Types of Cosmetics

Make-up and cosmetics are used all over the world by all kinds of different people. Cosmetic products are defined as, a substance or preparation intended for placement in contact with any external part of the human body. This definition can include a variety of products.

Shampoos and soaps are products that usually contain some kind of fragrance and clean the skin by the use of surface-active agents, or surfactants. These surfactants are molecules that have both lipophilic and hydrophilic, or fat soluble and water soluble parts. The fat soluble part of the product clings to the oil and dirt as the water soluble part allows the lipophilic part to be washed away. Detergents for dishes and clothes work in pretty much the same way but will have different ingredients that make them more harsh for use on hard, solid surfaces. It is usually not a good idea to try and use these detergents on the body and hair, for it can lead to irritation.

Lipstick is another cosmetic product that contains hydrophilic properties. They are manufactured by combining wax, a non-volatile oil such as beeswax with castor oil, and water. The combination produces a thick substance that is water-insoluble and spreads easily on the lips. Because of its lipophilic properties, lipstick wont dissolve on the lips when exposed to saliva or liquid from drinks. Other lipsticks will have a dye in them that react to amino acids on the top layer of the skin. This makes the the product appear blue or green in the container and change to red when applied to the lips.

When water is lost on the top layer of dead skin cells faster than the living cells under them can absorb the moisture our skin becomes dry. This is when we need the help of a moisturizer. When the skin becomes dry and scaly, moisturizers can assist by preventing further water loss, known as occlusion, and by adding humectants, substances that increase the hydrophilic properties of the skin. Humectant moisturizers contain substances such as alpha hydroxy acids or glycerine and add moisture to the top layer of skin while occlusive moisturizers form a waterproof layer over the skin that reduces moisture and allows the bodys natural rehydration process to return the layer to a normal level.

Recovery After Liposuction, Tummy Tuck, or Breast Augmentation Plastic Surgery Procedures

One of the most important concerns of Beverly Hills and Los Angeles men and women who are considering plastic surgery procedures such as liposuction, tummy tuck, or breast augmentation is the extent of recovery time after cosmetic surgery. With our hectic lives, busy work schedule, and never ending family responsibilities, men and women want to know:
1.When can they go back to work?
2.When can they go back to the Gym?
3.How soon can they care for their small children?
4.How bad is the pain from surgery?
5.When can they drive?
6.How soon can they travel?
7.How soon can they have sex?
8.How soon can they wear certain types of cloths?
The answer to these important questions about plastic surgery recovery depends on the type of surgery, the involved body parts, multiplicity of the procedures, family support structure, and the extent of work or home responsibilities.
In the following section, Dr. Younai describes the approximate recovery course and restrictions for a variety of plastic surgery procedures, for patients in southern California, including those from Beverly Hills and Los Angeles.
Recovery after liposuction: Tumescent, laser, ultrasonic.
Liposuction is a relatively easy procedure to recover from, mainly because there are no large incisions, and the surgery is superficial. Liposuction can be performed on the neck/face, arms, chest, breasts, abdomen, back, buttocks, thighs, knees, calves, and ankles. The pain and recovery time of liposuction is similar to that of a bad muscle bruise sustained during a motor vehicle accident. Most patients take a week or less of recovery before returning to work after liposuction. There are no restrictions with respect to exercise and you may return to your exercise routine as you feel comfortable. Likewise, there are no restrictions with lifting, pushing, pulling or taking care of young children; although, most people can not do strenuous house work for about 4 days. Most patients are able to drive within a week; however this also depends on the areas of liposuction. For example, it is harder to steer if you had liposuction of the arms. When it comes to sex there is no restrictions as long a you are comfortable!
Especially in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles, most patients are eager to know when they can wear that especial outfit for that special party or event. After liposuction you will be wearing a girdle for about six weeks. Despite this, most of your regular cloths should fit comfortably over it. After the first three weeks, if you are planning to wear revealing cloths or dresses, you dont have to wear your girdle during that time. Finally, there are no travel restrictions.
Recovery after Tummy Tuck, Abdominoplasty, Body Lift, or Belt Lipectomy,
Tummy tuck, abdominoplasty, or body lift, involves removing the hanging abdominal skin fold, along with tightening the abdominal muscles. The pain and recover of a tummy tuck is similar to that of a c-section or hysterectomy. Most women in Los Angeles or Beverly Hills take about two weeks for recovery before returning to work. Because of tightening of the abdominal muscles patients can not do any heavy lifting or straining at home, work, or the Gym for about eight weeks. You can do power walking or bicycling in 2-3 weeks. You can also have sex in 2-3 weeks as long as you dont strain your abdominal muscles for 6-8 weeks. Most cloths or pants will be somewhat tight around the waist for about 4-6 weeks due to the normal post-operative swelling. There are no travel restrictions as long as you dont use a public pool or Jacuzzi for three weeks.
Recovery after Breast Augmentation with implants
Breast augmentation is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures performed in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles. Breast enlargement involves insertion of a Saline or Silicone Breast Implant under the Pectoralis chest muscle. The pain associated with breast augmentation is due to the stretching of the Pectoralis muscle by the underlying breast implant. Most women describe heavy pressure over their chests. Because of this moving the arms, especially above the shoulders is uncomfortable for two weeks. Most women take off one week from work after breast augmentation. You can do lower body exercises in one week and should refrain from lifting heavy objects for the first 2-3 weeks. Likewise, I dont recommend driving for one week. You may have sex at any time as long that your breasts dont get manipulated for the first 5 weeks. There are no travel restrictions as long as you dont get your breasts wet in a public pool or a Jacuzzi for 4 weeks.
Usually, augmentopexy, or breast lift plus augmentation, is more painful than just breast augmentation, and the recover is the same.
During your consultation, Dr. Younai will review your treatment options for plastic surgery procedures, including the pros and cons of each technique, potential risks and complications, recovery course, pre- and post-operative instructions, and esthetic outcomes. There are also many before and after pictures and high resolution images of these procedures available in our photo gallery (www.beautifulfigure.com )

Hand In Hand: Hollywood Stars and Cosmetic Surgery

Many of Hollywoods biggest stars have had more than their fair share of cosmetic surgery. Many are quiet about it, not letting such information slip out to the public, but others are very open. While Cher may have really been the Hollywood poster child for cosmetic and plastic surgery, she is a more extreme example. Recently it seems to be Sharon Osbourne, wife of rock and roll legend Ozzie Osbourne, who is a poster child for cosmetic surgery, and unlike other stars, she is very open about it.

Sharon Osbourne has admitted that shes blown more than half a million dollars on cosmetic surgery over her lifetime. The procedures range from trimming off extra skin to installing Barbie-sized fake boobs. Tucks, lifts, you name it, she has probably had some experience with it. When asked why she would take so much cosmetic surgery, Sharon was very straight forward in her response. Sharon Osbourne says she always dreamed of having surgery to improve her looks, because she was sick and tired of fans thinking she was Ozzie's mother. Because of this apparently common misperception, the fifty-three year old was paranoid that she wasn't good looking enough to grace the rocker's arm, and longed to be lusted after.

