So Whats in a Moisturizer?

Moisturizers are used by millions of people to restore the moisture level that is found naturally in their skin. As people go through life and face a variety of activities, the skins natural layer of protective lipids gets worn away. The result is dry skin and it can be uncomfortable or painful depending on which degree a person has it. Moisturizers help the skin maintain and repair when the elements dry out our epidermis. They are often complex mixtures of chemicals that come from a large number of ingredients.
Humectants are mixtures of chemicals such as urea, lactic acid, and sorbitol. Some ingredients such as creatinine, amino acids, ammonia, and glucosamine are considered natural moisturizing factors because of their low molecular weight. Emollients are organic substances extracted from wool called lanolin. It acts as a barrier against water loss and softens the stratum corneum by smoothing it out and lubricating it. Other emoolients include hexyl decanol, oleyl alcohol, decyl oleate, isopropyl myristate, and dioctyl cyclohexane. Preservatives are often added to moisturizers to keep bacterias and fungus from growing on them and fragrance is added to give the product a desirable smell.
Moisturizers can claim to do a number of things with little or no evidence that prove it is actually effective. Adding vitamins to products has been a fairly common ploy to get consumers to buy their particular brand of moisturizer in the past. This supposedly will restore the skins moisture and repair collagen that causes wrinkles and age lines. Of course, it usually adds to the price tag of the product as well. The ingredients that are added are all inexpensive, but manufacturers know that a price tag is often directly related to how effective a consumer thinks a product is.
Although they claim to cure all the skins ailments, complex moisturizers can sometimes have the reverse effect. Natural skin lipids are sometimes added to moisturizers that in the correct proportion promote healthy skin repair. If an incorrect proportion is used, it can delay the skins natural ability to repair damaged skin. Knowing what is inside a moisturizer can help a knowing consumer which is the best product for their particular skin type.

8 Tips For Choosing The Right Cosmetics For Your Skin Type

The right cosmetics for any skin type is important to create a fresh natural appearance as well as to prevent reactions to the cosmetics such as allergies with resulting rashes, itching and weeping or breakouts with whiteheads or blackheads and painful skin eruptions. Every person's skin is unique and different areas on a person's face may have different characteristics which must be taken into consideration when choosing appropriate cosmetics.

If you've been disappointed when your powder eye shadow creases and slides before lunch or your foundation looks lined and caked, understanding the characteristics of your skin and purchasing appropriate cosmetics for your skin type is a worthwhile exercise. Here are some tips to help you look your best.

Avoid cosmetics that dry or irritate your skin

Each different skin type will react differently to the various types of cosmetics. Even if a particular brand works for your eye shadow, the same brand may not work for lipstick. This is because the skin type on your eyelids may be very different from the skin type on your lips. When you are choosing cosmetics such as foundation, for example, avoid drying cosmetics or cosmetics that cause your skin to break out. Unfortunately, you may have to try several products in order to determine those that work on your skin consistently. Another issue which must be considered is that your skin may build up a reaction to a particular cosmetic which did not previously cause a skin irritation, so you may be forced to find an alternative to a tried and true brand which worked well in the past. Skin characteristics may change significantly over a lifetime as well, forcing a change in the type of cosmetics which you select.

Consider your skin tone when selecting cosmetics

Even if the particular type of cosmetic is just right for your skin type, choosing the wrong color--one which is either too light or too dark will make the cosmetics less than attractive. Select cosmetics that complement and match your skin tone and minor imperfections in skin tone and texture will disappear. Darker foundations, deeper colors for eye shadow and eyeliner will be best suited for those with chocolate or olive skin tones. On the other end of the spectrum, if you have pale skin, you should choose lighter shades of foundation and eye makeup. Cosmetics should enhance, never overpower the skin tones.

Invest in quality makeup

Quality makeup often tends to get painful to the pocketbook, but it shows on your skin. Cheap makeup can cake or slide on your skin and isn't as likely to blend. It is more likely to sit on the surface, giving a plastic look. Look for good quality cosmetics that aren't necessarily expensive. It's better to invest in yourself by purchasing quality makeup that you know looks great with your skin type.

Dry Skin

If you are the victim of skin that is dry, don't despair. You should find a mousse or crme type foundation. If you use a concealer, make sure it is cream based and your compact powder should be pressed compact powder. You should avoid loose power or oil free formulas as they will tend to settle in the fine lines on your face. Eye makeup is best done with silk-textured powder or crme eye shadows and eyeliner should be either a shimmer pencil or a matte type. Moisture is the key word with lipsticks and lip glosses. Find a moisturizing lipstick and use lip gloss that has ingredients such as aloe or vitamin E, both of which provide additional lip moisture.

Sensitive Skin

Look for products that are labeled specifically for use with sensitive skin and avoid fragrances in your cosmetic products. Non-allergenic is another phrase to look for on the labels. The key is to avoid anything with high dye levels or preservatives.

Combination Skin

You can either choose different products for different skin conditions on your face or you can select products which are specifically created for combination skin. Even so-called normal skin often has areas which are more or less oily than other areas. Normal skin may have times during the monthly cycle when it is oilier than usual.

Oily Skin

For oily skin, try using an oil free primer before applying a matte type foundation that won't clog your pores.Loose powder has fewer oils than pressed powder. Blot the skin periodically throughout the days to remove any shine. Avoid cremes for eye shadow or mascara and creamy style lip pencils.

Cleanser options

Avoid harsh or drying cleansers as well as greasy cleansers since either extreme will react unfavorably with your skin type. The best skin cleanser, regardless of the skin type is a water-soluble cleanser that is gentle on the skin.

New 'Smile Shapers' Help You Make a Better First Impression

We don't want to believe it, but it's true. Looks do matter.

Everyone knows it's important to look good for a job interview or beauty pageant, but how much do looks matter in everyday situations? Do attractive people get better service, more money, more prestige? Many sociology studies say yes.

For instance, a "Dateline NBC" segment compared various "everyday" responses to a female and male model with responses to an average looking female and male. In almost all cases, from dropping papers to being "lost in the city," the models were treated significantly better than their counterparts. With facts like these, it's no wonder why people go to great lengths to improve their appearance.

When it comes to a beauty boost, many people start with their smile. A bright, healthy smile can immediately bolster anyone's looks. That's why more and more people are visiting their dentists for cosmetic procedures to improve worn, misshapen and misaligned teeth.

However, the veneers that are traditionally used are generally associated with discomfort and pain. They bring to mind long, painful hours in the dentist's chair. But now, new technology, like Lumineers by Cerinate, makes the smile-enhancement process easy and painless. Lumineers are contact-lens thin, super translucent "smile shapers" that make worn and misshapen teeth look straighter, more uniform and permanently white in the most natural way possible.

Lumineers, which can only be made from Cerinate Porcelain have a great advantage. The procedure requires little to no sensitive tooth structure removal for application. This means no injections and virtually no grinding down, drilling, shaving or cutting away of teeth. Since the process is so simple and gentle, the sensitivity usually felt after a traditional restoration procedure is eliminated.

"Lumineers are changing the way dentists improve teeth, giving patients the confidence to go for the smile they've always wanted," said David Nusblatt, a dentist in New York.

In just two visits to the dentist, you can have a smile that's custom made for you and clinically proven to last up to 20 years.

Professional Makeup Application

While many women turn to the magic of makeup to revitalize their look, too many ladies achieve a result that is very unflattering. Too much eye shadow and that sultry, smoky look turns into the equivalent of a black eye. Not enough blush, and your cheeks look very unhealthy. Choose the wrong lipstick? You can attract the wrong attention, while failing to secure your dream job.

"Too much" makeup, along with poor makeup selection, can be a very bad thing indeed. Heavy application - or even merely a heavy-handed application of a relatively small amount of makeup - can make your skin appear lifeless and flaky.

All of the Hollywood starlets appear on the scene wearing significant amounts of makeup, and they all achieve that perfect look. What's a real-life lady to do? The answer is simple: do as the starlets do - use the same tricks and techniques makeup artists carry in their arsenal!

Building the Right Makeup Foundation

Considering that foundation is the makeup product that comprises the majority of your face, choosing the right tone is critical in creating an attractive look. Professional makeup artists all opt for liquid foundation, which has the most natural, smooth appearance.

Using a makeup sponge, liquid foundation goes on much more evenly, and looks more natural than powder foundation. Powder foundation has a tendency to look patchy, bringing out dry spots in the skin when applied. Thus, choose a good liquid foundation, and you're on your way to a beautiful, made up appearance!

