that requires less extensive shaping and work than someone who would need open nose job. It is not recommended for extensive reconstruction or surgeries that require a lot of work done on the cartilage at the tip of the nose. The two biggest advantages to closed nose jobs are the lack of any scars, and usually, a shorter surgery time.

Only your board certified plastic surgeon will know for sure whether an open nose job or closed nose job is the right surgery for your nasal needs. Be sure to consult with your doctor and weigh the options carefully before choosing a type of nose job. If you have your heart set on a closed nose job and your surgeon feels it is not right for you, a second opinion is always a good option. Just be sure to feel completely comfortable with your choice before proceeding.

Hot Methods Of Teeth Whitening

Different methods of teeth whitening methods are applied by dentists that depend on the type of stains and other physical conditions of the teeth. One teeth whitening method is the use of in-office bleaching or chair-side bleaching. This method of teeth whitening requires two or more visits to the dentist and each visit lasts for thirty minutes to one hour. During the bleaching process, the dentist applies protective gel to the lips and rubber shields to the gum to protect the soft oral tissues from the bleaching agents that are to be applied to whiten the teeth. Sometimes lasers or additional heat is used to enhance the action of the agent. The effects of this method of teeth whitening are long lasting.

Home bleaching is another popular method of teeth whitening. There are many teeth whitening kits available for use at home, which are either prescribed by the dentist or purchased over-the-counter. The teeth whitening kit contains a hydrogen peroxide based bleaching gel or solution that is to be applied to the tooth enamel together with a mouth guard. The lasting effect of teeth whitening varies with the frequency of use and the duration of treatment.

There are however, certain advantages and disadvantages of these methods of teeth whitening. The advantage of the hot methods is that they are faster in comparison to other whitening techniques and very much effective in case of darker stains. However, the biggest disadvantage is that due to excessive heat these methods of teeth whitening leaves behind teeth sensitivity that can even damage permanently the nerves of the teeth. The chemicals used in these hot methods are also very strong and if they accidentally touch the gums, lips or the face of the patient will give them a burn. You may try various methods of teeth whitening. It sure worth it!

Beauty Of Tanned Skin - What Is The Cost?

Tanned skin is loved by most of the white skinned people. Who will say that he/she does not like tanned skin? What about the cost of getting tanned skin? I am not talking in term of dollars, but life. It is death due to skin cancer. There are many ideas about tanning that people believe and think that they are safe. Let us talk about them.

Many of us believe that use of tanning oils on skin and then getting tanned is safe. But that is not true. No tanning oil prevents the sun. If it had prevented sun, you would not have got tanned! Tanning skin is only due to the UV radiation and radiation damages and causes skin cancer.

A swim after tanning skin protects the skin. This is another belief of many people. Please note that no amount of swimming after getting tanned saves the skin. Once the skin gets tanned, it is damaged. Swimming without application of a sunscreen is very bad because water reflects more UV radiation. The radiation near the beach is more than on the ground away from beach.

Skin that is tanned is in danger. Protect your life by avoiding all types of tanning. Use tanning cosmetics to get artificial color if you want, but dont damage your skin with tan. Tanning beds, sun lamps and sun all are bad for skin.

Preventing Age Spots

Getting older doesn't necessarily cause age spots. Too much exposure to the ultraviolet rays of the sun is more likely to cause these unattractive blotches, than maturity. This is why age spots are also called sun spots. Other factors that make you more susceptible to age spots (no matter what your age is) are smoking, a diet high in refined sugars and fats, a lack of vitamins, and over consumption of poor quality saturated oils. Age spots occur when our skin produces too much lipofuscin. Lipofuscinis is a dark substance that colors our skin pigment. Unsightly age spots can begin appearing as early as the late twenties but are most common after the age 55 (thus the name.)

Age spots are also known as liver spots. Other nicknames for age spots are brown spots, lentigo and sun spots. The name sun spot nickname of course comes from the fact that the skin darkens as the result of too much frolicking outside in the summer.

As is the case with most skin conditions age spots are much simpler to prevent than to cure. Your diet has a lot to do with reducing your chances of developing this unsightly condition. Eating a diet rich in orange vegetables (carrot and yams) and green leafy vegetables (collard greens and watercress) may help reduce your chances of developing these spots as you age. These foods are rich in antioxidants that help fight off damaging free radicals that are created as the result of too much exposure to the sun. They are also foods that are rich in Vitamin A and carotene, which also helps keep your skin in tiptop condition and more resistant to ultraviolet rays.

If you already have already developed age spots the good news is that there are some ways to diminish the way they look. There are several products on the market today that can fade them so they are less noticeable. The active ingredient in these over the counter products that is a chemical called hydroquinone. Hydroquinone is a mild bleaching agent that helps lighten the appearance of all kinds of dark skin discolorations including age spots, scars and freckles. Some prescription versions of this scream also contain topical vitamin A, which can also help fade the look of obnoxious age spots.