Sharon comments on additional background about why she wanted so much cosmetic treatments. "I was never a good looking woman. The need to be desired even once in a while led to an insecurity, and as the wife of a world renowned rock star, the Ozzies mom, comments certainly did not help matters. A large part of her decision was also based on a desire to please her husband more. Sharon comments that after the surgery she felt for attractive for Ozzie, and in her mind was more like the person he deserved.

She struggled with weight problems, but wealthbuilding.co.za">credits a 1999 stomach banding procedure that helped her to lower her weight dramatically. She then invested in further surgery including a tummy tuck, liposuction, facelift and two boob jobs. Each time her appearance shifted, but many cosmetic surgeons have commented on how they like Sharon Osbourne as an example of cosmetic surgery, because she improves the way she appears, but does not change it. In other words, shes trying to be an improved model of herself, not a new person, and that is what someone considering cosmetic surgery should look at.

Anti - wrinkle eye cream

Anti wrinkle eye cream contains ingredients that provide extra moisture to your skin. This helps in diminishing darkness from the skin and makes it look more firm. Many anti wrinkle eye creams contain vitamins A and D. These are the vitamins that are lost when skin is exposed to sun rays for longer durations.

Anti wrinkle eye cream come in different potencies and times of application. The creams can be classifieds based on their time of application.

Day Creams : Day creams work on puffiness and dark circles.
Night Creams : Night creams usually contain Alpha hydroxy acid and/or retinol. It is used to protect against damage to skin.
General Creams : The primary purpose of these creams is to provide moisture to skin.

What is the cause of wrinkles? Due the gravitational force, the tissues of our body are pulled down. This phenomenon is helped by the loss of moisture in our skin. Loss of moisture results in collagen breakdown and the free radical damage over a period of time. This results in sagging of the skin, marking thin and deeper lines. Anti wrinkle eye creams work to prevent the easing factors by providing extra moisture daily, reducing collagen damage, and free radical activity with anti-oxidants.

Does anti-wrinkle cream work? Creams are local applications and effects produced an veer off after some time. We need to catch the root cause of wrinkle and act on them. The onus is on everyone to try on their own and check the results over time. Many women think about it far too late and for creams and lotions to have any protective effect you need to start the treatment at the right time. A good diet and active life style are the best ways to take care of wrinkles especially water, vitamin c, anti-oxidants from vegetables, etc.

Oily Skin- Why Some Of Us Have Oily Skin?

Oily Skin- A Trouble?

Oily skin is a big trouble for many of us. Why our skin oozes more oils than others is a big mystery for the sufferers. The skin attracts more dirt and is more prone to acne. it has shining look and causes all types of cosmetic problems. Why do we have that kind of skin? Can we do something to eliminate this problem forever? Let us find out.

Skin- Why Does It Produce Oils?

Our skin produces sebum. This sebum is mainly made of lipids. The sebum protects us from microbial infections and keeps our skin moist. Along with sebum, we also produce sweat. Our skin also sheds dead skin cells. All these combine and form a layer on the skin. Those who have oily skin, produce more of sebum. Hormones mainly activate the sebum production and some of us are genetically conditioned to produce more oils. You should talk with your doctor if anything can be done with the hormones.

Oily Skin Management-

To manage oily skin the only common way is to use oil free products. Wash your face at least twice a day with soap. Use oil absorbing blotting papers. Use more of powder products. Astringents will remove lot of oil and so do the toners. Look after your oily skin because you will get fewer wrinkles than those who have dry skin. They will envy you after some years.

Collagen and Fat Injections for Smoother Skin

Most surgical procedures, such as chemical peels and laser resurfacing are meant to remove the outer layers of skin, forcing new collagen growth which eventually fills in the wrinkles. The opposite approach is to fill in the wrinkles with an injectable substance such as collagen or fat. This fills in the defects giving the skin a smoother appearance.

The most common filler is bovine collagen. Since there is a risk of allergic reactions, a skin test is required before its use. There are now bioengineered collagen products that are non-allergic and do not require a skin test, as well as synthetic fillers. Another choice is a transplant of your own collagen or even fat removed by a mini-liposuction procedure just before injection.

Usually you will receive a local anesthetic and the collagen product will be injected directly under the surface of the skin. There may be some bruising or swelling in the treated areas.

The collagen injection restores the skins natural collagen and you skin will look younger as it fills out.

Just like your own natural collagen, injected collagen will eventually start to break down and need to be replaced. You might have to repeat the treatment several times a year. However, injected fat tends to last a lot longer and the results may be permanent, especially if it was injected into other areas in the face containing fat.

According to a report issued by the Harvard Medical School, a new product is being developed that is designed to produce new collagen as needed. Called Isolagen, it uses a sample of your own skin to clone fibroblasts, the cells that produce collagen. Since this is a new procedure, its long term effects are still unknown.

Anyone who watches movies or TV knows the results of overdoing these types of procedures. Many famous actresses wound up with lips reminiscent of Bozo the Clown from overzealous collagen injections. Make sure you use a doctor experienced in this procedure and be frank with him on the results you expect to receive.

When properly done the results should be undetectable and natural looking, giving you another weapon against wrinkles and creases in your face.

This article is for informational purposes only. It does not purport to offer medical advice. Consult a qualified physician if you are interested in any of these procedures.

Do-It-Yourself Facial Skin Care

In a world of tight schedules, harmful pollution, high anxiety and mounting tension, your skin takes the toil, and it shows! Yet, all is not lost. With a little commitment to smooth, clear and attractive skin, you can maintain the natural beauty of your skin at home! Keep reading to get tips and simple at-home methods to maintain youthful skin and fight the signs of aging.

It is absolutely certain that beautiful skin cannot last without proper care. The adverse affects of the world we live in have the potential of making skin look old and tired even during the prime of youth. Therefore, it is essential to regularly and thoroughly clean your skin so as to keep it glowing with vitality. Besides cleansing and facials, massaging the skin regularly and properly will greatly reduce the appearance of wrinkles and tighten your skin.

Cleaning your Skin
The first step in caring for your skin externally is to clean it properly. Perspiration, grease, dust, stale make-up, dirt and bacteria all collect on your skin and must be removed completely. Use cleansing cream, milk or lotion or just plain cold cream to clean your skin. Apply the cream on your face and neck and gently massage it in. Rub the cream on your face and neck in circular and upward motion for at least five minutes (duration also depends on the instructions provided with the cream you are using). Remove excessive cream with tissue, damp cotton wool or a small damp towel.

Next, tone your skin using skin freshener (mild), skin tonic (medium strength) or an astringent lotion (strong). Toning is important as it removes any remaining greasiness on your skin after the cleansing process is complete. It closes pores, refines the skin, and if you intend to use make up, it leaves a smooth clean texture which will hold foundation and powder much longer.