The second element to the foundation is choosing the perfect match for your complexion. The last thing you want is a foundation that appears to be too dark for your skin color. Similarly, a foundation that is too light in color will make your skin seem unnecessarily pale, and this makeup may not conceal any blemishes or skin imperfection.

Professional makeup artists almost never use foundation straight from the bottle; instead, they mix and match several shades to create the perfect color for each individual. Consumers can also enjoy this luxury by working with companies that create custom foundation shades.

Always Choosing Blush

One of the most underrated makeup products, blush is important for every single individual, whether or not you are attempting to achieve rosy cheeks. Once you have applied your foundation, your imperfections are indeed covered - but so are your natural skin colorations. The natural, healthy color in your cheeks is dampened, and thus, you should use blush to revitalize that healthy glow. Remember, blush does not necessarily mean pink. The shades of peach and bronze allow you to achieve the look you desire, whether it is sultry or chic, but still give the underlying appearance of healthy, vibrant skin. Particularly for business or professional events, you want just a touch of blush on your cheeks so that you look awake and refreshed.

Once you selected and purchased the perfect pale blush, use a large round makeup brush to apply. Study the contours of your face and determine where your cheekbones are. You may wish to suck in your cheeks, applying the blush makeup in upwards strokes along the contours. The purpose of blush is to accent those cheekbones to create an illusion that your face looks more angular and slimmer, so follow the line of cheekbones to accentuate them further.

Intelligent Makeup Color Choices

Many professional makeup artists utilize color palettes to select the perfect colors that compliment their clients' skin. Your makeup should follow the same rule. Make sure that you fully understand your skin tone, and choose your makeup colors accordingly. For example, if you have an olive skin tone, you want to avoid yellows and greens, but instead, choose roses and browns.

When you remember that makeup is meant to accentuate - not cover up - your natural beauty, then you can make the right choices that allow your face to enjoy a flawless appearance.

Cellulite Treatments Vital Facts And Information

Cellulite is a common term used to describe overfilled fat pockets right under your skin. These are fat cells that have become enlarged causing these cells to take up more space between the skin's connective tissues than normal. The fat then expands these spaces resulting in the overlying skin dimpling, often called the orange peel effect.

It appears in ninety percent of post-adolescent women and is rarely seen in men. Common areas where cellulite is found, are the thighs, buttocks, and the abdomen. Contrary to popular belief, cellulite is not related to obesity, since it occurs in overweight, normal, and thin women. Cellulite causes many image problems and many women avoid wearing short skirts or shorts because of it.

Some of the contributing factors for developing cellulite are:

Heredity. However, you can still do a lot to fight cellulite.

Not drinking enough water. Water helps flush toxins and waste from your body. Drink seven to eight glasses of water a day.

Diet. Poor eating habits (alcohol, caffeine, spicy or fatty foods) contribute to the formation of cellulite because the toxins they produce get trapped in the fatty tissue. Saturated fats block the arteries and get trapped in the tissue as well, preventing sufficient waste and toxin elimination.

Smoking is not only bad for the skin and lungs, but it weakens the skin by causing constriction of capillaries. It also damages the connective tissue and can increase the dimpling effect of cellulite.

Tension and stress can cause a muscle to seize up in pain; they can also cause the connective tissue that covers that muscle to seize up. Tension can also block the tissue, preventing proper waste elimination and purification.

Medication can disturb the body's natural processes, disturbing the purification system that is naturally in place. Diet pills, sleeping pills and diuretics can all lead to cellulite; oral contraceptives, which increase the body's oestrogen, cause fat cells to enlarge, leading to water retention. Retaining water inhibits the body from flushing the system of toxins, leading to the formation of cellulite.

Lack of exercise contributes to the formation of cellulite. Exercise decreases many health risks and also helps fight cellulite. It improves muscle tone, circulation and overall well-being, helping to break blocked tissue and purify the body.

Cellulite Treatments

There are three main treatments for cellulite; namely, endermologie, cosmetic surgery, and topical creams or lotions.

Endermologie

The Endermologie machine, developed in France over a decade ago, has been found to have an effect in fighting cellulite. It uses rollers and gentle suctioning to deeply massage the affected areas, increasing circulation. Toxins and abnormal water buildup are expelled as connective fibres are stretched. Endermologie also exfoliates the skin, leaving it soft and silky. The increased circulation may give you a natural energy boost. Many sessions are normally needed. This can add up to several hundred dollars.

Cosmetic Surgery

Treatments like liposuction (surgery to remove fat) and mesotherapy (injection of drugs into cellulite) are either expensive or may produce only temporary improvement. Many doctors advise against liposuction to reduce cellulite because it is designed to remove deep fat instead of cellulite, which is close to the skin. This is performed by a plastic surgeon and can be expensive compared to other methods. Consult with your doctor if you want to explore this further.

Cellulite Creams or Lotions

This is the safest and most popular way to reduce the problem. Because cellulite is actually little pockets of fat under your skin, your blood circulation does not easily reach these areas. Specially formulated creams can help.

Some of the ingredients used in these products include :

Algae extract - which can help break down fat and increase your metabolism.

Green tea extracts - will back up the algae extract and increase the rate at which your fat is broken down to form smooth tissue.

Retinol A - a compound that is a derivative of Vitamin A and targets your skin and connective tissues directly to condition and strengthen. Retinol A has a rejuvenating effect on your skin, and will decrease your cellulite while preventing it from becoming worse over time. It can improve your skin's texture, so your skin will become smoother and firmer and this helps your cellulite vanish even faster.

Creams or lotions are the most economical of the three treatments, however like the others, it may take a couple of months to see measurable results.

Natural Antiaging Skincares

Nothing has been more better pursued by people than antiaging methods. Since it is such a heart subject it involves a lot of mystique and unfounded beliefs. Sometimes myths are better looked at and believed than the naked truth because they are more popular since they are usually spread by word of mouth, and they come from tradition. There are some natural antiaging skincares that are traditional.

The best way today to keep fit and healthy is exercise. With the age the body metabolism slows down, and same slows down the blood circulation, the body oxygenation. Exercise keeps the body going and with it increases the blood circulation to all of the parts of the body including the skin. Good exercise provides good blood circulation, this provides adequate oxygenation to the skin making it supple and radiant.

Probably everyone knows the term - beauty sleep. People say that if you sleep four hours before midnight you will not get wrinkles for a long time. And the true is that sleep plays a major role in the way your skin looks. Research has proved beyond any doubts that good sleep does really affect the skin cells life circle and elasticity. Getting regular sufficient sleep is one the best antiaging skincares you will ever get at absolutely no cost.

The human body's composition is mostly made of water. Hence if there is a depletion of water many complications set in, aging of skin being one of the most minor of them, though one of the most visible. One of the best antiaging skincares that are affordable and within everyones reach is drinking plenty of water, that's definitely.

There are also a number of herbal and natural cosmetic products today that are freely available on the market which make exceptionally good antiaging skincares aids. Here's are some examples: there is the sun block which prevents the damage of skin due to sun burn and UV rays, there is the lipstick which keeps your lips moisturized and protected from sun, there is the moisturizer which will keep the skin supplied with the water it needs, and the list goes on.

The true is that you cannot stop aging, but you can definitely slow it down if you are willing to regulate your habits in your life and observe a few ground rules for your skin care on a daily basis. Antiaging skincare does not need to be something extraordinarily expensive or complicated.

If you respect nature, believe me, it has it's way of saying 'thanks' to you and your skin. So choose natural antiaging skincares first and you'll be rewarded.

Agel MIN: The Best Way to Get All of the Necessary Vitamins and Minerals to Keep Up Your Pace in this World!

Do you ever feel like youre just not keeping the pace like you used to?

This is an ever growing trend and the cause is most likely barring any sort of serious health condition the fact that youre simply not getting all of the essential vitamins and minerals that your body requires to function at 100%.

With our diets becoming increasingly worse and worse, in addition to the depleted levels of vitamins and minerals in the food that we do eat, most of us are walking around without sufficient energy to get through our busy days.

A revolutionary company named Agel Industries has done exactly whats necessary to assist you in getting all the vital nutrients that you need everyday with their innovative product Agel MIN. This is a product that provides you with the ideal amount 100% of the Recommended Daily Intake, (otherwise known as RDI) of vitamins and 50% RDI of essential minerals.