If your age spots are particularly unattractive or forming in an undesirable place where they are too obvious (such as on the face) there are some slightly more invasive ways to cosmetically treat the problem. One of the most popular cosmetic treatments for age spots is a chemical peel. These peels contain anywhere from 70% to 80 % glycolic acid and remove layers of skin to reduce the appearance of the spots.

Yet another option is laser resurfacing. In this procedure the age spots are literally burned away using a sophisticated, targeted laser. However this treatment only works well on very white skin with very dark age spots. This is because laser treatments need a contrast of colors (black on white) to do their job well. Darker age spots on dark skin do not respond well at all to these treatments. If the age spot is lighter, purple or an odd color laser resurfacing may also not succeed in removing it. Black or dark brown age spots on fair skin respond the best to this treatment.

Although most age spots are harmless blotches, the early stages of skin cancer can masquerade as innocent looking dark spots. Your physician or a dermatologist should check any spot that enlarges, thickens, changes color, itches or bleeds. Irregularly shaped dark spots that change in color or increase in size could be the early warning sign of serious skin cancers.

One cost effective and natural way to reduce age spots is to simply keep out of the sun and wear long sleeved shirts. You should always take precautions to protect all of your exposed skin if you know you are going to be in a place where there is likely to be a lot of ultraviolet light. Make sure that you always wear sunscreen when you are out during a sunny day. Limiting your intake of alcohol can also discourage a propensity towards developing the unattractive skin discolorations.

Things to know about contact lenses

Contact lenses are optical accessories which are placed directly on the cornea. They are similar to glasses because the task they have is the same: to provide better vision. There is a difference however: a contact lens is a lot more comfortable than the classical glasses and provides a more natural vision.

Like spectacles, contact lenses are devices which help those with eye affections to see better; but instead of having to wear those uncomfortable objects on your nose and ears all day long you just wear a contact lens instead and everythings better. This way you eliminate one of the glasses biggest inconveniences like distortion (caused by side vision and eye-lens distance). The eye-lens distance causes the objects to look smaller or bigger, depending on the eye problem the wearer has. The peripheral sight is blocked by the frame of the eyeglasses, because you are outside the perimeter of the lens, but this problem can be history because the contact lens covers the entire eye and there is no eye-lens distance. Another plus for the contact lenses is that they are resistant to fogging, so you will be able to wear them even on a rainy day without having any problems, your eye-sight being perfect.

There is also another difference between lenses and glasses, not a medical difference or a utilitarian difference, but a personal one. There is a huge difference when you look in someones eyes through a piece of glass and when you look through a contact lens. When you look through that piece of glass you feel like something stands between the two of you, but when youre looking through a contact lens its just like looking in the eyes of a person who doesnt wear spectacles. So, if you care for your personal image and private life you should get contacts. There are other persons who should wear contact lenses instead of glasses: sports persons, riders, acrobats because the only thing a pair of glasses will do when they are in the middle of a physical activity is bother them. Even if a person prefers wearing glasses, one should wear lenses when being in the middle of some soliciting activity and swap them with glasses in the spare time.

Basically there are two kinds of contact lenses: the soft contact lenses and the rigid gas permeable contact lenses. Both types of lenses can be used to correct any type of vision problem. The soft lenses are easier to wear and a lot more comfortable. The rigid gas permeable lenses are recommended only for constant wear over a long period of time. This is the reason why most people who use and have used contact lenses, approximately 80%, tend to choose the soft ones.

If youre thinking about getting contact lenses you should first check with your ophthalmologist. You should tell the ophthalmologist that you intend to use contact lenses instead of glasses so he can inspect you properly and pay attention to some other details as well. There are some ophthalmologists that dont recommend contacts unless you ask for a pair.

After you get your contact lens you should be aware of some rules and follow some advices to keep your lens in good shape for the maximum effect. First of all you should get the lenses that the doctors say fit your eyes best and no cheap imitations. Before you put on a contact lens you should clean it. This has to be done every time using the special solution you bought together with the items. When youre not wearing the lens, they should be kept in that solution. Never use the same solution twice. If you have soft lenses you should never let the contact lens dry because that will permanently damage it and youll have to throw it away. The doctors say that if you have a cold its not advised to wear contacts because you can get the germs in your eyes easier. If you are a woman, you should put the make-up on after youve put the contact lenses into place. You shouldnt wear contacts in a dusty or smoky room because the lenses gather every tiny particle. The effect will be an unpleasant one making your eyes feel uncomfortable and irritated. As a result you will have to take them off. A golden rule is not to sleep with your contacts on because when you wake up your eyes will hurt terribly. During night time, the contact lens blocks the oxygen flow to the eye. There are some lenses which make an exception, like Acuvue contact lenses which are designed for continuous use, but, unless you have lens specially designed for night time use, you will have to take them off.