Nourishing your skin is an essential part of any beauty routine. Dirt, dust, hot and cold weather, cosmetics and even sunlight all tend to dry out the skin, robbing it of moisture and oil. Skin foods attempt to replenish nourishment to give skin its natural healthiness. It is not necessary to use a thick, heavy skin cream every night. If you do not like a greasy face when going to bed, simply choose a light, easy to absorb moisturizer which will disappear in minutes. Many of the newer liquid moisturizers fall into this category.

Facial
A facial is the quickest way of cleaning, reviving and refining faded skin, leaving the skin light, soft and glowing. A facial also does a thorough job of relaxing jangled nerves so that you emerge not only looking younger but also feeling fresher and more relaxed. A facial once every fortnight will ensure youthful and fresh skin for a long time.

The most luxurious way of getting a facial is to go to a beauty salon and sit back while experts do their job. If you do not have the time or cannot afford the luxury of regular salon treatments, you can give yourself a facial at home. Choose a time when you can be undisturbed and quiet. Get everything ready before you start so that you can relax and enjoy it. Follow the routine below for a quick home-facial:

Tie your hair away from the face and neck and use a headband to pull hair away youre your forehead.

Cleanse your face and neck with cleansing milk and wipe off first with a facial tissue and then with a wet towel.

Apply cream all over the face and blend it thoroughly - then massage your face and neck in an upward direction.

Prepare a face-pack suited to your skin type and on a thoroughly clean face, spread a fairly thick layer avoiding the area of the mouth and a large circle round the eyes. Then lie on your back and keep the mask on for 15 to 20 minutes or till dry. Do not talk while the mask is on your face.

When it is dry, wash your face and neck with cold water, keeping your eyes closed. Dry your skin and apply skin tonic.

If you have an important date, use skin tonic after the facial, then apply moisturizer and make up.

Massaging your Skin
Massaging your face is essential for youthful looking skin especially for the 40 and above. An effective way to counter wrinkles, massaging is a slow process and its results are obvious only if it is continued for a period of time. It is not a magic potion which can bring a change overnight and one has to be patient with it. However, there is no doubt that massage reduces unattractive fleshiness, tightens facial tissues and muscles and increases blood circulation.

Once you have lines and wrinkles, you can only get rid of them by plastic surgery. Massage and facial exercises can help prevent new lines from forming but cannot remove the old ones already on the face. By toning up the muscles and nourishing them, you can prevent new lines and wrinkles from forming. Remember, whether you have a lumpy, flabby, withered or sallow skin, your face can regain the appearance of youth under the action of your own fingers. Lines and wrinkles usually appear on the forehead, temples, eyes, nose, cheeks, chin and mouth.

Massage is effective only if the skin is clear. Do not forget to remove all traces of make-up otherwise skin pores will be blocked by particles of dirt. All blackheads should be removed. If the skin is oily, then remove oiliness by applying cleansing milk. Fresh lemon juice is also very effective in removing excess oiliness. If skin is dry, use a good moisturizer before massaging it. If the skin is oily, it is advisable to use some astringent lotion. Apply Vitamin E cream before a massage, but the quantity of this cream should be enough only to give sufficient greasiness to the skin so that the hands and fingers move smoothly on the face.

After having cleaned the skin, press it with light but firm fingers, putting a little pressure while applying a good cream. Trained fingers can hold the skin firmly and apply even pressure. With the passage of time, visible defects like wrinkles, flabbiness and dead cells are greatly reduced and a fresh and young look is restored. Massage should start from the neck upwards and end at the forehead or temples because all veins and tissues get an increased blood supply by this process. The skin around the eyes is delicate. So it is advisable to apply cream on this part without pressing it. Cream takes 15 to 20 minutes to get absorbed by the skin, so massage should continue that long. Wipe off extra cream with a cotton wool swab soaked in water (preferably rose water). The best time to massage the face is before going to bed.

Art of Massaging

Slow Massage - This is the most common method of massage. The secret is to massage slowly and patting/vibrating the skin. Using the fleshy part of your finger tips, press the skin lightly but firmly. The process starts at the base of the neck at a slow speed. The speed increases as the fingers move upwards. Stroking gives rest to the nerves and the vibration is useful in subduing pain that might be caused by massaging.

Fast Massage - The front half of both the palms are used to massage at speed, taking care to make a circular motion upwards.

Pressure Massage - This is a method when pressure is applied by finger-tips. This is effective for removing pouches beneath eyes.

Stroking Massage - Chubby cheeks are stroked with the tips of fingers. If the nose is broad, strokes are applied from the nose to the temples on both sides.

Pinching Massage - the skin is held, as in pincers, between the thumb and fingers. Such a massage is effective for a double chin and wrinkles on the jaw.

Friction Massage - The movement requires pressure on the skin while it is being moved over the underlying structures. Fingers or palms are employed in this movement. Hard movements are usually employed on the scalp while light movements are used on the face especially on the neck.

Piano Playing Movements - This exercise develops facial muscles and makes them firm. It should be done on the entire face, especially the cheek area, with your fingers. The movements must be supple yet brisk.

A Handy Solution For Beautiful Hands

Before getting rid of dust and grime in your house, make sure your hands don't take a beating in the process. Give your hands the care and attention they deserve by following these tips:

• Lock in the Moisture: Applying moisturizer to damp skin immediately after a shower or bath allows skin to seal in the moisturizer. Choose a moisturizer that's effective and safe for sensitive skin, and free of potentially irritating fragrances or dyes.

• Guard Against Harsh Chemicals: Exposure to chemicals and detergents in household cleaning products can take a toll on hands and dry out and irritate sensitive skin. Look for gloves that are designed to keep hands looking their best. "Playtex Living Gloves have multiple layers of neoprene to provide superior protection, versus ordinary latex gloves, from the harsh chemicals found in common household cleaning products," says Joe Hourihan, a vice president of research and development at Playtex Products, Inc. Get into the habit of wearing gloves every time you clean.

• Fight Bacteria and Germs: Hourihan says Playtex Living Gloves have Ultra-Fresh anti-microbial protection to inhibit the growth of odor-causing bacteria, mold and mildew. The gloves also provide excellent hot-water protection.

• Protect Your Manicure: Your hands are your ultimate accessory and you'll want them to look good in any season. Wearing gloves whenever you're cleaning will help your manicures last longer and keep your nails from becoming brittle.

• Take Your Hands to the Spa: Warm a cup of milk in the microwave for 30 seconds (or until warm but comfortable to the touch). Soak your hands for five minutes to strengthen nails and hydrate skin.

Take a page from the model's beauty handbook and wear gloves to keep your hands looking young and feeling silky.

"My hands aren't just important to me, they're my business. So I make it my business to take care of them," says Ellen Sirot, top NYC hand model, Ford Models. "Whenever I do anything that can damage my hands, such as housework, washing dishes or even gardening, I always wear my Playtex Living Gloves."