So how does this help you?

Wellits as simple as this. Vitamins and minerals are the basic foundation of healthy living. They are basically involved with every single biochemical action that occurs in your body in some sort of way, which means that they act as coenzymes and cofactors. Again, this just means that they assist with all the goings on in our bodies that makes us sustain health.

Now heres how Agels MIN differs from all of the other me too multi-vitamin products out there in the overcrowded market, and why MIN is quickly becoming a stand out product. The way that this product is designed, just as all of their products are designed, is within a revolutionary proprietary gel formula unique to Agel known as gelceuticals. What this means for you is that the nutrients within the product the 12 essential vitamins and 11 vital minerals are absorbed more completely and efficiently into your body and into the digestive system.

This is because these ingredients are either suspended within the gel, or dissolved into the gel, so that as your body absorbs it, its also just as quickly and completely absorbing the nutrients within. Compare this to the ordinary vitamin pill which must be digested first, and then whatever nutrients are left after that whole process, gets absorbed into your body that is if its not excreted out before it gets a chance to do what its meant to do. Its a huge difference, and if you really think about it, a huge money saver. You could almost say that buying pill vitamins is the same as flushing your money down the toilet.

Balding Cures Scams or Not?

If youre one of the millions of men and women who are balding, youre probably paying an incredible amount of attention to the many companies touting products that will end your problems. Before you rush out to pay for the miracle cure, take a minute to evaluate the products and the companies.

One of the most important things to remember is your moms advice if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If you have eight hairs left on your entire head, a can of spray paint isnt going to make those eight look like a full head of hair. While theres some merit to the idea (mascara works roughly on the same principal and women with thinner eyelashes continue to use that product), use your common sense before you decide that this is going to be the answer to your balding problem.

Another point is to understand exactly what it is that youre buying. If you pay close attention to some of the advertisements, you still end the session knowing that the company is touting a cure for balding but have no idea what that cure is. If you hear an advertisement that catches your interest, be sure you know some details about the product. If you dont understand, ask. Any company that isnt willing to answer your questions is probably in the midst of a scam that wont work anyway. Also, dont settle for techno-babble as an answer. Be sure you understand. Dont be afraid of sounding stupid when searching for answers. Its going to be worse if you pay $99.95 for this product that turns out to be tufts of hair and a bottle of super glue.

Surgery for balding is a pretty dramatic step. If youre thinking of taking that step, find a reputable company to perform the procedure. The process has come a long way over the past few years, but you dont want to pay for a transplant only to end up with tiny rows of hair that look like a dolls head.

Theres no doubt that balding can be detrimental to self-esteem. Confidence can plummet with balding and finding a product that helps reverse that is vital to some people. The important part of this equation is to figure out why you want to address the problem and the lengths to which youre willing to go. With some careful evaluation of the products and procedures available, youre sure to find something that works with your lifestyle. But for some people, finding the self-confidence to simply go on is the more viable solution to balding.

What Does Hypoallergenic Mean Anyway?

The word hypoallergenic is a term that probably most of us have run across. It is used in advertising and placed on product labels of shampoos, moisturizers, make-up, and even jewelry. Most people think it means that a product that is hypoallergenic wont react with their allergies. But is this really what it means?

Cosmetics advertisers first used the word in the 60s. It comes from the Greek prefix hypo, which translates to below or less. So the word translates to less allergens. Since its inception it has been widely adopted and used by advertisers, manufacturers, and marketers to sell products that claim to be gentler on the skin than other products similar to it. But is this really true?
The American Food and Drug Administration has stated, Hypoallergenic cosmetics are products that manufacturers claim produce fewer allergic reactions than other cosmetic products. Consumers with hypersensitive skin, and even those with "normal" skin, may be led to believe that these products will be gentler to their skin than non-hypoallergenic cosmetics. There are no Federal standards or definitions that govern the use of the term "hypoallergenic." The term means whatever a particular company wants it to mean. Manufacturers of cosmetics labeled as hypoallergenic are not required to submit substantiation of their hypoallergenicity claims to FDA. The term "hypoallergenic" may have considerable market value in promoting cosmetic products to consumers on a retail basis, but dermatologists say it has very little meaning.
The FDA attempted to put regulations on products that claimed to be hypoallergenic in 1974. It stated that a product could be labeled hypoallergenic only if studies were conducted on human subjects and it showed a significantly lower reaction to allergies than products not making the claim. It then said the companies had to conduct these tests on their own and (most importantly) at their own expense. This of course caused major problems and companies immediately began lawsuits against the decision, claiming that the tests would pose an undue economic burden on them. The two biggest challengers of this attempt at regulation were Almay and Clinique, two manufacturers of hypoallergenic cosmetics.
The FDA tried again to regulate the use of the word on June 6, 1975 by still requiring companies to do scientific studies but the procedures for the tests were changed to reduce the cost to the manufacturers. This still didnt sit well with the companies who apparently wanted no regulations on what they were producing. Cosmetic companies challenged the FDA decision in the U.S. Court of Appeals, which ruled that the regulation was invalid. The court said the FDAs definition of hypoallergenic was unfair because a lack of evidence that consumers perceived the term in the way it is described by the organization. The result? Manufacturers can continue to advertise and label their products hypoallergenic without any kind of regulation or standard set forth by the government. Consumers have no assurance that a product labeled hypoallergenic is any less reactive than any other product. Theoretically, a company could put out a product that is hypoallergenic that is full of toxins and allergens.
The one small victory that the FDA seems to have had is that at least now manufacturers are now required to put the ingredients on the labels of the products so that consumers can avoid substances that they know they are allergic to or have had problems with in the past. As consumers, we must be aware of ingredients in the products we use because apparently the companies who make them arent very concerned about our health over their profit margins. There is no doubt that some products out there that claim to be hypoallergenic actually are, but if you are a smart consumer and concerned for you and your familys health, youll do the research yourself and not rely on these companies claims. Hypoallergenic? More like hypohonest.

Well now you can relax with 2 great looking hairstyles you can create without spending much time.

Fast Forward Curl

This sophisticated looking style is quick and easy.

Begin by making sure you have everything handy: a blow dryer and light hand-held diffuser, a small barreled curling iron, misting bottle (if you have natural curls), curl enhancing balm or mousse (if you need it), and a non-stiffening hair spray.

1. Apply the curl enhancer / mousse to help enhance any natural curl. If you have a lot of natural curl, a misting bottle might be enough.

2. Gently untangle your hair and create a part in it.

3. Air dry your hair about 80% (use a towel if you are in a hurry).

4. If you have a lot of natural curl, begin scrunching your hair with your fingers (misting frequently if you are using water).

5. If you are using a blow dryer, push your fingers into the hair to lift at the roots.

6. To add more volume, dry your hair upside down while continuing to scrunch with your fingers.

7. If you have less natural curl, use a small barreled curling iron.

8. Once you have it the way you like it, spray with a non-stiffening hairspray.

The Messy Up Do Hair

A popular hair style that is quick is the trendy messy up do. To accomplish this look:

1. Brush out your hair to remove the tangles.

2. Pull some of the hair up from the front of your face and secure it with a covered ponytail holder.

3. Cover the holder with a hair clasp.

4. At the nape of your neck, gather your hair into a loose ponytail and hold it in place with a hair tie.

5. Twist the ponytail up to the crown of your head and secure the twist with long hair pins.

6. Leave several (however many you like to see) of the ends of the twist loose and arrange them as you like.

7. Pull some of the whippy ends loosely around your jaw to soften your jaw line.

8. Hold the do in place with a non-stiffening hairspray.

Practice

Practicing these and other styles will allow you to change hair styles quickly. Before you know it, you will be able to race in the door, change hair style, and dash back out to your next appointment looking fresh and stylish in a matter of minutes.

To give a different look to these styles, change the color, size, or style of pins you use; also vary the other accessories. In the same amount of time, your hair style can look new and different.

Memorize these and other quick hair styling methods, so that you can look your best without spending a lot of time on your hair. Practice is the key that will allow you to quickly create hairstyles in minutes that are fresh and stylish every time.

The Motivation for Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery has become increasingly popular over the years. So, why is this and what is motivating people to pursue it?

Over 14 million pursued plastic surgery in 2005. Why? The reasons are different for many people, but a few common ones are consistently sited.