Acuvue contact lenses are said to be some of the best contacts ever made. At the origin they are soft lenses, but they are designed for continuous use, meaning they can be worn day and night without any cleaning or taking off. The Acuvue contact lenses are designed to be worn only for eye color change also. Another purpose of the contact lenses is not related to any medical fact as there is a special type used only to change the pigment of the eyes. So, if you have brown eyes and youve always liked green eyes, it is now possible to make the change. Acuvue contact lenses are the best in this area too. If you like having a certain color all the time, you can get the coloring continuously wear lenses.

So if youre thinking of getting contact lenses you should check with your ophthalmologist first and then go out and buy the perfect ones. You should be mentally prepared because its a whole different experience when wearing contacts than when wearing spectacles.

A few things about contact lenses

Nowadays, it is estimated that more than 100 million people around the world wear contact lenses. These items are very popular and technology improves them daily making them even more desirable.

Why do people wear contact lenses?

There are people who wear contact lenses, instead of glasses, for esthetical reasons. They like themselves better with contact lenses than with glasses. Another reason that determines people to wear contact lenses is the cosmetic one. There is a great variety of decorative contact lenses that can change the eyes appearance. And there are those who appreciate their practical side. They cannot play certain sports with glasses; they use devices that are incompatible with glasses etc. There is that category of people who are forced to wear contact lenses for therapeutic reasons. In their case, the contact lens is not an option. The contact lens can be a bandage in the healing process of different diseases or injuries of the cornea and it is a luxury that heals. There is also a combination between the two reasons - colour lenses with correction power which actually please a lot of persons.

The first contact lenses ever made were developed out of glass. After that, new types appeared, as the ones made of Plexiglas and the rigid gas permeable ones, but, nowadays, the soft contact lens is the most appreciated. Modern materials include silicon hydrogel or other plastic polymers like etalficon A, galyficon A, senofilcon A (used in the fabrication of Acuvue contact lenses). Rigid gas permeable contact lenses are recommended to the persons with dry eyes as these lenses contain no water that could evaporate during the wearing.

If you decide to wear contact lenses, you first have to go to an ophthalmologist, no matter what your reason may be. The doctor will be the one to decide which type of contact lenses fit your eyes best. Different factors will be considered for the prescription of a certain contact lens: the material (the silicon hydrogel is one of the newest discoveries in the field), the wearing time (daily wear, extended wear or continuous wear), the shape (spherical, toric or multifocal) and many more. Depending of the material, the contact lens can be either rigid or soft. The rigid one can be gas-tight or gas-permeable, but the soft one is always gas-permeable. There can also be a further classification made on the moisture content, on the amount of water in the contact lens.

The wearing time

A daily contact lens is safer as the risk of infection is lower than at the long term contact lens. This type does not require cleaning, being single-use only. It is sterile. And it even keeps you away from spending money on cleaning or storage solutions. On the other hand, the extended wear type of contact lenses allows people to easily wear contacts for a longer period while allowing oxygenation (they usually have a high oxygen permeability rate). Some people prefer them as their convenience is obvious, but the risk of infection is higher than at the daily type of contact lenses due to the bacterial stagnation, dust accumulation and so on.

One of the most popular contact lenses brand in the world is Acuvue, produced by Johnson & Johnsons subsidiary Vistakon Company. They provide both vision and esthetical contact lenses. They design disposable lenses, making types that are to be replaced every two weeks (Acuvue, Acuvue 2, Acuvue 2 Colors, Acuvue Advanced and Acuvue Oasys) or less (1-Day Acuvue). Theyve also started making extended wear lenses.

Where to buy them from

Contact lens quality is very important. Low-quality contact lenses can damage the eye, causing irritations or hurting the eyelid or the cornea. Attention must be paid to the way the lenses are worn, kept and cleaned because, even if they are high-quality, they present different risks. So, the contact lenses must be bought from specialised stores after consulting a doctor. Places where these items are available can be found anywhere as the contact lenses are very popular. Another tendency is to acquire them from an on-line store. This method can even be less expensive and still offer the same quality. You just need the prescription. But be careful and only choose reputable stores. Your health is at stake.

Anti-Aging Products versus the Benefits of a Healthy Lifestyle

On one hand, we have cosmetic companies and plastic surgeons telling us that we need to buy creams, have ourselves injected with botox or collagen; get nips, tucks, and lifts; brave the possible dangers of hormone replacement therapy and pray for a miracle.

On the other hand, the natural health approach advocates awareness of diet and exercise, the value of antioxidants, a change in pace, and a healthy-mind-equals-healthy-body attitude.

If we followed every skin, exercise, and diet regime thats been recommended by countless experts wed never leave the house. That having been said, none of us want to die even a millisecond earlier than absolutely necessary and the benefits of longevity dont need to be spelled out.

So what do we do?

Anti-Aging -- the Scientific Approach

Mankind has made an incredible medical discovery

We can make rats live longer!

Are you stunned? If youre a pest exterminator, youre probably overjoyed.

Seriously, though, a study on the longevity of rats -- and how to increase it -- has yielded interesting results.

