Tooth Whitening Through the Ages

Tooth whitening has been an effect people have been seeking for hundreds of years. The glow of a smile from clean teeth was a symbol of health, wealth status, and family upbringing. Sometimes having a healthy mouth overshadowed tooth whitening, but soon enough it became just as important as having healthy gums and strong teeth.

The Egyptians, Romans, and even during the dawn of man, knew the importance of good oral health. By using chewing sticks, which were small pieces of sticks worn down at one end; this enabled them to scrub the particles off of their teeth after a meal. After all, these periods of the human race needed their teeth in order to survive. The nearest dentist was at least 2000 years away, so dentures were entirely out of the question.

The Middle Ages brought forth the legendary barber and his red and white striped pole, (which was brought forth by hanging blood soaked bandages and clean, white bandages outside to dry, then being wrapped together by the wind, thus forming a pole). The barber, at this time had a dual role of cutting peoples hair and pulling their teeth. This was the important time of tooth whitening because it lead to greater social standing and was a label to the outside world that you had enough to eat, in which case, others did not. So, the barbers role became to not only pull teeth, but to whiten them as well. He would file the teeth down and smudge corrosive nitric acid on them and in turn their teeth would have a beautiful luminous glow to them. However, the effect of this procedure led to the destruction of the enamel and then would lead to decayed teeth. Hopefully by this time they wouldnt have to rely on their social graces to get through life, but on their personality like the rest of us.

The nitric acid (although destructive) was quite popular up to the 1800s, until the Italians came across people with stained, but cavity-free teeth. This was due to the high fluoride soil content. Along with these scientists research and other scientists from around the world, fluoride was labeled to be an important factor in healthy, white teeth. In many parts of the world it was added to the drinking water, thus becoming available to everyone. Even those that were unable to purchase toothpaste or mouthwash. Thanks to this fluoride finding, this gave dentists more time to focus their attention on tooth whitening, which would prove to be more profitable.

To the present day, tooth whitening has become a booming business, with a variety of ways to achieve that radiant smile while satisfying all price ranges. Dentists today, speak more on preventative care in order to have white teeth, such as staying away from coffee, tea, tobacco, red wine, and even some medications. However, for those of us that need our daily cup of coffee and daily glass of red wine, there is a multitude of ways to getting your teeth whitened. You can do it at home by purchasing over-the-counter strips or by going to the dentist and receiving the latest and greatest procedure in tooth whitening (which luckily doesnt contain nitric acid anymore).

Tooth whitening is available to everyone in the world, and youd be surprised that some people (even to this day) still use chewing sticks. However, a radiant smile still means the same thing now, as it did then: health, wealth, and good family upbringing has been replaced with the importance of appearance.

Using Anti-aging Face Creams

There is a time in everyone's life when our growing age becomes a concern for us. This is the time when even a small hope seems like a lifelong promise and we tend to try out various anti-aging formulas.

The first visible sign of your passing age is your first laughter line i.e. more commonly known as wrinkle. Generally these signs are experienced in your 30s or if you are lucky enough then in your 40s. You can prolong your skin from aging by using appropriate treatments at an earlier age. This is the time when you search for an anti aging wrinkle cream.

You can use anti aging wrinkle creams even before wrinkles start to appear on your face. Even if you haven't yet cared for it, you can still do something about it. It is advisable not to ignore these symptoms. If you think that ignoring is a good option to tackle with wrinkles then you can't get more wrong.

In today's lifestyle the most inevitable sign of an aging skin is its appearance. With pollution levels rising to its extreme and harmful toxins in the air are hazardous to our skin. Acne, abrasions and other skin diseases are some of its harmful effects.

According to studies conducted by dermatologists, anti aging wrinkle creams have many nutrients and vitamins that help in slowing down the aging process. Also, you can avoid other harsh skin treatments if you use these creams.

There are many products in the market labeled as anti aging but you should choose them using little common sense. Don't get fooled by the marketing strategies which promise much and hardly give anything. Go by your instincts and choose wisely.