In the past, we were pretty much stuck with what we came into the world with at birth. For many people, this meant living with body aspects that drove them nuts. Bumps on the nose, flat buttocks, pockets of fats that no amount of exercise addressed, small breasts and so on are all areas regularly cites as problems. In the past, these problems often were categorized as an issue of vanity, but wrongly so. Such perceived defects lead to problems with confidence, and confidence is a key to success in business and personal relationships.

In many ways, people get plastic surgery to boost their confidence in themselves. Regardless of what others think, a person can nearly be disabled by their physical performance. Research on exercise and diet regimens has shown that individuals that improve their physical appearance are much more confident and happy. It is a simple fact. If you were born with a hawk nose or some other issue, there simply is not any way to exercise it in to shape. So, should you be forced to live your entire life with something that bothers you? Of course, not. If enhancing your look makes you feel better, who is anyone else to judge you?

An additional reason people get plastic surgery involves the never ending fight with time. We age every single day, and our body shows it. As people age, they feel compelled to fight against the effects, an impulse that has existed throughout history. The simple fact is the world is a dog eat dog world, and personal image is part of the competition. It is a well settled fact that more attractive people do better. This is particularly true in the business world, and is reflected by the fact that more men are pursuing plastic surgery than ever before. In modern society, you are expected to live longer and work longer. Plastic surgery provides an option for remaining competitive on the all important image stand point.

Finally, some people pursue plastic surgery as a remedy to an unfortunate problem. Plastic surgery is undertaken after mastectomies for instance. Body abnormalities resulting from birth defects or trauma are also an area plastic surgery provides an answer for. Surely, nobody could object to such personal enhancements!

What is the motivation to get plastic surgery? Watch one of the reality shows in which plastic surgery plays a part. You will see the answer at the end of each show.

Balancing The Bustline, What To Do About Uneven Breasts

All women have uneven breasts, but as much as 45% have noticeable breast size difference.. This means a half cup size or more that is sometimes noticeable even under clothing. Lets first discuss some underlying reasons why this happens.

Body alignment. When the body is perfectly aligned, muscles and fat deposits tend to be dispersed more equally. Think how perfectly the body of a baby or toddler is formed. As we grow older, environmental stress, sleep patterns, posture, injury and disease can cause the body to go out of alignment. This results in over or under development of muscles, and uneven distribution of fluids and fat.

Right or left hand dominance. Most women will find that the larger breast is on the side of their dominant hand. This is due to the muscles of the arm and pectoralis majors and minors getting a larger share of the work load. Lifting, pushing, pulling, think of all you do in a days work. I knew of a young lady that worked at my favorite ice cream establishment that had to quit her job because of extreme over development from scooping the cold, hard ice cream.

Breast Feeding. No matter how hard we try to feed evenly on both sides either junior or mom tends to prefer one side over another. This can result in uneven breasts even long after the breast feeding has ceased.

And sometimes it just happens.

If you suspect alignment issues, visit a chiropractor and find an exercise program that carefully balances the whole body. If you believe that a dominant side is to blame, try doing more with the opposite side to balance the muscle development. Sometimes uneven breasts will balance out with time. If it is something else, you can either try enlarging the smaller breast or reducing the larger breast. This can be done effectively without surgery and for a minimal price.

Enlarging the smaller breast without surgery may take several weeks. You will see faster results with reducing the larger breast, which can be done in just a couple of weeks. This is done by doing a body wrap on the larger breast only. You can get it professionally done from an experienced esthetician or you can do it on your own at home.

There are several excellent body wraps available for home use . There are the oil based wraps that use essential oils as detoxifiers and are very effective. One that I recommend is an aloe based gel with herbs. To use, the skin should be clean with no residue from bar soaps or moisturizers to interfere with the absorption. Warm the area to be treated to open the pores and allow the gel to penetrate faster. This can be done in a warm shower or you can use a warm moist towel. Apply the gel and wrap the breast loosely with plastic wrap. This is to hold in the heat and keep the gel moist. You can put on your clothing and go about your business or just relax for 45 to 60 minutes. Then remove the plastic and rub any still moist gel into the skin. What this does is to help detoxify the tissues, and move fluid into the lymph system. Drinking plenty of water after the treatment will help to flush out the toxins.

After only a couple treatments to the larger breast you should be able to see significant difference in size. The breast are very responsive to this type of wrap so be careful. Sometimes the results arent noticed for a day or two so never do more than two treatments a week so as to carefully monitor inch loss.

Pamper Yourself - You Deserve It

Everyone, including busy moms, need to take some time to pamper themselves every now and again. After all you need to take care of yourself in order to be able to take care of others.

Have a mom's lunch out once in awhile. Get together with friends and relax while dining. If babysitters or money is in short supply take turns hosting the mom's lunch and maybe some older siblings can help keep an eye on the little ones.

If you have children that nap don't be afraid to use that time to take a nap yourself once in awhile, or even all the time if you need it and can get away with it.

On the occasions when you are going to get your hair done or a manicure make sure dad is home to watch the kids so you can really enjoy the pampering.

Trade babysitting with a friend in order to give you each a night out with your husband.

After the kids are in bed forget the laundry and dishes once in awhile and take a long hot bath if you want. You can even throw in some homemade bath salts or bubble bath if you like.

Treat yourself to a homemade facial occasionally. You can easily mix one up with the ingredients in your own kitchen. Here is one of my favorites. I take a tablespoon or two of honey, mix it with 3 or 4 tablespoons of oatmeal, then I add in the ripest banana I have and bingo I have made my own homemade beauty recipe that makes my skin look and fell great. (It lasts about a week in the fridge by the way).

So go ahead and indulge yourself a little bit occasionally, you will be a better mom for it.

What is effective Cellulite Treatment?

First off let me start by saying, no one is cellulite free. We all have a certain amount of cellulite underneath our skin. Of course some do have more then others, but it's a natural thing for us to have some. In a nut shell cellulite is simple fat deposits held in pockets just below the skin. The form of lipids (fats) below the skin aren't much different then those found elsewhere in the body, how ever it's because they are close to the skins surface that they cause the negative appearance.

So what can you do about cellulite?

Exercise is a viable option for many. Partaking in cardio activities several times a week will help burn fat, and tone the leg muscles. While this method will work for many, often sometimes some women need more then just exercise to help rid themselves of cellulite.

Next on the list is the numerous medical procedures we can have done. From liposuction too vacuum and roller techniques some of these processes can be effective, how ever painful, costly, and have some nasty side effects. For some people this is the only avenue they evaluate for treating cellulite, but they're skipping over what really should be the first attack on cellulite.

Cellulite Treatment Products

With our aging population, cellulite treatment has been receiving more and more attention from cosmetic and supplement manufacturers. Our population is becoming more affluent, and therefore looking for more alternatives then just surgery and exercise to solve cosmetic issues such as cellulite. Hence there has been a dawn of a range of cellulite treatment products.

While like anything new some of these cellulite treatment products work better then others. It's important to do your homework prior to trying one out. While there is minimal if any side effects it's still important to not waste your time on something that isn't going to provide you with results.

The majority of these cellulite treatment products a comprised of natural ingredients. Most work on a basis of shrinking the cellulite molecules, or using some sort of ingredient to speed up the burning of fat. Both of these methods work well, and take next to no time on your part to apply the product. For those of us that don't have the spare time in our hectic schedules to exercise several times a week, or drastically change our lifestyles, an cellulite treatment product is the best option for ridding ourselves of that pesky cellulite problem.

Natural Treatment for Serious Skin Care

Believe it or not, your skin is the biggest organ of the human body. The principle purpose of your skin is to protect your body from foreign agents. The skin is the first line of defense against disease and infection. It is also the skin that gives us protection against the sun.

However, it is also the skin that first betrays the effects of aging. Skin ailments such as psoriasis or dermatitis can be irritating and make our lives miserable. While we never needed things like wrinkle creams or moisturizers when we were younger and our skin more resilient, the fact is that some degree of skin care is inevitable as we age.

But skin care treatment is also necessary because of factors unrelated to our aging skin. Dry skin is caused by a number of conditions and therefore its treatment options will depend on the actual cause. Here are some causes of dry skin:

Medication Side Effects

As a society, we have increasingly become dependent on medication for things like high blood pressure, tension headaches, and even depression. Skin care treatment for dryness may very well be necessary due to some side effect of your medication for a completely unrelated condition. For this reason, you always want to monitor any potential skin irritation immediately after starting any new medication. If you already have dry skin and cant remember whether or not it was a problem before starting your medication, you may need to consult with your physician and discuss an alternative medication in order to rule out side effects as the cause of your dry skin.