Scientists from the University of Floridas Institute on Aging have discovered that a simple 8% reduction in calories and a moderate amount of exercise can slow down -- and even reverse -- the effects of aging in rats.

Its believed (and is well on the way to being proven) that cell death and aging-related damage to organs are caused by certain unstable molecules, cellular oxidation and inflammation.

A calorie controlled diet reduces the inflammation and therefore inhibits the death of cells.

For science, the biggest challenge is finding out why we age in the first place. Its now thought that aging may to some extent be caused by an aging cells inability to replicate, which is a phenomenon known as replicative senescence. As cells lose their ability to replicate (generally after between 60 and 90 replications), the bodys immune system is weakened, wounds are slower to heal, and wrinkles start to form.

Anti-aging medication -- the sort that your doctor will prescribe -- is very limited. The most well-known medical anti-aging remedy is hormone replacement therapy (HRT). While there are good arguments for and against HRT, the simple fact is that we dont really know enough about this treatment to categorically say thats effective, let alone safe.

Anti-Aging Cosmetics

While scientists are struggling to explain the aging process, cosmetic companies are going to all sorts of lengths to fight it. There are countless creams and serums, beauty regimes and wrinkle remedies on the market today.

Cosmetic remedies such as skin creams should probably not be labelled as anti-aging. While they may slow -- and even sometimes reverse -- the visible signs of aging, they dont contribute in any way to a persons longevity.

You may look better in your coffin, but, under the skin, your body will have deteriorated much the same way as that of someone who has never seen the inside of a beauty salon.

This is not to say that cosmetics have no place in the fight against aging. Theres nothing wrong with having beautiful skin well into your twilight years; it just needs to be recognised that any cosmetic regime must be combined with other anti-aging practices to be truly beneficial.

Living Longer Naturally -- the Healthy Lifestyle Approach

You may have heard the expression that age is a state of mind. In many ways we can see this to be true. We all know people who should be in the peak of life but, due to circumstance or attitude, lead the life of someone much older.

Conversely, we also know elderly people that could give the average 40-year-old a run for their money. Why is this?

If you watch people that still seem to have boundless energy as they age, you will probably notice that those people are very active, and approach everything -- even simple day to day things -- with a positive attitude.

The more that you remind yourself of your age, the older you will feel. If you constantly focus on negatives then your health will be negatively impacted. Its simple common sense: we all know that laughing makes us feel better. Therefore its logical that spending much of our time in a dissatisfied or depressive state would have a negative impact on our health and wellbeing.

Really, it all comes back to healthy mind, healthy body. And it works both ways.

For example, its a scientific fact that plenty of daylight and sunshine helps to ward of depression. Exercise releases endorphins that make us feel good. Eating well gives us energy and bolsters our immune system.

One important factor of a healthy lifestyle, especially with regard to anti-aging, is the minimisation of stress. There are countless negative side effects of too much stress in our lives, so anything that you can do to alleviate stress is beneficial. Go for quiet walks, surround yourself with positive people, meditate, and make sure that you have some time to yourself occasionally.

Learn to say no - you cant be all things to all people.

Lastly, a diet consisting of lots of fresh fruits and veggies is invaluable. The body thrives on all things raw and vital. Grains and nuts are also full of necessary protein, and sprouts such as wheatgrass are the ultimate mineral supplement when juiced. Buy yourself a good cold press juicer, such as the Greenpower Kempo, and make your own fresh fruit juices.

Pure water is also important. Our bodies are 70% water so it makes sense to drink the purest water possible. Dehydration also has a negative impact on energy, so if youre tired you may want to try drinking lots of water.

The fact is that, at this stage, we arent really sure why the human body ages. Until we have a better grip on the process of aging we wont be able to combat it effectively.

Despite this, chances are that, if we lead a healthy lifestyle and occasionally indulge in anti-aging products such as cosmetics, we have a reasonable chance of aging gracefully.

Budda had the right idea when he said: Your body is precious. It is our vehicle for awakening. Treat it with care. So far, even science cant beat that advice.

Skin - Excess Sweating Treatments With Antiperspirants

If you sweat excessively, you have got many treatment options. They include use of antiperspirants, Iontophoresis, Botox injections, surgery and other medications. Out of these antiperspirants are the first lines of treatment because they are noninvasive. Let us learn more about how to use antiperspirants to get good results.

Antiperspirants being applied on the surface of the skin block the sweat glands and do not allow sweat to come on the surface of the skin. Aluminum salts are the most common ingredients of antiperspirants. For different locations, your doctor may recommend different concentrations of antiperspirants. For example for hands or for feet, you may be advised to use an antiperspirant of 30% concentration of Aluminum chloride hexadhydrate while for your underarms, the strength recommended may be half of that. If you have sensitive skin, you should talk to your doctor about the choice of antiperspirants. Currently Aluminum Zirconium Tetrachlorohydrex Glycine is the ingredient that is most commonly used, as it is less irritating to the skin.