In addition to keeping your hands soft, Playtex Products Inc. is proud to make a donation to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. on behalf of Playtex Living Gloves (www.NationalBreast Cancer.org).

Following a few simple tips may be all it takes to keep your hands beautiful.

Hair Threading As A Hair Removal Technique

Hair threading is becoming more and more popular as individuals search for a new way to remove hair. The process can be done at home if you would like to or you can get a much better procedure done through a salon. For those that are looking for a new method of hair removal, besides all the waxing and the shaving, hair threading may be the answer for you. Although it is about as painful as waxing, it can help to remove the fine hair that grows over your body.

You will use normal sewing thread to get the job done. The hair will be removed from the root. For an at home method, try this:

Use two feet of sewing thread. Knot the ends to make a large circle.

Hold it in both hands and wind it about ten times until it looks like a bow tie. The wound up portion needs to be in the middle.

Now, spread the fingers of one hand so that the wound portion moves to the other hand. Practice moving it back and forth for a few minutes.

Alternate the fingers that you move, spread and close.

Practice first with your leg hairs until you learn how to do it well.

Prop one leg up while you sit on a chair. Place the wound side of the thread on one side of the hair and lay the thread from the opposite end around both sides of the hair.

Move your fingers as you have been practicing quickly. The hair is captures and pulled from the root.

It is often wise to learn how to do hair threading by watching someone else do it. So, perhaps you should invest in a salon procedure the first time so that you can learn. Yes, it hurts a little and yes it is going to need to be done several times, but the process is one way for you to easily fight back unwanted hair. Once you learn how to do it, you will do it better. And, since there are no real risks of using hair threading there is no reason not to enjoy it.

Learn The Art of Sugaring

How sweet it is! Sugaring is a process that is similar to waxing, but the ingredients are different. Sugaring gets it name from the fact that wax is replaced with a mixture of sugar and honey. The resulting goo sticks to the hairs and not to the skin. In the end, you still end up ripping out you hair by the roots, so pain levels run about the same as waxing.

Most people find that sugaring works best on hair that grows on the upper lip and the bikini line. It's a relatively messy process, so do it in the bathroom or some other area where clean-up will not be a problem. Regardless of where you do it, the results last for two to six weeks. Actually, fine hair will start to show around two weeks after the procedure is done, and the thicker, darker hair growth becomes apparent about four weeks later or so.

Homemade formulas work fine. You can easily make your own sugaring solution right at home. You need 1 cup of white sugar, juice from 1/2 of a lemon, 1/4 cup of honey. Mix the lemon juice, sugar and honey in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high for about 2-3 minutes, until the mixture just begins to bubble and turns smooth. Turn off the microwave and leave the bowl alone until the mixture has had time to cool down to a safe handling temperature. This could be 5 minutes or more. Besides the actual sugaring formula, you'll need some wooden tongue depressors to apply the mixture, some corn starch to help prepare the skin, and some strips of white cotton cloth. An old undershirt works fine.

Ready, set go!

Make sure that the area to be treated is clean and dry. There should be no residue from soap or body lotions. Apply a dusting of cornstarch to the area to be treated. This will help remove excess oils from your skin. Using the tongue depressor, or another suitable applicator, spread a thin layer of the mixture over the area to be treated. Now cover the treated area with a strip of the cotton fabric and rub your hand a few times over the strip the opposite way that your hair grows. Use a moderate pressure. Grab the end of the fabric strip and quickly rip it off in the opposite direction of your hair growth. Wash the treated area with warm water to remove any sticky residue and apply an unscented skin cream or lotion if you want to.

That's all there is to sugaring!

Nowadays, men are increasingly taking care of their skin. We have come to realize this is not just about looking good, its primarily about health. But realizing this, is just the first step, then the second step becomes a little bit harder. Its then, when ask the question: What man skin care products should I use?

First you should start getting to know your skin. Man skin care products are special depending on the type of skin you have. Look at shaving creams and face cleaning soaps for example, they have certain types: for sensitive skin, for dry skin, oily skin. Determine which skin type you have, and work from there.

Other thing you need to keep in mind is your main goal with a product. Man skin care products exist for a variety of applications, from anti-aging creams to pore cleaning products. How To Care For Your Contact Lenses

Taking care of your contact lenses is very important. Properly maintaining your lenses is basically broken down into two categories, and these are disinfection and cleaning. Failing to do either of these things can lead to severe consequences for the health of your eyes. When you clean your lenses, you want to use a special cleaner in order to remove dirt and debris. Disinfecting the lenses will keep them clear of harmful bacteria which can cause your eyes to become infected.

To clean your contacts, you will first want to take them out of your eyes and place them onto your hands. Now you want to take you cleaning solution and place small drops on the lenses. After this, take your index finger and rub the lenses lightly so that they are not scratched. When you take the cleaner off the contacts, you want to make sure you use a solution which is recommended by the manufacturer. It is best to avoid using tap water. Tap water contains bacteria which could be very harmful if it gets into your eyes.

Once you've done this, your contact lenses will be cleaned, but they also need to be sterilized. To sterilize your contacts, they will have to be placed in a case. The case will then need to be filled with a disinfecting agent. It will typically take four hours for the contacts to become completely sterilized. Because of this, many people sterilize their contacts prior to going to bed. When you care for your contacts, it is also important to remove proteins from the surface of the lenses.

If you are wearing contact lenses for the first time, you may be wandering how to tell which way your lenses are facing when you remove them. You can do this by placing the lens on one finger with the cup facing upward. Hold the lens in front of you, and if it is has the shape of a "U", this means it is facing the right side, and is ready to be inserted. Some companies mark their contacts with a laser, and this is another way to determine if they are on the right side.

It is important to never share you contact lenses with others. Contacts are medical tools, and as such should only be worn by the person they are prescribed to. They will not fit anyone else, and it is not good hygiene to share them with others. You or those you share your lenses with could get an infection which is dangerous.

What Goes Into Skin Care Products ?

The market in beauty products has grown significantly in the last 25 years but in the last 10 years there has been an increasing interest in the ingredients contained within the lotions, creams and potions we apply so liberally to our skin - the largest organ of our human bodies.

Many main stream manufacturers still include a range of not so natural ingredients in their products:

- waste products from the petrochemical industry
- lead and other heavy metals
- products extracted from animal carcasses

Many of these ingredients are given scientific sounding names. While the cynic may say this is a deliberate attempt to confuse the consumer, a more charitable view is that this is done in pursuit of accurate labeling.

As a result of the heightened awareness of health matters and the confusion concerning ingredients and labelling, a new sector of this lucrative market has arisen. The need for natural skin care and cosmetics.

But just how natural is natural?