Poor Nutrition

Skin care problems are often the result of poor nutrition. Our bodies require a delicate balance of nutrients in order to keep everything functioning properly, especially the skin. Vegetarians and vegans often run into dry skin issues as a result of not consuming enough animal fats in their diet. A vitamin B12 deficiency will cause your oil glands (sebaceous glands) to function improperly, generally leading to acne.

Basically, any attempt to address a skin care issue (be it oily, dry, or even itchy skin) should begin with a close look at diet. Dermatologists can best assess potential diet-related skin care problems and recommend corrective measures to naturally restore skin vitality. However, here are some foods to avoid where possible in order to keep your skin as healthy as possible:

fried foods (chicken, French fries)
processed sugars
caffeine, coffee, tea, soft drinks
high fat dairy products like milk or cheese (consuming low fat varieties of milk and cheese may not be great, but they are better for your skin!)

Now the best thing that you can ingest for improved skin care is water. Thats right, water. Water naturally removes toxins from your bodyso the more you drink of it, the purer your body will be. Drinking lots of water is especially good for people with acne problems and it will also help reduce the onset of wrinkles.

Skin Care Problems Due to Sebaceous Gland Problems

If you have ever been to a dermatologist because of acne problems then you are probably very familiar with sebaceous glands. Because the skin needs to be lubricated, it is covered with oil secreting glands known as sebaceous glands. If these glands become clogged with dirt, then bacteria begin growing inside and a pimple is the result. However, sebaceous glands can either become clogged and dry skin is caused or they can produce too much and cause oily skin. More often than not, problems with the sebaceous glands are due to poor diet and can usually be corrected rather easily.

Skin Care Problems Due to Diabetes

Believe it or not, even diabetes can cause you serious skin care problems. A person with diabetes has trouble regulating the blood sugar levels. When there is an excess of blood sugar in the body, the excess must be absorbed. To do this, the body uses a lot more water than normal and that can lead to dry skin.

Skin Care Treatment for Dryness

While diet must always be part of any skin care treatment regimen, it is just a simple fact that our bodies will need more help as we age. For this reason, a moisturizer of some sort will ultimately be needed. To this end, it is HIGHLY recommended that you use a natural skin moisturizer.

Moisturizers using natural ingredients are far less likely to cause the irritating side effects mentioned earlier. Synthetic ingredients are often less expensive to use in moisturizers but they are not the best skin care option because the body is less receptive to them. Natural ingredients, on average, cause fewer side effects and are therefore better where skin moisturizers are concerned.

Skin Care for Wrinkles

Wrinkles are probably the biggest cause of all skin care treatments in the United States. As a person ages, the skin naturally becomes less elastic. As a result, fine lines begin to form on the face which ultimately become the wrinkles we hate so much. There are two main skin care strategies when it comes to wrinkles: affect the muscles that reveal the wrinkles or fill in the skin so the wrinkles are less noticeable. The first strategy involves Botox and the second Collagen injections.

Botox Skin Care

A person is actually having a strain of Botulism injected in their face when they opt for Botox skin care treatment. Botox actually interrupts the transmission of nerve impulses to the muscles that reveal our wrinkles. It may sound radical, but these injections do actually reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the face for a significant period of time. Now these injections can be costly and they must be repeatedbut they are generally affective.

Collagen Injection Skin Care

Many people have a serious misperception about collagen injections. The perception is that collagen is a form of fat that is injected into your face to fill in the lines caused by wrinkles. Actually, collagen is an effective form of skin care treatment for wrinkles not because it is fatbut because it is protein. In fact, collagen is a special protein that helps cells and blood vessels connect to one another. When this happens, the wrinkles fade because the collagen helps the skin to rebuild in areas where wrinkles form and actually fill in the lines. Again, collagen treatments tend to work but they also are expensive and need to be repeated.

Natural Anti-Wrinkle Creams

A cheaper, but slower, alternative to expensive skin care treatments for wrinkles is a simple cream. Anti-wrinkle creams work to rebuild the skin texture and helps with the elasticity over time. However, unlike Collagen or Botox injections, anti-wrinkle cream skin care treatment is only applied to the skin surface. This is why it takes so much longer. Still, an anti-wrinkle cream is a cost-effective and non-invasive treatment for wrinkles that does work if given enough time. Again, in order to reduce possible side effects, stick with creams that use natural ingredients as they will react better with your skin.

How to Become Top Fashion Designer

You know you're destined to be a fashion designer if you: a) spent most of your childhood making clothes for your Barbie dolls instead of playing with your friends; b) read fashion magazines instead of your school books; c) ran a boutique out of your basement at age 10. In other words: if you want to be the next Yves Saint Laurent, it helps to be completely and utterly obsessed with fashion.

However, there are many aspects of the profession. Working as a fashion designer can just as well mean supervising a design team at a sportswear company as producing a label under your own name. Although the former career may not seem as glamorous as the latter, it certainly will make your life less stressful. To create your own label takes a lot of time, dedication and hard work. Not to mention living just above the poverty line for several years.

Choosing a strategy

There are as many different ways to embark upon a fashion career as there are styles of design. Ralph Lauren's Polo empire was founded on a small tie collection that he sold to Bloomingdales. Helmut Lang decided to open his own clothing store when he couldn't find a t-shirt that he liked. Michael Kors built up a network of customers by selling clothes in a trendy NYC boutique. However, most people find that the best foundation for a design career is to get a fine arts degree in fashion at a prestigious school. Besides teaching you the craft, a good school will also add credibility to your resum. "We live in a brandname society, and having the name of a good school behind you really does help," says Carol Mongo, Director of the Fashion Department at Parsons School of Design in Paris.

Applying to a school

There are a lot of colleges that have fashion programs, but only a handful has the kind of reputation that can really push your career. It's hard to enter these schools as competition is high, and they tend to be very selective. You apply by sending a portfolio of drawings of your designs. "We can't teach you how to be creative you have to bring your creativity to us and let us lead you on your way," says Carol Mongo. She recommends students to get some sewing experience before they apply. Drawing is also an important skill for a designer it is the way you communicate your ideas. In order to build an impressive portfolio it's a good idea to have some experience in sketching; taking art classes will help you understand form and proportion. But you don't have to be an expert drawer to get accepted to a school. "The most important quality that we look for in our students is that they are truly passionate and exuberant about fashion," says Mongo. "If you have wonderful ideas but can't draw, there are always ways to get around it. You could for example put your designs on a mannequin and take pictures of it."

What school will do for you

Most fashion programs are three to four years long. During that time you will take fine arts classes and study drawing, color composition and form. You will also learn pattern making, draping and cutting techniques. One of the most important advantages of design schools is that they work really closely with the industry. Parsons, for example, have "designer critic projects" where successful designers like Donna Karan and Michael Kors work directly with the graduating students. Ambitious students also have the chance to win prestigious awards and grants, which bring them a lot of attention as well as financial support. One very important event is the fashion show at the end of the last semester, when graduating students show their collections. A lot of important people from the fashion industry attend these shows to scout new talent. It's also an opportunity to be really outrageous and get noticed by the media. Hussein Chalayan, for example, became instantly infamous when he showed rotting clothes that he had buried in his backyard for his graduation show at Saint Martins.

Alternative routes

"Let's be realistic," says Carol Mongo at Parsons, "School's not for everyone. If you're just looking to get a job in the fashion industry not a career as a designer you probably don't need to go school." If you want to work as a seamstress or a patternmaker, the best thing is probably to apply for an internship at a fashion house and work your way up. However, there are many examples of famous designers who started out as interns with no formal training. For example, Dior's brightest new star, men's wear designer Hedi Slimane, had a degree in journalism when he started working with men's wear designer Jos Levy. Balenciaga's Nicolas Ghesquire is another example of a brilliantly successful designer who learned the jobs hands-on, as an assistant at Jean-Paul Gaultier. Usually, you apply for an internship by sending a portfolio to a fashion house you're interested in. But it's a good idea to call them up beforehand to see exactly what they need. It's also important to note that competition is fierce, and unless you have personal connections, it's very difficult to get an internship without an education.
There are also designers, like Luella Bartley, who started their own business after working as stylists for several years, thus building an industry network as well as a good marketing sense.