Health Spas- pure indulgence

Health spas are places where you can go to get a range of health treatments, intended to relax you and relieve stress. They are a modern phenomenon, and are often seen as a product of our high-stress lifestyles, with busy professionals paying large sums of money just to get away from it all for a few hours. However, that isnt to say that spas cant be very nice places to go, because they are.

There are lots of different kinds of spas: day spas (where you just drop in when you have an appointment) and resort spas (where you stay like in a hotel) are the most common, with others including spas on cruise ships and medical spas run by doctors.

Most spas offer a wide range of services, with some of the most common and popular being facials, saunas, massages, and various skin and body treatments. Some spas are devoted to a particular aspect of health, such as weight loss or the treatment of back pains.

When you choose a spa, you should make sure that you speak to other customers who have been there before. In common with much of the health industry, many spas can be somewhat disreputable, charging large amounts to stay and further large amounts for each treatment you take. Some spas take deceptive pricing a very long way, and will threaten you with legal action if you dont pay. This isnt to scare you away from health spas altogether, but simply to warn you to make sure to stick to ones that have a good reputation, where you know what youre getting for your money.

If you dont want to go to a full-blown health spa, though, there are plenty of alternatives. Most of the treatments offered at a health spa are offered by individual practitioners separately, and they are often better at what they do than the staff at a spa. Failing that, beauty salons can also be good places to go for many treatments.

Why Look For Honey In A Skin Lotion?

honey, skin, lotion, heels, cracks, aloe vera, vitamin e, bacteria

Why do people use a skin lotion? What are they trying to fix?

For some its just for the comfort level. They have dry skin or mild sunburn. The problem may be as simple as revitalizing the skin after washing the dishes. Others may have a more serious condition such as cracks in the skin of the feet or hands, acne, psoriasis or eczema.

The causes of the various skin problems can obviously be different in each case. Causes range from skin being dried out by sun, wind or water to poor diet or allergies. In more serious cases the best a skin lotion can do is help alleviate the symptoms. There are an endless number of skin creams and lotions available to you depending on what the problem is that you are trying to solve.

We all know the benefits of Aloe Vera and Vitamin E but how often do you hear of honey being used to rejuvenate or repair skin.

Honey by itself is an amazing gift of nature. It is wonderfully therapeutic when taken internally. A large portion of honey is made up of protein, with other nutrients, including carbohydrates, minerals, B complex vitamins (including bioflavonoids), and vitamins C, D and E. It has been used for centuries to promote internal and external healing. Used as a food it can give you energy.

Externally, it can be particularly useful. For starters it is a natural antiseptic. It also has anti-inflammatory and anti-viral properties. Another characteristic of honey is that it will attract and (retain) moisture. It also acts as an anti-oxidant.

Now odds are that most people are not going to walk around with raw honey coated on their face or hands. - But would be happy with a non-greasy lotion or skin cream.

For dry skin or sunburn a lotion with honey would act as a natural moisturizer. For mild blemishes such as acne or small sores the anti-bacterial characteristics would again promote healing. With something like cracked skin in the hands or feet these areas can have very minor bacterial infections keeping them from healing a honey lotion can help kill off infection and again promote healing.

As a little aside it wouldnt be harmful at all to put raw honey on an open wound probably better that hydrogen peroxide. Honey has hydrogen peroxide in it along with the other goodies. It will not only kill germs but promote healing.

So, including honey in a skin lotion will help moisturize, inhibit bacterial growth, help fight viral infection and can be helpful as an anti-inflammatory. With its many nutrients the addition of honey will help clear up minor blemishes such as acne or cracked dry skin like some people get on the heels of their feet or their hands and fingers.

Straighten Up, Curly!

It's hard to imagine the difficulties women went through to straighten their hair back in the "good old days." With no specialty tools available at the time, women had to use things like a clothing iron to get the desired look. Dangerous and damaging, but there was no other choice, then.

Today there are effective appliances and products that will help ease the transition from curly to straight.