Many consumers require natural ingredients but are not prepared to accept the necessary compromise in product performance. A classic example is with the ingredient Sodium Lauryl Sulphate. This is a synthetic detergent derived from coconut oil and it appears in a wide range of shampoos, bath products, toothpastes and liquid soaps. It is what gives these products the luxurious bubbles and lather to which we have all become accustomed. A number of studies have suggested that this ingredient is harmful and many consumers now seek products containing an alternative.

Manufacturers then developed Sodium Laureth Sulphate, which is considered less irritating than Sodium Lauryl Sulphate. When this was condemned, Ammonium Laureth Sulphate and Ammonium Lauryl Sulphate were substituted. Once again these are synthetic detergents developed from coconut oil and they are still considered to be an irritant. Some studies have also suggested they may be carcinogenic.

Unless consumers have a knowledge of bio-chemistry it is almost impossible to discern what ingredients are natural and what are not. The SLS saga is but one example of this confusion.

It is ironic that a number of "natural" manufacturers aggressively promote their products by denigrating the products of competing companies - despite the fact that the ingredients they contain are essentially the same.

Consumers need to make themselves aware of the real meanings behind the mysterious names on their cosmetic bottles and jars and educate themselves about the various aliases they are likely to encounter.

Depending on the reasons for wanting to purchase natural products, some ingredients may be more acceptable than others. Take Lanolin for example. Lanolin is extracted from the fleece of sheep. It has been shown to contain a large number of chemicals used to kill parasites that may live on the sheep. Many eczema sufferers find that treatment with lanolin based products - despite the chemicals - helps to reduce symptoms. The benefits of Lanolin treatment outweigh the disadvantage of potential contaminants. This is a value judgement that individuals will need to make.

Of course, one of the best ways to ensure that your products are natural is to make them yourself. There is a growing number of companies providing organic based ingredients to facilitate home manufacture of products. Natural cosmetics are surprisingly easy to make in the home using nothing more than regular kitchen equipment. This may be an alternative worth checking-out

Plastic Surgery And Cosmetic Surgery As Options

Plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery can be confusing terms; often used interchangeably they are two distinct disciplines. Plastic surgery is commonly used as a general term for operative or instrumental treatment performed for aesthetic reasons. In reality, plastic surgery is the field which addresses corrective or functional surgeries and procedures. The plastic surgeon is often at work due to the effects of accidents, burns or disease, and has a full surgical residency and strict medical requirements governing their certification.

Cosmetic surgery is a subfield of plastic surgery, and addresses aesthetic or elective procedures in order to enhance features a patient finds unflattering about themselves. Cosmetic surgery is also performed on bodily parts for health purposes, such as breast reductions. The other area of plastic surgery is reconstructive surgery, which takes place when a part of a patient has been damaged in something like an accident or a fire.

In an age where looks are more important than ever before, many people, and especially women, are availing themselves of the many opportunities to have cosmetic procedures on parts they do not like. This cultural reality is reflected in shows such as Extreme Makeover and other hit medical shows that document bodily changes.

More and more, however, people are becoming addicted to cosmetic surgeries. The fact is, that once a person sees how very easy it is to get something they dont like fixed, the more about themselves they do not like and want remedied. Prime celebrity examples of this include Michael Jackson and Joan Rivers.

Cosmetic surgery should never be undertaken without psychological as well as medical consultation. It is imperative that the patient not undertake the operation lightly, with full knowledge of the hazards and the risks of becoming an addict.

It is also very important for a potential patient to do research on the surgeon that will be performing the procedure. There is a lot of money to be made in the cosmetic surgery industry, and all sorts of frauds and quacks are out to get a piece of action. With most things in life, it is important to remember that cheap prices mean cheap work, there is simply no way around it. Those looking for surgeons must choose wisely, or the results could be even more operations and even greater risks.

Tricks Of The Trade For Coloring Your World

This spring, the perfect makeup palette is filled with vibrant colors. Achieving the season's hottest trends, including pink berry lips, is easy with tips from the experts. Renowned makeup artist Carmindy, from TLC's "What Not To Wear," shares her favorites:

• Pink Berry Lips: This spring, femininity ruled the fashion runways and pink berry lips were a must-have. The key to achieving this look is to make lips appear as though they are naturally stained a rich juicy shade of berry. Dab a Q-tips cotton swab into the berry shade of lip color and apply to your lips so the edges are soft and the color is muted. Prevent lip color from bleeding by dipping them into translucent loose powder and applying powder along the outer edge of lips. The powder will help the lip color stay through the night.

• Water Works: Aqua blues and sea foam greens are the hottest eye shadow hues of the season and can easily help update your look. Use a Q-tips cotton swab to mix multiple bright-colored eye shadows and to softly apply them so colors don't appear too harsh. Then, dab light pink or white shimmer in the corner of the eye to brighten and lighten up your entire look. And don't worry about washing your brushes: Q-tips are conveniently disposable so you can use a new one for each color and zap your prep time in half while ensuring brilliant color.

• Strategic Shimmer: Applying shimmer can be tricky, so knowing the right places will help you master this look. The best shimmer spots are under the eyebrows, on the inside corner of the eyes, on top of the cheekbones and down the bridge of the nose. To avoid applying too much sparkle, use a Q-tips cotton swab to pick up just the right amount-they allow for precise makeup application.

• The Magic Eraser: Have you ever flawlessly applied your mascara and then sneezed, ruining everything? Mistakes happen, but can easily be erased with Q-tips cotton swabs-your very own magic beauty wand. Q-tips cotton swabs have more cotton at the tip than any other cotton swab, so they can be used to create a fine tip for precise application or removal. Simply dip one into foundation and roll over the mistake to eliminate without having to remove makeup and start all over again.

• Crease Control: No matter how hard we try, eye shadow on the lids seems to crease by the end of the day. A tip: Use Q-tips to smudge the shadow right back in place.

"Q-tips cotton swabs are the ultimate beauty tool for blending, applying or removing makeup," says Carmindy. "They can help even the busiest women transform their looks quickly and easily."

Plastic Surgery: Do The Risks Matter Or Are The Benefits More Important?

Cosmetic or aesthetic surgery, as the name suggests, is performed for aesthetic reasons. Although certain medical conditions might suggest the need for reconstructive plastic surgery, aesthetic plastic surgery is primarily carried out to alter and beautify features that the patient finds unappealing. While some people go in for aesthetic surgery to defy the signs of aging, others do so as they crave for a celebrity look.

Cosmetic surgery appears to be the most prevalent modern way of personal enhancement. Evidence of this lies in the fact that millions of aesthetic surgery procedures are performed worldwide on an annual basis. And the inherent risks hardly boggle a prospective patient, since the desire to improve appearance is rather unyielding.

Aesthetic surgery, like any other surgical procedure, has possible risks and complications. These may include, but are not limited to, infection, blood clots, bleeding, and reactions to anesthesia. However, such complications are a rarity, and can be further eliminated if the procedure is performed by an expert aesthetic plastic surgeon. Moreover, it is imperative that the patient heeds to the advice of the surgeon, on both pre-operative and post-operative care.