Understanding the business

Unfortunately, it's not enough for a designer to be creative; you also have to have some business sense. As fashion gets more and more corporate driven, it's important to be aware of the business climate and understanding the mechanics behind it. By religiously reading trade papers like "Women's Wear Daily" you will get a lot of valuable information. If you want to run your own company, you need to be extremely organized and learn at least the basics of economics. A lot of fashion schools are currently increasing business classes in their curriculum. "Our students have to be smart enough to know how to negotiate a contract, or to pick a business partner," says Carol Mongo. It's perhaps telling that many of the designers that are really successful today, like Calvin Klein or Tom Ford, are involved in every aspect of the business from licensing strategies to ad campaigns to actually designing the clothes.

Love the Skin You're In!

Your skin is the body's largest organ. It weighs between two and four kilos (or 4 and 8 pounds), covers between one and two square metres (9 to 36 square feet) and completely renews itself every seven to ten weeks, with approximately five million dead skin cells rubbing off on a daily basis.

Your skin reflects your state of health and your biological age, being soft and smooth when well-cared for, or dry and flaky when taken for granted. To be the proud owner of beautiful, soft, young-looking skin, you need to take care of it. When taking care of your skin, it's vital that you take care of the part of you that everybody sees - your face and neck.

The absolute golden rule, before you start using products on the delicate skin of your face, is to determine your skin type...

Normal and combination skin

Slight oily sheen in the T-zone area
Drier cheek area
Occasional pimples and spots

Dry and sensitive skin

Fine, dry lines around the eyes and mouth, dehydration lines on fact
Cheek area is dull, dry and taut
Skin that's very sensitive to sun, wind and pollution

Oily skin Oil sheen in T-zone area and on cheeks Enlarged pores and blackheads evident Frequent pimples and spots

So, how can you help keep your skin looking and feeling young?

3. Lack of sleep

4. Stress

5. Prescribed drugs

6. Excess coffee and tea

7. Alcohol consumption

Thanks to technological advances, experts in dermatology have been able to observe the effect that our diet has on our skins texture and appearance.

Many recent studies in dermatology confirm that the most significant factor in skincare does not only depend on the cosmetics that we apply (which, of course, do make a difference) but also largely on our diet.

Sowhich diet should we implement to look great?

WATER
Our body is 70 percent water; therefore, its logical that any lack of sufficient water intake will affect our appearance.

Thats why drinking water is undoubtedly the easiest and most efficient way of preventing the signs of aging, maintaining the skin smooth and the body healthy.

HOW DOES WATER AFFECT OUR SKIN?
Water eliminates the toxins in our body that are daily stored up through contact with pollutants, tobacco smoke, stress and other sources of free radical formation. Concretely, free radicals are the principal cause of skin diseases and premature aging.

Water not only gives skin a more youthful appearance but also eliminates all of these elements, which cause the appearance of acne. Acne is formed by the accumulation of bacteria, oil, dead skin and dirt on the skin. Even for those with oily skin and problems with acne, water is needed to wash away both internal and external impurities.

Additionally, water helps vitamins and nutrients to easily flow throughout the body. In particular, it collaborates with all of the bodys organs to distribute vitamins E, C and B12, which help maintain the skin smooth and young.

HOW MUCH WATER DO I NEED TO DRINK DAILY?
Normally its recommended that a person drink at least a liter and a half of water, although many dermatologists recommend increasing the dose to two or three daily liters.

WHEN IS IT ESSENTIAL TO DRINK WATER?
Its very important to drink and recuperate lost fluid after exercising or sunbathing. Dont forget that water is good not only for your organism but also for your outward appearance.

WATER INSIDE AND WATER OUTSIDE
When cleansing facial skin or the body, its best that the water be lukewarm. Very hot water can dry out the skin excessively, but at an adequate temperature, its cleansing power is enormous.

BEAUTY TRICK
Drink water in the morning; it will help eliminate a puffy or swollen face.

Who would have thought that water would end up being one of the most relevant beauty secrets in the new millennium?

Skin Care - What Are Lasers?

Lasers are heard in every context of skin care now. Whenever you think of any skin procedure, you think of laser, when you think of hair removal, again laser. What are lasers? How are they so effective? Let us find out.

Lasers- what is that?

The full name of lasers is- Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. In lasers, the light has a single wavelength and does not get scattered. You can focus this very high energy light on any object. If you put on a torch at night, you will find the light scattering in a circle. In laser that does not happen. Light travels in a straight line without any scattering and carries very high energy.

Skin Care- How lasers are used?

Lasers are used for their high energy and focusing ability. While performing laser resurfacing of face, the surgeon can burn layer by layer of the skin with precise control. As the laser burns away the skin, there is no bleeding and control of contouring is very precise. Doctors can remove lot many surface damages with lasers.

Skin damage and lasers-

Lasers are used to treat blotchy spots, sun damage spots, and wrinkles of different depths such as crows feet, smokers lines, uneven pigmentation and many other facial aberrations. Non-ablative lasers are used to promote growth of collagen in the dermis and give you the plump look again. Lasers are of different types and before undergoing any treatment you must find out more about the laser that will be used on you, its side effects if any and the experience and ability of the surgeon who will be doing the treatment. in laser treatment a surgeons ability is very important to get results.

Simple Steps for Beautiful Hair

HAIR MAINTENANCE

There are a few things you can do on a regular basis that will improve the overall health and appearance of your hair, as well as a few things you can avoid. In general, heres a few standards:

Brush your hair: Yep, the good old fashioned hundred strokes. This stimulates blood supply to the scalp, removes dead skin cells from the scalp before they can get infected, and distributes sebum over the hair shaft for moisturizing and protection. Bend over from the waist and hang limply while doing some of the brushing. Use a natural bristle brush or other gentle brush. Be careful and dont hurry. Better to go slow and only get 30 strokes in, than go fast and risk breaking or pulling out your hair. Get into the habit of brushing your hair thoroughly before washing it.

Massage your scalp: Before you stop to groom and brush your hair during the day, make a point of doing a quick scalp massage first. Slip your fingers into your hair, and using just the pads of your fingers, massage in small circular motions over your scalp. Using your finger pads will keep you from breaking your hair, scratching your scalp and messing up your style too much. Then restyle, re-spray (if you use it) and go...

Break Day: Get into the habit of giving your hair a break once a week. It is not necessary to wash your hair every day (unless you are a teenager, have a dirty job or work up a real sweat every day). If you are over the age of 20, and do not have any rashes or infections (like dandruff), give your hair a break for a whole day. Pick a day where you normally do not go out, or just do housework and run errands. Do not wash with shampoo and do not heat style. If you just feel too grubby and must do something, after brushing your hair thoroughly to distribute the sebum, simply wet your hair, apply a little daily conditioner to the ends, rinse well, and then pull back into a wet look ponytail or bun. Give your hair a break from shampooing once a week, and whenever possible, from blow-drying and heat styling.

Conditioning Treatments: Unless you have very fine, limp hair, get into the habit of applying a deep conditioning treatment to your hair once a week. Deep conditioners are not the same as daily conditioners, and homemade preparations work really well. Coconut oil is especially good for hair conditioning. Brush your hair, wash it lightly, and then towel dry. Apply your deep conditioner and then wrap your head in a heated towel to open the hair cuticle and allow the conditioner to soak in. Leave for 10 minutes to half and hour. Then rinse thoroughly in warm water to remove the conditioner residue that remains, then cool water to close the hair cuticle. Rinsing your hair in cool water can be a little uncomfortable, but it can do amazing things for the appearance of your hair. It closes the hair cuticle close to the shaft, which increases shine and manageability, and helps to keep hair strong. A mixture of cool water and lemon juice is even better for shine and strength (a half of a teaspoon of lemon juice in two quarts of cool water is sufficient).

Daily Conditioner: Get into the habit of applying a daily conditioner to hair ends every time you shampoo. This will reduce slit ends, discoloration when coloring, damage when heat styling and reduce the need for frequent trims. Use a product designed for thermal styling if you frequently blow-dry, use a curling iron or hot rollers.

Haircuts: Get into the habit of getting your hair trimmed when it needs to be. Again, this reduces split ends and keeps excess weight off your hair (which can cause breakage). About once every 8 weeks is right for shoulder length or longer hair, once every 6 weeks for shorter styles.