Time of application of antiperspirants is important to get the best results. it is said that if you apply antiperspirants, it is better to use them at night rather than in the morning. If you apply them at both the times, that is better. But out of morning and evening, you should choose evening.

Ideally the antiperspirant should remain on the surface of the skin for up to eight hours. The skin should be dry before you apply. For those of you who use some method to remove underarm hair such as shaving, depilatory creams, etc. you should talk to your doctor about how much time interval is ideal before antiperspirant is applied after hair removal.

Antiperspirants may have to be used everyday for sometime. Once you find that perspiration is reduced, you can consult your doctor and increase the time interval between each application. If you get irritation with your antiperspirant, please consult your doctor.

Fees for Tumescent Liposuction

Tumescent liposuction is a newer, popular procedure for fat removal. The relatively low fees associated with tumescent liposuction make it so when compared to more traditional procedures.

Fees for Tumescent Liposuction

One of the forms of surgical sculpting for fat removal is the technique of tumescent liposuction, a procedure that limits bleeding with anesthesia fluid, which is pushed into the tissues with anesthetic effects lasting for several hours. Although, this surgery is able to reduce appreciably the pain, it often is more expensive if you are not careful.

There is no "standard price" or estimate because the fee for tumescent liposuction depends on different factors such as the size and number of the areas of the body to be treated. The price of this procedure also varies from country to country, city to city and from doctor to doctor. The average fee for liposuction is nearly $1800 per area, raising an additional cost of $900 for additional zones.

When it comes to treating large areas requiring tumescent liposuction, additional fees are determined in terms of size and importance of the region to be treated. Generally, you will get an estimate after the first consultation so you can determine the affordability of the procedure.

The more fat your body has accumulated, the higher the price to get it removed by means of tumescent liposuction. Contrary to other liposculpture procedures, tumescent liposuction requires an operating room to be scheduled, general anesthesia, or localized sedation for which prices are charged additionally and determined on the extent of the procedure.

Tumescent liposuction has become the method of choice for liposuction surgery mainly because the adrenaline added in the solution limits the blood loss that is seen with traditional liposuction. There is no guarantee that secondary surgery may not be needed for any reason, but more often due to large areas being treated rather than complications because tumescent liposuction is considered safe.

In the case of undergoing a secondary surgery, which usually is more difficult, the price for tumescent liposuction increases considerably, charging 2 procedures and twice the use of the operating room, anesthesia, etc. Surgeons who perform the operation have also a remarkable fee variation given the incidentals of the surgery such as blood tests, compression surgical garments and so on.

The expense of tumescent liposuction is highly dependent upon the specific work you are having done. Speak with your plastic surgeon to understand the total fee including the incidental costs.

Cancer and Make-up: Is There A Link?

The cosmetic industry is a huge business around the world that makes billions off consumers every year. Probably each and every one of us use a number of cosmetic products such as soaps, body cleansers, moisturizers, and make-up on a daily basis. In fact, according to a 2004 study conducted by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, women use an average of 12 cosmetic products a day. When we are applying these products on and all around our bodies, were probably not thinking about the tearless shampoo we have in our hands as a possible danger to our health. Shockingly, recent studies have shown that a large percentage of common household cosmetic products that a lot of us probably have in our homes right now contain a substance that can be harmful to our health and cause cancer.

1,4-Dioxane is a petroleum-derived contaminant that is thought to be a probable human carcinogen according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. And according to the National Toxicology Program, it is a known carcinogen in animals. It is listed on Californias Proposition 65 list of chemicals that are either suspected or known to cause cancer and birth defects. 1,4-Dioxane is a byproduct that appears during the manufacturing of cosmetics. Although it can easily be taken out during the manufacturing process for pennies, it is often not. The Food and Drug Administration does not require companies to list it as an ingredient on their labels because it is produced during the manufacturing process.

Unfortunately, it doesnt end there. Jeanne Rizzo, R.N., the executive director of the Breast Cancer Fund and a founding member of The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics stated, Regrettably, 1,4-Dioxane contamination is just the tip of the icebergBecause the FDA does not require cosmetic products to be approved as safe before they are sold, companies can put unlimited amounts of toxic chemicals in cosmetics. Incredibly, the FDA has no legal authority to require safety standards on cosmetic manufacturers and has only been able to ask companies to remove the chemical on a volunteer basis.

The FDA has known about 1,4-Dioxane since 1979 and has given very mild guidelines and recommendations to manufacturers that their products should not contain greater concentrations of 1,4-Dioxane than 10 ppm, or parts per million. Even with this lenient guideline, some 15% of the products tested exceeded this limit. Some of the products that contained the highest level of 1,4-Dioxane that were tested included: Clairol Herbal Essences Rainforest Flowers Shampoo, Oil of Olay Complete Body Wash with Vitamins, Johnson and Johnsons Watermelon Explosion Kids Shampoo, Hello Kitty Bubble Bath, Disney Clean as a Bee Hair and Body Wash, and Gerber Grins and Giggles Gentle & Mild Aloe Vera Baby Shampoo.