As increasing numbers of people line up for aesthetic surgery, a debate rages whether the procedure is worthy enough of the risks involved. People that hold a dissenting opinion argue that meddling with the natural aspects of beauty is not appropriate and, moreover, opting for a risky surgical procedure for mere beautification purposes is not justifiable. However, aesthetic plastic surgery continues to grow in popularity, as people seek to erase signs of aging, rare blemishes on skin, and beautify features that they find unattractive.

As long as the aesthetics govern our choices in a plethora of ways, the popularity of cosmetic surgery will never die down. With much safer and constantly emerging advanced technology equipment at cosmetic surgeons disposal, there is no looking back for aesthetic surgery.

Achieving Optimum Results in Rhinoplasty

Corrective rhinoplasty is one of the most commonly performed surgical procedures in aesthetic plastic surgery, yet it is also one of the procedures presenting the highest risk of patient dissatisfaction in terms of results.

The growing concern is largely focused on the psychological grounds that persuade patients to undergo nose jobs vis--vis the selection criteria to be followed by surgeons.

To this end, several psychological considerations have been drawn out among which are: the feelings of the individual derive from the presence of an actual deformity or from the mere subjective feeling of one; the nature and magnitude of the limitations on the patient's desire to get rid of the deformity; and, the conflicts deriving from the contrast between subjective ideas of deformity and perfection and what can actually be achieved through surgery.

Some patients couldnt care less and would quick to submit that rhinoplasty procedure is an expression of the surgeons experience, skill and aesthetic taste. This is partly true especially for cosmetic surgeons who have keen sense for aesthetics.

The seemingly conflicting points of view are being addressed with appropriate and collaborative planning of surgery which is crucial to achieve optimal results or meeting, as far as possible, the patients aesthetic expectations.

The pre-operative interview or evaluation gives the patient and the surgeon the chance to discuss their different and crucial points of view such as the margins of variability compared to the expected outcome, and possible complications independent of the technical procedure.

On top of the process is a careful analysis of the parameters and proportions of the face which are considered reference points for male and female beauty. Next, patient should be made to understand that his/her subjective want to modify his/her appearance according to his/her owns aesthetic criteria and desires should meet certain criteria to guarantee harmony and objective proportions.

More often, it is often difficult for the surgeon to explain in comprehensible terms for the patient the technical concepts based on specific anatomical references. The use of photographic images and illustrations would contribute to a mutual understanding.

The advent of digital imaging presents numerous advantages inasmuch as they are more convenient. Both the surgeon and the patient can be meticulous to a fault because computers make it possible to acquire, store and catalog images and technical outlines of rhinoplasties. Also, there are versatile and powerful application programs available to effectively highlight surgical alternatives, and generally aid in providing reliable result-driven data.

From a clinical point of view, this technique offers the possibility of producing an image which is very close to reality, in the same light, it forces the surgeon to achieve agreed result.

However, using this technique, the patient will have to be informed, in specifics, about the possible outcome that may differ considerably from the virtual reconstruction. It is best to present a broad range of results, including second-rate or standard results.

Conversely, the patient should liberally express his/her comprehension of the matter and his/her consent.

The general opinion, as in all plastic surgery procedures, lies in the fact that patients may be relieved of their psychological distress only if the expected results discussed with the surgeon are achieved.

Teeth Whitening Products A True Love Story

There were so many teeth whitening products found in the dental aisle at the local grocery store, that Jonathan could not decide which one was best for him. All he wanted was to finally have white teeth, but after looking around he could not decide exactly how much should a bright smile cost. There was a diverse amount of teeth whitening products on both sides of him, and the shelves were absolutely packed with gels, toothpastes and creams that all touted themselves as the absolute best choice in tooth whiteners.

With all his worries about how much should a bright smile cost, Jonathan found himself picking up every tooth whitener around him and reading the product information to himself but out loud. This tooth whitening gel eliminates stains and will guarantee the white teeth you have always dreamed of, he told one teeth whitening product, as if the box of tooth whitener would somehow speak back. And this product promises to guarantee teeth whitening also or your money back. Jonathan began to worry more; all he wanted was to whiten his smile before tomorrows big date with Sheila they had met in this very grocery store last week.

Just as Jon felt he might drown in a sea of teeth whitening products, he reached out for one more white teeth remedy, and he placed his hand on someone elses hand who was also reaching for the same product that promised a low bright smile cost. He looked up from his hand to those same piercing green eyes hed met last week. What are you doing here Sheila? He asked her.

She told him shed come to the tooth whitener aisle for the same reason he had; she wanted to have beautiful white teeth for when she met him tomorrow. So she came back to the store to get some teeth whitening products, but had seen Jon looking through all the products for the very same reason. Well, I dont know how much might a bright smile cost, but I might do know one thing. Jon told her with his own bright smile. I know that Im glad we are both nervous about the same silly thing, and that makes me think that tomorrow will be the start of something absolutely wonderful. And it was.

Popular Teeth Whitening Options

You've seen the ads. By using either strips soaked in a special solution or by brushing your teeth with a special formula, you can whiten your teeth. Many consumers are opting for these less expensive forms of teeth whitening. Others may choose to have their teeth bleached by a dentist, while still some go for a full veneer set of teeth whitening in true "extreme makeover" fashion. But how do these teeth whitening products work? And do over the counter teeth whitening products really remove more than coffee and tea stains to the enamel? This article will take a look what substances can cause discoloration of the teeth as well as the various methods used to whiten the teeth.

Discoloration of the Teeth: Causes

I've already mentioned some of the substances that contribute to staining or dulling of enamel, such as coffee and tea. There are more contributors to this problem. Some other factors that cause staining to the teeth include, tobacco use, caffeinated sodas, injury to the tooth, discoloration related to the antibiotic Tetracycline and aging.

Teeth Whitening Toothpastes

Teeth whitening toothpastes are recommended for minimal stains such as coffee and tea. They are however very beneficial for people who have already undergone a professional teeth whitening or bleaching session and would like to keep their results. These toothpastes consist of a mixture of a mild solution of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda.

Teeth Whitening and Home Bleaching Kits

You can purchase home bleaching kits at any drugstore. These consist of a mouth tray and gel solution. You soak your teeth in the solution for at least 10 minutes. Though these have had successful reports, they aren't fully recommended by the American Dental Association. If you decide to use a home bleaching kit, be sure to follow the instructions carefully, and not to use more than is recommended. Another form of these mouth tray/gel teeth whitening systems is the prescription kind. Yes, your dentist can prescribe an at home teeth whitening system. This is more advantageous than the over the counter brand, because the dentist can follow up with you and make sure that none of your previous dental work is being effected by the kit.