Up-Dos: Yep, thats right if you have long hair and want to keep it that way - put your hair up when possible. Im not suggesting you look like an librarian every day, but one of the reasons that women grew such long beautiful hair back in the old days is because they wore it up all the time. The weight of your hair can stimulate the start of the telogen phase. When hair is weighed down and very long, it stops growing and falls out, or simply breaks off. Putting your hair up frequently will keep that weight off the root of the hair. You can pin it up gently with bobby pins or a banana clip when running errands, doing housework, cooking dinner, doing yard work, messing around on your computer, watching TV, etc. Now, this depends on your hair style and hair length. If you have a short hairstyle, this step is not only unnecessary its impossible. However, if you have shoulder length or longer hair, and want it to be as thick and healthy looking as possible, make it a point to put it up and keep the weight off your scalp. The other upside is that it will help keep the hair out of dinner.

How to Wash Your Hair

Believe it or not, there is a right way to wash your hair. Treat it like the finest silk! If youve ever made the mistake of running a pair of expensive silk hose through your washing machine, youll know what I mean.

Here a few tips for avoid causing any excess damage to your hair while washing it:

1. Let your hair hang naturally when you wash it; either standing in the shower or with your head leaning over the bath, or in a shampoo sink. NEVER NEVER NEVER pile it up on your head to wash.

2. Wet your hair with warm water (not hot) to prepare it for shampooing. Keep the pressure on the showerhead gentle enough to avoid excess water pressure on your hair.

3. Pour shampoo into the palm of your hand.

4. Work the shampoo into a lather in your hand, and apply to your scalp. Work the shampoo into your scalp all over your head by massaging with your fingertips (not your fingernails). Move fingers from one area of your head to the other by lifting the fingers and then placing them elsewhere on your head. Do NOT drag them through your hair. Remember, hair is the most vulnerable to damage and breakage when it is wet. If your hair is particularly dirty or oily, you can work the shampoo through to the ends. If your hair is very dry or processed, you may just want to wash your scalp, and let the shampoo pick up any dirt or oil on the ends as its rinsed out.

5. Rinse hair thoroughly with lukewarm water. Ensure that you allow it to hang naturally. You may spread it out gently with your fingertips if its long and needs extra help getting out the shampoo.

6. If you chose to use a rinse-out conditioner, this is the time. Unlike shampooing, apply conditioners to the ends of your hair, and if your hair is generally dry, apply the remainder on your hands gently to the roots. Repeat the rinse.

7. Towel dry gently. The new hair towel wraps are excellent, keep hair in place and arent heavy like a towel wrap so theres less risk of breakage to your hair.

8. Once hair is towel-dried you can apply a leave-in conditioner.

9. ALWAYS comb wet hair with a wide-tooth comb NEVER brush wet hair.

10. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER sleep on wet hair it is vulnerable when wet, and can break easily as you turn on your pillow. Even if it doesnt break, it roughs up the cuticle and makes it look dull.

11. Air dry hair whenever possible.

With just a little care and attention, you can have the lush and lovely locks you deserve. Treat your hair like the finest silk and it will reward you with shine, body and brilliance.

Do Those Anti-Aging Creams Really Work?

The best method of aging skin care is to start young. The effects of age on skin doesnt happen overnight, and actually starts occurring right after youre born. Actually, you could even argue that your skin begins to age the moment it is formed inside the womb. Although it seems to age all of a sudden for a lot of people, in a period of just a few years, the visible effects of aging skin are the result of a process that has been happening for as long as youve been alive.

Anti-aging creams are heavily marketed and advertised on television, with the promise of making the consumer look younger and reducing visible wrinkles on the skin. Traditionally, they have been targeted towards women, but products specifically targeting men are now common, often sold as part of collections of men's grooming and skin-care products by major brands like Zirh, Biotherm and many others.

This change may be due to the fact that many societies in recent years have seen an increased focus on young looks, including in men, and some men report that they feel it is easier for younger-looking men to get an attractive job than it is for older-looking men. Additionally, it has become more socially acceptable for men to be conscious about their looks.

There are a range of cosmetic 'treatments' for the appearance of wrinkles on the skin such as plastic surgery and botox injections. Advertising presents anti-aging creams as an alternative to these more costly and invasive cosmetic treatments.

No matter how old you are, its never too soon or too late to be worried about aging skin care. Your skin, being the outermost layer of your body, is the part of you that people see, and reflects your overall state of health and age. If you are concerned at all about how you appear, its therefore a good idea to take good care of your skin.

So the sooner the better with aging skin care. What causes skin to age is a few different things, but the major visible reason for aging skin comes down to damage done to the elastic proteins your skin has to keep it tight. What causes the damage is chiefly free radicals. What the heck are free radicals you ask? A free radical is just a fancy chemistry word for an oxygen compound gone wrong.

Another key form of aging skin care is to avoid tobacco and alcohol. Smoking anything, especially tobacco, is a great way to infuse your entire body with free radicals, and too much drinking will do the same.

The best ways I know for aging skin care are the above preventative measures, as these are the only real ways to keep young looking skin. Once wrinkles occur, you cant get rid of them without surgery, and aging skin care products are just different ways of covering them up.

October Is National Eczema Awareness Month. Skin Care Tips You Can Use

According to the National Institutes of Health, an estimated 15 million people in the United States are affected by eczema, a disease that causes dry, itchy and irritated skin. Thankfully, there is an increasing number of resources and products created to help those living with eczema.

One such organization, the National Eczema Association (NEA), has a Web site dedicated to promoting eczema awareness through research and education. One way they've spearheaded getting the word out about this common skin condition is by designating the month of October as National Eczema Awareness Month.

What Is Eczema?

Flare-ups of eczema result in a dry, red skin rash that is not only unsightly but can be unbearably itchy, embarrassing and difficult to hide. Typical symptoms of eczema include skin sensitivity, red rashes, severe itching and even dry, flaking patches of skin that can crack and bleed. Eczema can be isolated to one area or present on several areas on your body such as the hands, inner elbows and the back of knees.

Eczema often runs in families, and can be triggered by allergies, stress, irritating detergents, synthetic fabrics, and cold. While eczema usually appears during childhood, it can develop at any age. For anyone suffering from extremely dry skin or eczema, there are some tips experts recommend:

Avoid Sudden Changes in Temperature or Humidity: Changes in temperature can cause skin to flare, so steer clear of cold temperatures and hot water, which can strip the skin of moisture. Consider investing in a humidifier for the home, to keep air moist.

Moisturize Properly: Keep skin hydrated with a dermatologist-trusted moisturizer that's fragrance-free and specifically formulated for sensitive skin, such as Aquaphor Healing Ointment, which is a rich, nonirritating moisturizer that locks in moisture to the skin, helping to alleviate symptoms of eczema. To calm extremely dry skin, experts recommend the "soak 'n' seal" solution: Bathe in lukewarm water for about 15 minutes with a gentle, nonirritating wash. Immediately after, apply a moisturizer such as Aquaphor to damp skin to lock in lasting moisturization.

Steer Clear of Eczema Triggers: Minimize eczema symptoms by avoiding triggers that may lead to uncomfortable flare-ups, like excessive scrubbing and toweling. Also avoid scratchy materials like wool, harsh soaps, detergents, and environmental triggers such as pollen or pet dander.

Hirsutism: What Is It And How Can You Get Over It?

In the condition known as hirsutism, individuals will experience a larger than normal amount of hair growth on the body. While it can affect both men and women, it is usually ladies that will suffer more often. The hair is commonly found on the chest, on the face, on the stomach or the back. It will be dark, thick and coarser, in most cases, then hair found elsewhere. It is not a bad thing but it is uncomfortable and unwanted inmost cases.

Why Is It There?

Individuals who are dealing with hirsutism want to know first of all how it happens. In most cases, the problem for women is excessive levels of male hormones. It is important to understand that women have these hormones usually, but at much lower levels. When there are excessive amounts of them, specifically androgens, there are often results that are less than favorable such as with the occurrence of hirsutism. Individuals will likely have a deeper voice; they may have acne and menstruation cycles that are not balanced and regular. They may have more muscles than other women do. It is also important to point out that hirsuitism can also occur due to the follicles reaction to these excessive levels of hormone.

If you are taking medications such as birth control pills or steroids, the symptoms of hirsutism will also be noted in some women. Also, there are some cases in which women have the condition as a hereditary condition.

What Can Make Hirsutism Go Away?

- Overweight individuals often have the symptoms of hirsutism. If you are overweight, the best remedy for the condition is to actually lose weight. As you do so, your hormone levels will go back to a normal level.