If this is alarming to you, beware, because the list doesnt end there. Until the cosmetics industry is more regulated, consumers must exercise caution while shopping. A greater knowledge of ingredients and their effects will keep you and your families safe.

Pictures of wedding hair styles are one of the best ways to avoid bridal hair disasters. Pictures will help eliminate misunderstandings between you and your hair stylist.

Be practical. Try a style that is comfortable for dancing and moving around. Consider the wedding locations climate (humid, dry, wet, cold, too hot). Make a selection from wedding hair styles that will match with the style of your dress. Keep your desired bridal hair styles in mind when picking out accessories.

ACCESSORIES AND BRIDAL MAKEUP

Wedding Hair Accessories like hair ornaments and headpieces should not overpower your wedding hair. If you plan to wear a more elaborate headpiece, your wedding hair style should be simple. Bridal Tiaras can be very flattering.

Very simple jewelry will do for the bridesmaids. Stick with earrings, bracelets, or rings, but avoid necklaces. The entire bridal party should have one theme for the wedding hair styles and bridal party make-up. However the bridal party could all have different hair lengths, color and texture of hair.

Your bridal make-up should emphasize the eyes, lips, and skin-tone as these parts should be camera friendly at all times. Remember that bridesmaids are to compliment the bride and are not there to overshadow her.

WEDDING HAIR STYLES TYPE

It is not a bad idea to have an up-do, if your dress covers all the way to the neck. Dont be afraid of a short hair style especially if you are petite. Short hair can be one of the more sexy wedding hair styles.

It is usually better to not to request a classic hair do with a contemporary wedding dress. If you have your heart set on one of the classic wedding hair styles, then it should be a casual one.

For a modern or classic Victorian style, one of the beach wedding hair styles is better whenit is a basic chignon or down hair style with simple, loose curls. Soft curls give you a very romantic look. This goes for the bridesmaids as well. It is better that they all follow the same pattern.

The bridal party should wear the same color and style of dress as well as a similar hairstyle. For example, either all the bridesmaids should wear flowers in their hair or no one should at all.

Dont just gloss over the details of the contract. It should include important information such as the date of your wedding, the types of wedding hair styles and bridal make up services to be rendered.

7 Tips on Maintaining Acne Free Skin

Having that nasty zit is sometimes quite annoying. In fact, it is a great factor on suffering low self-esteem particularly on young people whose main focus at puberty is the physical attribute. Preventing acne breakout is not a piece of cake that is why even if you know everything about acne control, the acne still shows up every now and then. The lack of time to maintain acne free regimen daily contributes to the breakout. So how do you maintain your acne free skin? Heres how:

1. Do not prick the acne affected area. Touching it with bare hands can cause further irritation. Unclean hands carry undesirable microorganism that can cause acne. So it is rather safe to keep your hands or any other object from your face to impede the inflammation of the acne and scarring of the skin as well.

2. Avoid using oil-based products on your hair. Guys and girls wear hair products to improve their appearance. Dermatologist might agree that the products are safe on the scalp however, this chemical-laden beauty products slide down to your face as you sweat out. The fluids goes down to the acne hence aggravate the already affected area of the skin.

3. Minimize the use of cosmetics over the pimple. It is alarming to know that although beauty products can conceal your pimple break out, it increases the risk of infection. The combination of the harsh compounds on your foundation makes up and bacteria that come with the sponge (if the foundation you are using is not newly opened) exacerbate the acne. If your job requires you to wear make up, you should avoid those generic brand make up. Some generic brands of make up do not mention the harsh chemicals that are present in the product.

4. If you are using alcohol-based and oil-based facial wash or toner, taking a break will somehow minimize the inflammation of the skin.

5. Avoid getting anything that might contain microorganism to touch your face. These include your unmanaged hair, dirty handkerchief, towels and even pillow. The only way to control the transfer of organism to your face from the material of origin is to always keep your hair in a bun or use a hair band that will keep it in place away from your face, a fresh pillowcase for your cushion, and clean towel and handkerchief to wipe your face.

6. An over-the-counter ointment can be bought from your local drugstore. A topical cream or ointment containing benzoyl peroxide is your best bet to vanish that undesired acne. Some dermatologist recommends tretinoin-based products cream over the benzoyl peroxide because of irritant threat on the peroxide content. Depending on how sensitive the skin is, you can choose from the two.

7. If the acne is severe, a visit to your dermatologist is needed. The dermatologist will prescribe oral antibiotic to take at a certain period of time. Or if applies, an adapalene gel will be prescribed by the dermatologist for you to use for time duration. Close monitoring of the medication is needed since like other prescription-required medicines, it might trigger unknown allergies.