Going Straight

Getting your hair straight is not a quick and easy task, especially if your hair is extremely curly. Thick or long curly hair can take hours to get right.

So, this is certainly not a quick style change to try before a first date.

But it is certainly doable. However, there are some steps you should take to make the process easier.

The Process

Begin by washing and conditioning your hair. Use a deep conditioner, otherwise straightening hair can leave it dry and damaged. Towel-dry your hair and apply a straightening gel. The gel will help prep your hair for the process. Allow your hair to partially air dry before bringing out the hair dryer.

Pin the top portions of your hair up on top of your head. Work just 1 section of your hair at a time. Use a brush (flat paddle or round) to pull a small section of hair straight while drying it with a hair dryer.

Repeat this process, section by section, until all of your hair is dry.

If your hair is very curly, you will probably see some frizz. Dont worry; this will go away when the process is finished.

You are now prepped and ready to straighten.

The Tool

The best tool for straightening curly hair is called a flat iron, which come in several different widths. The best one for our purpose is 1.5 inches wide. This is easier to work with and provides better control than larger models.

Most flat irons have multiple temperature settings. Hair types respond to heat uniquely, so you must experiment. Until you know otherwise, start with the lowest setting and work your way up in temperature until you get the results you want.

You can get one at most drug stores or beauty shops. You want a ceramic model for stubborn curly hair. Prices range from $30 to $200. Dont buy the most expensive flat iron at first. Sometimes the cheaper models work just as well.

The most important key to straightening success is good prep. With well prepped hair, any reputable flat iron should give you a smooth, frizz-free look.

Temporary Tattoos A Permanent Solution

These days, more and more individuals are deciding to permanently leave their mark - on their own skin. If done by a qualified tattoo artist, the risks may be minimal. Unfortunately for many, however, unsanitary equipment or later appearing infections are creating big problems for tattoo enthusiasts.

Not so long ago, temporary tattoos were something that was found in a bubble gum wrapper or in the toy section at the local retail store. Why? Because children loved to have their own tattoos, but only the safe kind that would wash away and cause no permanent change. Now, some adults are beginning to think that kids have the right idea. Temporary tattoos are no longer just for children and in fact are now often available as longer lasting, adult skin tattoos.

The one thing that all temporary tattoos have in common is, you guessed it, they are temporary. There is no risk of contracting an illness or the tattoo site becoming infected, which is a very promising thought to those who are health conscious. Temporary tattoos are not only safe, but they are easy to remove with nothing more than soap and water. This is a big contrast to the permanent images, which require medical attention for removal.

If an individual is almost certain that they wish to have a permanent tattoo placed on their body, they may want to try a temporary tattoo first. In order to find the right design and placement, some individuals are finding the temporary tattoos are a terrific way to experiment with various designs and areas at a very affordable price. Once a permanent tattoo is done, the only way to have it removed is through surgery. Rather than going through the process a dozen times before finding the perfect tattoo, some adults are deciding to try out a temporary tattoo and the conveniences of washing it away with a few swipes of the soap.

Quality temporary tattoos, in many cases, look exactly like the real thing. These can be found online or possibly at a tattoo parlor directly. Before purchasing a permanent tattoo, the customer should be certain that the symbol is one that will be admired for life. Some individuals tattoo the name of their significant other only to find that, years later, the relationship is over. Many people are staying away from personalization for this very reason, but others still celebrate their love by putting it in writing - literally. Whether or not a tattoo is personalized, the depicted image should be one that is special and meaningful so that it will always be treasured.

This article is to be used for informational purposes only. The information contained herein is not intended to be used in place of, or in conjunction with, professional medical advice or recommendations for tattoo placement. Before deciding on getting a tattoo or having one removed, the patient must consult a licensed medical doctor for medical advice and/or to determine the best course of action for his/her individual healthcare needs.

How To Make The Most Of Whats Naturally Yours - Enhancing Your Eyes With Eyeliner.

acne,acne prevention, prevent acne

The eyes are generally considered the most beautiful part of the body.