- Depilatories are another option to use. You can use hair removal creams to help you as well. Make sure to insure you have no allergic reaction to these conditions prior to using them on large areas.

- If you pluck these hairs, they will likely come back faster. That is due to an increased amount of blood flow to the area.

- Bleaching products also work. Again, test for allergic reactions when using chemicals of any type.

- Electrolysis or laser hair removal are other options. Here, the follicle that produces the hair is damaged and this keeps the hair from re-growing. Although expensive, this can be a permanent solution to your condition.

- There are also a number of prescription medications that can help. Anti androgen medications will be regulated by your doctor.

The bottom line is that hirsutism is a condition that you can treat and you do not need to live with. To choose the right solution for you, consider your condition and severity of it. Also, find out from your doctor what is causing it as many medical conditions that can should be treated. Then, choose the method that fits with your preferences as well as your budget.

Oily skin care

To start the discussion on oily skin care, its imperative to first understand the cause behind oily skin. Put simply, oily skin is a result of excessive production of sebum (an oily substance that is naturally produced by skin). As is known to everyone, excess of everything is bad; so excessive sebum is bad too. It leads to clogging of skin pores, resulting in accumulation of dead cells and hence formation of pimples/acne. Moreover, oily skin spoils your looks too. So, oily skin care is as important as the skin care for other types of skin.

The basic aim of oily skin care is the removal of excessive sebum or oil from the skin. However, oily skin care procedures should not lead to complete removal of oil. Oily skin care starts with the use of a cleanser. However, not all cleansers will work. You need a cleanser which contains salicylic acid i.e. a beta-hydroxy acid that retards the rate of sebum production. Cleansing should be done twice a day (and even more in hot and humid conditions).

Most of the oily skin care products are oil-free; however, it is always good to check the ingredients of the product, before you actually buy it. This is especially important if a product is marked as suitable for all skin types, instead of oily skin care product. Oily skin care is also dependent on the degree of oiliness, if you arent too oily, so some of these suitable for all- type of products might be work for you too. For extremely oily skin, only oily skin care products are suitable. Your oily skin care routine can include an alcohol based toner (for an extremely oily skin). This can be the second step in your oily skin care routine i.e. just after cleansing. However, excessive toning can harm your skin.

The next step in your oily skin care routine can be a mild moisturiser. Again, the degree of oiliness of your skin will determine whether you need to include this in your oily skin care routine. If you do decide to include a moisturiser, be sure to use one that is oil-free, wax-free and lipid-free.
You could also use a clay mask (say once a week) as an oily skin care measure.

As far as the oily skin care products go, you might need to try out a few before you arrive at the one that is really suitable for your skin.

In case these measures dont give you the desired result, consult a good dermatologist for advice. He could prescribe stronger oily skin care products like vitamin A creams, retinoids, sulphur creams etc , which can help counter the problems of oily skin.

Little Changes that Can Make a Big Difference

Dietary Changes

Your body requires certain nutrients to rebuild itself. It requires certain enzymes, vitamins and minerals to ensure that the rebuilding process is done properly. There are a few small steps you can take immediately to improve the health and appearance of your skin and hair. Skin repairs itself at a pretty rapid pace, so you can expect to see improvements within a month of adding the following to your diet:

Vitamin/Mineral Supplement: Begin immediately by adding a good multi-vitamin/multi-mineral supplement to your daily diet.

Antioxidants: Add an antioxidant supplement (A, E, C, selenium or equivalent).

Oils: Replace your salad oil with olive oil immediately, and change your cooking oil to coconut oil. (Polyunsaturated fats like canola and soybean oil commonly used today oxidize at a lower temperature this means that they throw off free radicals at body temperature, which cause cellular damage and accelerate aging.)

Vegetables: If you arent already, add at least one very large serving of dark leafy green vegetables, one serving of yellow vegetables and one of dark red vegetables per day. This will add important enzymes, phytonutrients, minerals and fiber. The easiest way to do this is to insist on one large salad of romaine and RIPE tomato with carrots to nibble on the side and dont forget to use olive oil for dressing. A squeeze of lemon goes nicely with this, and the combination of olive oil and lemon helps balance liver enzyme function as well.

Eggs: Protein is vital to cellular regeneration. Although carbohydrates can give you energy, and in the long run your body can use vegetable proteins to synthesize human proteins, only eggs contain every single amino acid necessary to rebuild human cells. Unless you are allergic, add one or two eggs to your menu every day. You can hard boil and chop it over that salad.

Yogurt: In addition to the protein it adds, yogurt also adds calcium and important digestive enzymes to your diet. Add at least one serving of live-culture yogurt daily. Its cheap, it tastes good and its good for you what more can you ask for? Full fat yogurt is preferable, since the low-fat kind is usually filled with food starch for texture and adds empty calories. Avoid the kind with lots of added sugar if you can, since sugar has little to no real long-term nutritional value.

Hydration

Your body requires adequate water to move nutrients and enzymes throughout the body. One of the first habits you need to develop is drinking at least a 32 to 64 ounces of clean water daily.

Sleep

Although its hard to find, adequate sleep is one of the most important things you can do for yourself and your appearance. You body spends most of your sleeping hours regenerating itself, rebuilding cells, balancing hormone levels and brain chemicals. Adequate sleep will not only help you look good, it will help you feel good as well. Neurochemicals that control mood and pain levels are produced during sleep, which is why so many chronic pain patients are found to have an underlying sleep disorder. So, even if you are not the raving beauty you wished you were, proper mood can lead to proper perspective, and at least it wont bother you as much. There is, of course, no such thing as perfect, and theres nothing like a good night sleep to put those nagging doubts and insecurities into perspective.

Adequate Sleep: Make a habit of getting enough sleep. Most experts claim seven to nine hours per day is the required amount. Some experts say that setting the total amount of sleep to coincide with the natural 90 minutes per sleep cycles is best. This would mean either 7.5 or 9 hours of sleep per night. Five cycles would mean 7.5 hours, six cycles would be nine hours of sleep. Try experimenting with setting your clock for either 7.5 OR 9 hours, depending on your schedule, so that you can complete each and every sleep cycle naturally. On the other hand, if you find that 8 hours or 8.5 hours is what makes you feel best, by all means, do what works for you.

Napping: Make a habit of grabbing naps. Humans were meant to take naps. Thats why those of us who are permitted to live according to our normal biological cycle (babies, small children and the elderly) take naps. Humans are designed to nap during the afternoon. Current studies show a natural rise and fall of hormones that indicate a programmed nap time in the afternoon. That famous mid-afternoon slump isnt just lack of sleep at night, or a heavy lunch, or stress or overwork its your instincts kicking in and telling you to take a few hours of down-time. Take a nap during the weekend if you can. Instead of sleeping in on Saturday and Sunday, get up at your normal time and then take a two hour nap in the early afternoon. Your body will thank you. And hey, if all you end up doing is resting in a cool room with your eyes closed and clearing your mind, thatll help too.

Stunning Hair Straight From Your Kitchen

It's a fact that as the seasons change, so does our hair. Depending on your hair type and climate, your hair may turn oily or dry, dull or limp or your hair may begin to thin out a little. We're really no different than other animals in that we shed our hair in the spring and fall and it's not impossible that you may notice a few bare spots where you would normally have hair.

Never fear, your kitchen pantry holds several basics which contain the same active ingredients as many pricey salon hair therapies. These remedies are great if you develop a specific problem and don't have a product specially formulated for treating it. In many cases, these home ingredients work just as well or better than the best products you can buy. When you find yourself with one of the conditions below, instead of going out and spending money on a product you'll only need a few times, use the ingredients you can find in your kitchen to solve the problem and save a little time and money in the process.

Problem: Oily Hair
Solution: Mint
Why It Works: Mint is a natural astringent. For a quick detox, brew five mint tea bags in a pot and cool. Pour over hair as a final rinse after shampoo and conditioner.

Problem: Limp Hair
Solution: Rice
Why It Works: Rice protein expands hair, making it look fuller. Simply soak 1 cup of rice in 2 cups of water overnight. Strain and transfer the liquid to a spray bottle. Then mist on damp hair before drying.

Problem: Thinning Hair or Hair That Won't Grow
Solution: Basil
Why It Works: Basil promotes new growth by stimulating the scalp. Heat 1 Tbsp. of basil and 1/2 cup of olive oil in the microwave for 30 seconds. Let cool slightly and massage into scalp. Leave on for 15 minutes then shampoo as normal.