Cosmetic Dentists

Beauty might be only skin-deep. However, it is given a lot of value in certain fields such as modeling, and acting. Since everyone is not born with the same level of perfection, enhancing the best features is one way to look stunning. One such feature in the body that can be enhanced to perfection is the smile. Perfect teeth and jaw line, can bring out an attractive smile in a person. Cosmetic dentistry is a field wherein the dentists deal with a variety of procedures to enhance an individuals smile.

Cosmetic dentists usually are a couple of steps ahead of regular dentists. Cosmetic dentists must be familiar with dental implants, dentures, dental crowns, and dental bridges like regular dentists, however, unlike regular dentists, they also deal with porcelain veneers, teeth straightening, restorative dentistry, bonding techniques, teeth whitening, teeth bleaching both surgically and cosmetically. Patients can choose the kind of cosmetic treatment that interests them and consult the dentist.

Cosmetic dentists who deal with dentures and dental implants provide a permanent solution for those missing a few teeth. The price depends upon the materials used to make the implants, the laboratory used for the making of the implants, and the experience of the dentist. Most of the time, cosmetic dentists might charge a bit more than the regular dentists for these tasks. However, cosmetic dentists would be able to provide a better solution to this kind of problem in cases of multiple dental implants.

Cosmetic dentists provide some excellent treatments for straightening crooked, uneven or askew teeth. Straightening the teeth in an adult is usually done with Invisalign, an orthodontic method of treatment. This involves the patients teeth being fit individually with brackets that are made of transparent material, unlike the traditional metal ones. A few months of wearing different sets of aligners would correct the teeth gradually providing a perfect position. However, a regular visit to the orthodontist is recommended while using these aligners to ensure perfect alignment. The other method for this is to use the porcelain veneers that are a much simpler method to straighten teeth and provide a perfect smile.

Cosmetic dentists get most patients for teeth whitening. This is because perfect white teeth help produce a perfect smile. Tooth whitening is a process where the dentist bleaches the patients teeth till the natural color comes through. This can be done with cosmetic products such as BriteSmile and others that are available in the market or through surgery. Surgery is recommended only for those with strong and healthy gums and teeth and the procedure involves the bleaching agent being applied on the teeth and the ultraviolet radiation being passed through to each tooth individually.

Cosmetic dentists are expensive and can be consulted for all kinds of problems related to ones teeth and smile. Browsing online can produce a list of all the available cosmetic dentists in an area.

Types of Teeth Whitening

Whiter teeth are a staple in the health and beauty industry. Never would you see a model or celebrity with yellow or stained teeth. Let's face it, whiter teeth brings confidence. There are several ways for the average person to obtain a whiter and brighter smile, here are the most popular.

Dentist Whitening

We will start out at the priciest end of the spectrum with professional whitening in dental office. Most dentists use a Carbamide Peroxide in the form of a gel and provide customized dental trays molded by plaster casts of your teeth. These trays reduce the risk of whitening lines due to the fact they are made just for you. In contrast, most at-home-kits provide the same Carbamide Peroxide, just not the form fitting tray. Dentists charge up to $600 for this treatment, mainly to cover time and office costs.

At Home Whitening Gels

For a much cheaper price, we are able to obtain whiter teeth in the comfort of our own home by using at-home-kits. Most of these kits contain the same strength Carbamide Peroxide formula as your dentist or possibly a more powerful formula. Another benefit of at home whitening is the price. You're not paying a dentist or his employees, so you will find yourself paying hundreds less than you would at a dental office. Some quality kits can go as low as $39! The only real downside of an at home kit is the quality of the dental tray as it's typically a boil and bite mouthpiece. You may find these a little less comfortable than their dentistry counterpart.

Whitening Strips

The results from whitening strips are usually less than desired. Major brands and off-brands have been known to disappoint, showing a mild effect over the course of a month. The problem is that most pharmaceutical backed companies are looking for a way to make a reoccurring profit from it's consumers. Thus keeping a weaker product on the shelves keep you coming back until desired results are acquired. In some cases this could be months or years.

Whitening Toothpastes

Whitening toothpastes seem to have little or no effectiveness. I myself recently tested a popular toothpaste brand, known for it's supposed whitening power. I realized that at most, one line of past could only contain a mild active ingredient and you would have to brush your teeth for an hour for any noticeable result over a period of a month. Whitening toothpastes seem to be a marketing ploy that sells more from us being so eager for improvement.

In conclusion, the real contenders here are Dental and At home Whitening Kits. They will provide you with your desired results in the shortest amount of time. Saying that, at home whitening kits allow you to save hundreds of dollars and the peace and quiet of your own home... and no eerie dentist offices.

Not Born Blonde? Tips On How To Lighten Your Hair

Lightening your hair can be a great way to change our look and reflect a different outlook. Or bring in the summer, or herald a new job or period in your life. If you can't afford to go to a salon, try these tips on how to lighten your hair to avoid brassy and badly damaged hair.