They are seen as windows to your soul, and very few people decline to comment on a pair of striking eyes. Fortunately, they are also the easiest of features to enhance. So read on and discover how to make those eyes really pop and catch attention.

When you are first learning how to apply eyeliner, it can be one of the trickiest tasks to master. But when it is applied properly, the overall effects can be absolutely amazing. Skillful application of different eyeliner can help make your eyes look more evenly spaced, thus giving a better balance to your entire face, and this is only one of the benefits. The following tips will cover several aspects of eyeliner, including how to chose the right eyeliner for your eyes, and how to properly apply it to your eyes.

Choosing the Right Eyeliner

Like all beauty care products, choosing the right eyeliner is simple if you already know the effects you hope to accomplish by wearing it. In addition to helping balance the face, eyeliner is also meant to give lashes more depth, and make them appear thicker than they really are. Although there are two types of eyeliner, liquid and pencil form, it is recommended to only use pencil form on the lower lids of the eyes. Eyeliner in liquid form is most effective when only used on the top lids of your eyes.

When choosing the color of your eyeliner, you should always chose a color that complements the eye shadow you are going to use, but be sure it is a color that is flattering to your natural eye color. With brown eyes, the darker colors of eyeliner prove to work best, and with blue eyes, the softer colors tend to be most flattering.

Pencil Form Eyeliner versus Liquid Form

As mentioned before, eyeliner comes in two forms, pencil and liquid. Pencil eyeliner creates a soft definition to the eyes, while liquid eyeliner tends to offer more precision, and a more dramatic effect. When trying to chose which form of eyeliner to use, keep in mind the overall look you hope to accomplish.

Pencil form eyeliner is more popular, in part because it is easier to use. Liquid eyeliner requires practice in order to apply it correctly.

How to Apply Eyeliner - the Basics

To apply eyeliner correctly, you need to maker sure you have applied all other make-up first. If you apply your other make up on top of the eyeliner, it not only takes away from the effects, but during the application process, your eyeliner could get smudged or smeared.

Once you have all your other make-up on, make sure you have a good mirror and appropriate lighting, then begin. In one smooth motion, draw a thin line from one side of your eyelid to the other, remaining as close as you can to your eyelash line. How thick you chose to make that line will have a bearing on your final results.

Eyeliner is an inexpensive addition to your collection of beauty care products and can show stunning results now you know how to catch attention and draw those admiring gazes.

Natural Home Treatment for Cellulite

CELLULITE

Cellulite is a skin condition that gives the appearance of small bumps and ripples under the skin. The bumps are caused by the underlying fat cells growing too large and stretching the natural fiber compartments that hold the skin to the underlying layers of tissues.

"Cellulite" is ordinary fat, but ordinary fat that affects the appearance of the skin. Strands of fibrous collagen tissue connect the skin to the subcutaneous layers and also separate compartments that contain fat cells. When fat cells increase in size, these compartments bulge and produce a rippled appearance of the skin.

Women tend to have cellulite more often than men because they have a vertical pattern of collagen in the underlying layer that holds the fat cells, and when the fat cells become very large, they bulge out of the chambers and appear as cellulite.

In men, the pattern of collagen is tighter, in a diagonal pattern, and they have thicker skin, so there is less bulging of the individual fat cells. Another factor in cellulite is high levels of estrogen, since this hormone has a direct effect on the holding capacity of fat cells through the increase of alpha-adrenoreceptors, the chemical doorways that tell your fat cells to hold on to their contents. Poor diet, bad circulation, and poor lymphatic circulation can all contribute to the appearance of cellulite.

TREATING SKIN WITH CELLULITE

There are several extra steps you can take for the treatment of cellulite. Consider your skin care regimen, and fine-tune it to meet the needs of skin that has a tendency to swell with fluids, store fat and have poor circulation.