Teeth Whitening and Power Bleaching

The power associated with Power Bleaching refers to the level of hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen Peroxide is the active ingredient that causes teeth whitening systems to work. For example, an over the counter teeth whitening toothpaste contains less than one percent Hydrogen Peroxide, while a few newer products do contain up to ten percent Hydrogen Peroxide. Some of the over the counter teeth whitening kits contain between 10 and 16 percent Hydrogen Peroxide, and a Power Bleaching solution contains up to 35 percent Hydrogen Peroxide. This procedure takes place in the dentists office and consists of the high concentrated Peroxide solution and the use of bright lights. The results are impressive and last for a few years. If you are interested in Power Bleaching, contact your dentist for recommendations.

Veneers

Veneers are a very popular method of permanent teeth whitening. Veneers are actually made out of porcelain and are attached to the tooth. It can be an expensive process though, costing as much as $900 per tooth.

Whichever method of teeth whitening you prefer, you should always consult with your dentist before choosing any products and use all products according to their instructions.

Celebrity Hair Styles Think Before You Copy!

Ever turn on the television and become instantly infatuated with the latest celebrity hair style sported by Jennifer Aniston or other highly-emulated celebrities? If so, you are not alone. In fact, most fashion trends actually begin after a celebrity has worn them and the same is true when it comes to celebrity hair styles.

Just think of Ashton Kutcher and how many men now wear his tousled celebrity hair style. How about Kate Winslet and all of her manifestations? The truth is that styling your tresses similar to a celebrity hair style is hot. But should you always turn to celebrities to find your latest style, and how can you mirror the celebrity hair style when celebrities have a staff of professionals catering to their every hair whim?

There are good reasons on both sides of the equation when it comes to choosing a celebrity hair style. For some, a celebrity hair style can be the perfect answer when they find themselves in a style slump. For others, choosing a celebrity hair style can be a big mistake. Here are just a few of the pros and cons when it comes to celebrity hair styles.

Why you should copy

1.Celebrities have access to some of the most talented and highest paid beauty professionals in the industry. While you may not be able to afford a consult with one of these style legends yourself, you have the perfect opportunity to see and emulate their work with a celebrity hair style.

2.For the most part, celebrities are on the cutting edge of fashion. When you choose a celebrity hair style, you do not have to worry about looking dated or being out of style.

3.C'mon let's face it. We look up to celebrities because they always look fashionable and beautiful. If you are looking for a celebrity hair style to pull your look together, then there is no better place to look than to the stars.

Why not to copy

1.Celebrities are seen by virtually everybody, and when a new celebrity hair style causes a sensation, you can be sure that everyone will be trying to emulate it. So, while you may be thinking that you are going to look sensational with your new celebrity hair style, you may end up looking like a copy cat.

2.Celebrities do not have to choose easy styles because they have hair stylists and make-up artists solely dedicated to making them look beautiful. On the other hand, you probably do not. So, be careful not to choose a celebrity hair style that will have you pulling out your hair when you have to spend hours keeping it up.

3.Stylists to the stars choose particular celebrity hair styles for their clients because they are perfect for their face shape and type and texture of hair. Not everybody can pull off every style. Be careful not to choose a celebrity hair style that makes you look ridiculous.

While there are pros and cons to everything, choosing a celebrity hair style should be something that you give some thought to before making a final decision. Not everyone is worth millions, but you can look like you are if you choose your celebrity hair styles wisely.

Skin Care- Look Young Forever By Keeping Your Acid Mantle Healthy

Skin care and acid mantle-

What is acid mantle and why it is important for healthy skin? We all hear so much about pH-balanced products. How do they affect acid mantle? And how do we look young? If you know how to take care of the protective acid mantle, you have won half the battle. Let me tell you how?

Skin oils and acid mantle-

Skin secretes sebum and sweat. Both of these combine to create a protective film on the skin, which is called acid mantle. The mixture is acidic and its pH is between 4 to 5.5. Because of this acidity of this film, bacteria get killed and cannot attack the skin. Bacteria love alkalinity and the acid keeps them away. The acid mantle also protects skin from losing its moisture. If we strip the acid mantle away that can cause a lot of damage to our young looking skin.

Skin acid mantle- how do we strip it?

we strip the acid mantle by using alkaline soaps and cleansers. Sun exposure also strips the acid mantle. Those who have little oily skin are in a great rush to remove all the skin oils and manage to strip the oily acid mantle away. This exposes skin not only to bacteria but also the chances of triggering eczema etc. increases substantially.

Acne and acid mantle-

Many of those who have acne wash their face frequently. As a result they dry their skin totally. The acne may not go away, but the protective acid mantle surely goes away exposing the skin to more infections. Keep a healthy acid mantle on the skin and protect yourself. Use AHA mixed cleansers to maintain the acidity of the skin and use pH balanced products to keep skin young forever.

How Zoom Teeth Whitening Works

No matter how frequently you brush your teeth, no matter how careful you are when flossing, they will still get yellow after a while. This natural process of teeth loosing their bright white color is aggravated if you are a smoker or if you drink coffee on a regular basis. There are several procedures, such as the Zoom teeth whitening method, that can help your teeth get back to a bright new white in a matter of hours.

Apart from the popular Zoom teeth whitening procedure you can also try several others, however, when making the choice, your dentist should also have some advice for you. In general you can opt for an "at home" whitening method or for the several dental office whitening procedures. The last set of procedures includes the Zoom teeth whitening method let's see why this procedure is so effective.

How does Zoom teeth whitening work?

This method consists of a mixture of gel and special light wave treatments. The patient is seated and the dentist uses a retractor to separate the lips from the teeth so that the gel can be applied. A special gel is then applied on all the exterior faces of the teeth. The dentist is careful, at this point, not to let the gel touch the patients gums too much, as it may cause irritation or lesions.

After the Zoom teeth whitening gel covers the teeth uniformly, the dentist will shine a special bright light on it for about one hour. The special properties of the Zoom teeth whitening gel and the energy produced by the lamp produce chemical reactions that lead to tooth whitening. Although waiting for an hour in the dentist's chair for the gel and light waves to take effect might sound boring, it is one of the best tooth whitening methods available today.

How long does it last and what effects can I expect?

The answers to the questions are different from one person to another. In most cases, a Zoom teeth whitening procedure is done twice a year. An average person who drinks coffee frequently and smokes daily will have improved tooth brightness - around 10 shades brighter. After the procedure is completed, the teeth will gradually start to regain their yellowish color over time, depending on how well you take care of them. On average, people who went through in office tooth whitening procedures noticed that their teeth stay white for months, although the initial brightness does not last more than a few weeks.

The beauty of this system is that it is fast, efficient and has no side effects (although some patients did experience tooth sensitivity for one or two days after the procedure). Overall, Zoom teeth whitening is an excellent choice for anyone looking to get a bright and attractive smile.

To Keep Makeup Looking Fresh, Take A Powder

Beauty expert and renowned makeup artist Sonia Kashuk, who has worked with the world's top models, answers your questions and offers tips, tricks and tools to help you look your best.

Q: My makeup always looks great right after I've applied it but after a few hours it fades. How do you make your makeup last throughout the day?