* When doing regrowth, don't apply all the hair color to all of your head. Follow the instructions on the packet, which always say to apply color first to the roots, for a specified period of time. Then, apply the lightener to the rest of your hair. If you don't do this, you will end up effectively dissolving the ends of your hair. And even the parts of the hair shaft that don't quite get to that stage will be severely weakened and quite likely to break off very easily.

You may need a friend to help you lighten your hair, but at least the extra effort will mean you have a better looking color, and better hair condition.

* Use a brush and section the hair. Its much easier to apply the lightener evenly this way. Use clips to keep the rest of your hair out of the way whilst you work on each section.

* Hair needs to be in reasonably good condition to take peroxide based lighteners, especially if you are going for a look that is a lot lighter than your natural or base hair color. Use protein treatments to strengthen your hair first, if its not in good condition. Or go for a few highlights to complement your cut instead. And remember to use intensive moisturizing treatments afterwards, as well. You can alternate the two every week for a few weeks. Then, if your hair no longer needs strengthening, stop using the protein treatment. You will most likely need to use the moisture treatment still, though.

* If you want a sun kissed look - go for a color that is only 1 or 2 shades lighter than your natural hair color. Get a friend to help you, and 'weave' the highlights through your hair. The trick is not to have the color looking too chunky. You could try going for a weave effect by mimicking the way a loom moves through a rug when it is made.

Using the end of a long comb or hair coloring brush, move it over and under a section of hair, picking out the hair that is left on the top of the handle. Then, with a piece of aluminum foil handy, put the hair on the foil and apply the hair lightener. This is what hairdressers do to get a subtle and blended effect.

* If you want to go quite a lot lighter than your natural or base shade, you may need to do it gradually. Dark hair can be difficult to lighten, at least if you want to keep any sort of condition and length to your style. So you may need to compromise first and go for more of a caramel color, and then go through a process of using protein and moisture treatments weekly for a month to strengthen your hair again.

When applying lightener the first time, follow the instructions on the packet, and test your hair at regular intervals. You'll need to test both for color and condition. Rub the ends of part of your hair to see how light it is getting, and also to see whether it disintegrates at all. If it starts to disintegrate or break off, you'll need to wash out the hair lightener, no matter how many gold or orange tones are left. This is where a semi permanent caramel color will come in. Apply this all over your hair once you've washed out the peroxide based lightener. Then use two treatments every week, a protein and a moisture treatment, for about a month.

Then you can try again. But be careful when doing your regrowth. Follow the instructions for applying color to regrowth otherwise you will severely damage your hair.

Don't sacrifice too much hair condition for lighter hair. Work with your hair so you end up looking a million dollars, instead of ten!

Plastic Surgery Where Will It Occur

As you evaluate the best plastic surgeon option for your treatment, you might be surprised to learn the location of your surgery should be part of your determination.

Plastic Surgery Where Will It Occur

The question of the location of your surgery probably never even occurred to you when you started thinking about having plastic surgery. If you are having plastic surgery, it must be done in a hospital, right? Actually, there are a wide variety of options and you need to understand them before making plastic surgeon evaluations. Much of the decision making process will depend on your comfort level with surgical procedures.

There are three options when it comes to the location of your surgery. The first is the traditional hospital setting. The second is a surgical center. The third is actually in the office of the surgeon. By far, the largest percentage of plastic surgery procedures occur in the offices of the surgeon.

Having your surgery done in a hospital is an excellent choice. First, it means your surgeon has hospital privileges, which means the hospital has evaluated the surgeon and found them to have a level of competency the hospital is comfortable with. Second, the hospital surgical process is highly regulated by government, which means you are going to get optimal care before, during and after the procedure.

A surgical center is a facility set up to handle a variety of surgical procedures. Hospitals only have so much space and there is rarely enough time available to handle all the surgeries scheduled in your city or town. The surgical center fills this gap. Much like a hospital, it is heavily regulated and the care is very good. To collect fees, the center must be certified by various government agencies, and the government agencies are sticklers for details like safety. Having your surgery in a surgical center is not indicative of any negative factor.

Many surgeons have surgical facilities built into their offices. Since they are expensive, you will usually find these facilities when there is a group of doctors providing surgical procedures. While there is nothing inherently wrong with this approach, you need to pay close attention to certifications.

Has the facility been certified by an independent group for safety and emergency procedures? The question is not so much whether it is safe for the surgical procedure you are undergoing, but whether the facility is equipped to handle any unexpected problems. Surgery is an invasion of the body and carries inherent risks. It is important that certifications for things such as life support be held by the office and by the nurses.

Having surgery in an office facility is very common and has its benefits. The office option is almost always cheaper than hospitalization or a surgical center. Still, we are talking about your body, so make sure to view the facility, ask for certifications and meet with the nurses. If you are not comfortable with any aspect of the facility, you are better off going with a surgeon who has hospital privileges or using a surgical center.

There are a lot of factors to consider. Make sure you dont leave out the issue of the location of the actual procedure.