Nutrition: Although cellulite is a skin condition, its closely tied to the storage of excess fat. If you are significantly overweight, you should certainly alter your diet. The dietary enzyme bromelain can improve overall circulation to your skin and adipose tissues by removing the buildup of fibrin on the walls of blood vessels. Treating cellulite requires a two-pronged approach one being the shrinking of the fat cells themselves, the second being the regeneration of collagen and strengthening of the skin outside of the swollen fat cells.

Cleansing: When cleaning your skin, use your wash cloth or loufah to massage the area where cellulite occurs. At first, use a circular motion and then a brushing motion upwards towards the bowels. This will improve circulation and edema, and help remove toxins and metabolic wastes out of the tissues and interstitial spaces around the collagen and fat cells.

Other Treatments:

- Dry Skin Brushing: Learn to dry brush your skin at least twice every day upon rising and before going to bed. Skin brushing provides many benefits in the treatment of cellulite. First of all, its exercise for you skin, and strengthens the underlying dermis and pattern of collagen in the subcutaneous layer. It stimulates the growth and repair of the tissues by increasing blood flow to the area. It also helps remove toxins and metabolic wastes out of the interstitial fluids surrounding the tissues for disposal. Dry brushing is good for you skin all over, but if you are suffering from spider or varicose veins, brushing these areas vigorously several times every day, first in a circular motion and then upwards towards the colon, can improve the appearance of cellulite.

- Hormones: Cellulite is often associated with the use of HRT and birth control pills. High levels of estrogen from these medications can cause an increase in the fatty tissues ability to store fats and cause them to bulge, pushing out the skin and causing cellulite. If you are using birth control pills for contraception, you may want to ask your doctor for a lower-estrogen dose formula or a non-hormonal form, such as an IUD. If you are on HRT, you may want to consider switching to a lower dose, adding progesterone cream, or using a weaker formula, such as an estrone cream.

- Habits: Get out of the habit of crossing your legs, knees and ankles. This reduces circulation and increases swelling. Try to keep moving regularly, neither sitting nor standing for long periods.

- Exercise: Regular exercise is necessary for the improvement of cellulite. Not only does it help reduce the appearance of cellulite by burning the fatty acids that are causing the cellulite. It also improves circulation and helps to remove toxin-filled wastes away from the skin. Take up a walking program, or sneaking in a set of exercises in the restroom during breaks.

- Body Wraps: Body wraps, both professional and homemade can improve the appearance of cellulite. Body wraps use a combination of minerals and herbs that stimulate the fat cells to release their contents, they absorb toxins from the skin and reduce swelling. Generally you will find stimulant herbs like kelp or algae that stimulate the fat burning process in the cells. You will find cosmetic clays that will remove toxins and wastes from the pores, and horsetail and horse chestnut that reduce edema (swelling) and provide minerals for strengthening the skin. These formulas are applied to the skin with the use of compression wraps. For recipes for doing home wraps, go to the Botanical Beauty Lab website.

- Massage: Massage, particularly the kind that improves lymph flow, is very good for reducing the appearance of cellulite. It improves the removal of metabolic wastes and toxins from the interstitial tissues around the adipose tissues, and gives the skin a smoother appearance. There are many professionals offering massage for cellulite, including lymphatic massage and endermology, but if that is out of your budget, you may want to try a home massage device. Many are available, from a simple round-prong hand tool to a powered massager that provides heat, massage and suction similar to the professional endermology machines.

SUPPLEMENTS FOR CELLULITE REDUCTION

Alfalfa: Alfalfa is a natural diuretic that helps balance the bodys interstitial fluids and reduces edema and swelling. Its also a phytoprogesterone, which helps balance the excess estrogen that can exacerbate cellulite.

Borage Oil: Borage oil contains high amounts gamma linoleic acid, which is an important fatty acid to the strengthening of cell walls.

Bromelain: Bromelain is a naturally occurring enzyme in natural foods that aid in the digestion of proteins. The consumption of bromelain aids in the removal of fibrin buildup in fine blood vessels. This improves and increases circulation to the skin, and aids in repair and rejuvenation.

Horsetail: Horse Chestnut herb contains high levels of the mineral silica, which is used in the repair and maintenance of skin cells.