A: The answer may surprise you…whether the product says "long-wearing" or not, you can keep your makeup looking fresh from dusk 'til dawn by using proper application techniques. The greatest trick I have learned over the years: Loose powder is your complexion's best friend!

• Concealer-Gently dot concealer and blend using your finger or concealer brush around the under-eye area. Seal coverage by lightly sweeping the area with a small powder brush dusted with sheer, loose powder.

To try: Sonia Kashuk Barely There Loose Powder in Translucent Matte.

• Cream Blush-I am a firm believer that less is more…especially with cream products. Because of its consistency, it is the nature of cream blush to move on the face. One way to prevent this from happening is to apply a dusting of sheer loose powder over the cheeks after you have applied the blush to keep it where it belongs-on your cheeks.

To try: Sonia Kashuk Crme Blush Duo in Color My World or Brighten My Day.

• Eyeliner-Eyeliner smudges by nature, but tends to look sexier when slightly imperfect. Rather than using black, which can look harsh, I often recommend trying navy blue.

To try: Sonia Kashuk Eye Definer in Midnight. Tip: For a strong, solid line, use a liquid liner for precision and stay-put finish.

• Lipstick/Lip Gloss-There are products on the market made specifically to prevent feathering, and a secret trick of mine that I always use if I don't have my Lip Glossing/No Feather Pencil on me is to dab foundation on your fingertip and smooth it over your lip line. This smooths out any lines around the mouth and provides an even surface for lip color to adhere…and stick to.

Q: How do I know what makeup colors work best for my coloring?

A: Here's a surprising tip: To identify colors that will work for you, use your hair as a guide, not your eyes! If you're blonde, go with creams and taupes. Brunettes look great in mochas and chocolate browns. If you're auburn or a redhead, choose shades of copper and peach, or cool tones like pinks and lavenders. Gray hair looks gorgeous with tones of grays, soft purples and blues.

If you're unsure about colors, stick to neutrals. You can still achieve drama and variety with neutral tones-they're actually my favorite to work with. Or, to make it really simple, pick up one of my new Face Palettes, which are designed to correspond to your specific hair hue for expertly coordinated, complementary colors.

Makeup Made Easy

Make-Up Made Easy

Giving a warm, natural color of blood rushing to your cheeks - this is what blush does. Blush gives depth and contour to your cheeks and accentuates your inner glow. Unfortunately, blush comes in a wide variety of hues, shades and tones that can get you confused on which shade is just right for your skin. A guide for beginners and experts alike, read on to get the full story on one of the cosmetic industry's best effects.

1. Choosing the appropriate shade of blush for your skin tone

This is similar to picking the right shade for your foundation, concealer or eye shadow. It is hard to pick out the right one - doing this would require comprehension of color theory. But, you dont need to worry. Blushers today are very flexible, which will blend onto your skin tone easily. Getting off at the wrong track, however, will make your face drained or looking like a clown.

2. What to consider

There are two simple things to take into consideration - skin and the context.

Skin tone

- Know whether your skin is a warm or cool tone.

- If you have a yellow undertone, you will settle in better with cool colors like mauve, rose and pinkish plum.

- Orange, copper, almond or peach is appropriate for olive-skinned while blue skin tones (very dark-skinned) can opt for dark red or auburn.

- Those with a neutral look can have any color while those with pink tones can get away without a blush at all.

Skin intensity

- The darker the skin, the stronger the color of the blush. So it follows that the lighter the skin, the lighter the blush.

- The intensity of the blusher will make or break your look. Having a blusher that is too weak for your skin will not even be seen.

- Fair-skinned women may use a shade from a pale pinkish red to beige - you can also apply powder blush on top to have that transluscent effect.

- Medium tones call for warm pinks, brown-based pinks or soft beige. For the olive-skinned, brown-red, soft berry, honey beige or plum pink is recommended.

- Those with a darker skin color can use deep bronze, soft mahogany or cocoa.

Context

- Consider the color of your hair and eyes. Dark or black hair tends to make the skin look paler, so a stronger blush than the recommended shade might be needed.

- Neutral shades like a bronzer should complement blonde hair and tanned skin.

- Peach is a safer color for red heads or those with loud hair colors, since it competes with your blush.

- Daytime or nighttime? Soft, natural colors like warm pinks, beige, peach, and mauve is more appropriate for evening affairs. A bronzer can also be a substitute to blushers if you want a sun-kissed look.

3. Sure-fire blush selection, made easy!

Do physical activity for about two to three minutes until your cheeks become pink. If youre still having a hard time knowing what the right shade is best for you, ask someone from the make-up counter. Since they have charts and color wheels, it is best that you ask them for advice on color.

4. Applying the Blush

If youre thinking on buying a blush, remember that you wont find out the real shade until you try it out. Apply on the inside of your forearm to find out the color. If it doesnt stand out, then you have chosen the right color.

Experimenting with the right shade and color would require a face in full make-up. This will let you know if your blush is balanced with your make-up. Make sure that your blush will match the color of your lipstick. Applying a little blush to the tip of your nose and chin will balance your look.

To ensure that your blush will blend with your make-up, apply blusher first or else it will compete with your eyeshadow and lip color. If you find out that you have too much blush, dont fret. Just get a dry and clean sponge to soften the colors. Remember, this will all be in vain if you dont know how to apply blush properly.

How To Get The Red Out

There could be good news for the over 16 million women in the United States who live with facial redness. An embarrassing and fairly common skin problem, facial redness often appears on the nose, cheeks and chin and can take various forms-from a slight flush to more noticeable red blotches on the face.

Dermatologist Patti Farris advises her patients to understand exactly what triggers their facial redness and take steps to avoid those factors. "Facial redness triggers can vary from person to person, but most often result from sun exposure, weather conditions, stress, or reactions to certain foods or drinks."

Dermatologists also suggest:

• Visit a dermatologist. Persistent facial redness can mean a serious medical condition such as rosacea. A dermatologist can help you understand how to have healthier, more even-toned skin.

• Document and avoid skin triggers. Keep a diary of daily activities and note when your skin flares up or becomes red.

• Use the right skin care products. From cleansing to moisturizing to sun protection, following an appropriate skin care regimen is essential in preventing irritation and skin redness. Look for products specifically formulated for sensitive or visibly red skin. One dermatologist-trusted brand, Eucerin, has recently introduced a Redness Relief Regimen Kit. The four-product, trial-sized kit was created to provide immediate redness relief while improving the condition of visibly red skin in four weeks.

This regimen is clinically prov-en to be fully compatible with popular prescriptions that have a benefit on rosacea-great news for the millions of people looking for additional, safe options for treating their facial redness.

• Cover up. Apply a daily sunscreen and always grab a hat and sunglasses as well before heading outside.

• Don't let your skin affect your self-esteem. Dermatologists suggest green neutralizers such as those in the kit for an even-toned complexion throughout the day.