Cider Vinegar contains an array of important enzymes and aids in balancing body pH. Its also a good source of potassium, which is necessary for fluid balance in the body.

Coconut Oil contains medium chain triglycerides which are easily absorbed and used by the body for fuel. It has the capability of stimulating the thyroid gland, which increases body temperature and metabolism and is known for improving the burning of excess fat.

Ginkgo Biloba is a natural blood thinner that increases the microcirculation to skin and fat cells.

Gotu Kolu is a natural source of caffeine. Caffeine stimulates the beta-adrenoreceptors on the surface of the fat cells to release their stores of fatty acids, aiding in the burning of excess fat.

Green Tea: Green tea is a mild stimulate that contains caffeine as well as powerful antioxidants that aid in the proper replication and repair of skin cells.

MSM: Is an important mineral that is necessary for skin cell repair.

EXTERNAL TREATMENTS FOR CELLULITE

Aloe Vera contains alatoin, which sooths and heals skin. It has been shown clinically to increase microcirculation of the skin and to speed healing of skin tissues.

Betonite Clay is a natural mineral clay that is known for its ability to absorb impurities and toxins from the skin through the pores.

Horsetail, ginkgo biloba, kelp and green tea also work externally and can be added to lotions or creams for massage into problem areas.

Many experts have recommended using coffee grounds as a scrub for cellulite prone areas. The grounds work as an exfoliant, as the caffeine absorbs into the skin and stimulate the beta adrenoreceptors in the fat cells to release their contents.

Dead Sea Salts and Kelp or bladderwrack contain powerful minerals that aid in the repair of skin cells as well as the mineral iodine which can aid in the metabolism of the underlying fat cells.

There are also many commercial formulas and methods for the reduction of cellulite.
Most contain caffeine or a similar chemical called theophylline or aminophylline.
Many also contain kelp, bladderwrack and other herbs mentioned herein.

Just remember that cellulite reduction is a two step process. The cause of cellulite is over-sized fat cells that have stretched out the collagen structure underlying the skin. The first step is to reduce bodyfat, and many herbs and nutrients both external and external can accelerate the process. The second step is to increase the strength of the skin and the collagen webs under the subcutaneous tissues. Skin and collagen require vitamins, minerals and fatty acids to rebuild themselves properly. Excess fluids can exacerbate the problem, so proper fluid intake and circulation is important. Drink plenty of fluids, and stay active to increase the circulation of the lymph system. With a little diligent effort the appearance of cellulite can be reduced.

Stand up tanning beds

What do you think of when you think of a tanning bed? Probably the old traditional shell style structure where a person lies down on one side of their body while getting tanned. However, there are other types of tanning beds - stand up tanning beds is one of them. As the name implies, you stand rather than lie when getting your tan. Are there any advantages to using stand up beds? Many people who tan regularly will tell you that yes, stand up tanning bed are far superior to a traditional style. Let's find out what are their reasons for saying so and if they are correct in making that statement.

Stand Up Tanning Bed Pros

When using a standing bed you can move more freely, for example you can raise your arms or turn around and bend freely. This gives you a more even tan all over. The lamps are also different; they have a special reflector that helps to spread all rays more evenly. So the claim that stand up beds produce better quality tan is definitely true.
Another benefit of stand up tanning beds that comes down to getting even tan is that there is no pressure points. Many people get less intense tan on the arias that touch the bed (in traditional old style beds). In a vertical bed there is no pressure points so the problem of an uneven tan is illuminated all together.
Stand up beds use much stronger bulbs. A bulb in a traditional tanning bed is about 100 watt, while standing up tanning beds use bulbs in the range of 160 watt. This gives you a stronger tan for the same amount of time spent in a session. As a result session in a stand up bed is shorter, which saves you time and gives you a much more even tan.
For many people hygiene is the main reason for using stand up tanning beds. In a stand up bed you don't have to touch the same surface that other tanners were touching and sweating on. People feel that this type of tanning beds is more sanitary. Actually, touching the surface of tanning bed is not so unhygienic. Salon tanning beds use very strong bulbs and UV light from them kills most bacteria. Also the law requires that salon tanning beds should be cleaned and disinfected after each use. However, if it makes you feel better, that you don't have to lie on the same surface as everybody else, than vertical tanning beds have one more plus side.

Stand Up Tanning Bed cons

The only real disadvantage of this type of tanning bed is that you can get tired easily. It might be quite boring to stand up while tanning. But it is really a matter of personal preference or your health condition.
Some tanners might tell you that since vertical tanning beds use stronger lamps, they are more dangerous than conventional tanning beds. This claim is not true. Yes, you get exposed to more harmful UVB and UVA rays than in a traditional tanning bed, but you tan for a shorter period. So at the ends the health risks are exactly the same for both types of tanning beds.

Tanning Bed Safety

When it comes to tanning safety, you should be careful no matter what type of tanning bed you use. Tanning lotion is an absolute must have for safe tanning and you should never go for indoor tanning without applying a lotion first. Another way to avoid health risks associated with artificial tan is to take only shortened sessions. If you protect your skin with a quality tanning lotion and dont tan for longer than necessary, you don't have to worry about skin related risks.
Stand up tanning beds definitely give you more even tan quicker than ever before. Other than that it is a matter of personal preference. You can't say that one style is safer than the other. So if you are thinking about trying a stand up bed go for it, and then you can see which style you like more and make your own decision.

Permanent, and Less Painful: Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal has increasingly shown itself to be a very popular cosmetic procedure. It is non-invasive, convenient, and fair less painful than some of the more traditional ways of permanently removing unwanted hair. Laser Hair removal is used to take away hair from those areas where it is simply unattractive to have. This can include chin, bikini area, armpits, back hair, or other areas, as well. The time of sticky, painful chemical applications is long gone. This procedure can be used for both facial and body hair.

The cosmetic process can take anywhere from only a few minutes to several hours. The time range varies based on the area of the body involved and the amount of removal. Laser hair removal is done by using a low-energy laser over the afflicted area. The laser energy passes through the patients skin, and is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle (roots). A certain percentage of the follicles are instantaneously, not to mention permanently, disabled with each treatment. In most cases, no anesthesia will be required, or even needed.

Benefits of Laser Hair Removal:
Laser hair removal is a gentle, non-invasive procedure that can take care of undesirable hair from any part of the body.
It leaves skin looking smoother and silkier, rarely with rashes, bumps, or other side effects.
Larger areas can be treated more efficiently because the procedure removes more than one hair at a time.
Minimum amount of discomfort.
Replaces waxing, electrolysis, and razors, all much more irritating and uncomfortable than laser hair removal.
Because it is so gentle, you can immediately return to a normal schedule.

There are still several important considerations that one needs to make before going in for laser hair removal. One is that this is not a one and done deal. Laser hair removal is an ongoing process that will require multiple sessions. Blonde, gray, and white hairs are less responsive than darker colors. Usually these can still be treated to some extent, but not always. If you do under go this treatment, there may be a slight reddening of the skin or minor swelling. Both of these are temporary. Your doctor may recommend various treatments or sunscreens: heed this advice.

Dont let the warnings scare you off: laser hair removal is one of the most gentle of all cosmetic treatments, and even the worst of the side effects are so minor as to be easy to ignore. If that annoying back hair or chin hair is getting you down, this is a treatment that may very well be worth considering.

Earrings -A Fashion Statement Of The Ages

An earring is jewelry worn on the earlobe, usually clipped to the earlobe or fastened through a hole made in the earlobe. This is the piece of jewelry that is first noticed when looking at a person. This piece of jewelry decorates the ear and adds to the femininity of a woman. They are worn by both genders but to a lesser extent by man. They give the finishing touch to beauty and make a fashion statement.

History of earrings dates back to 2500 BC. In those days, earrings were worn only by the nobility. In the middle ages, this type of jewelry had taken a backseat as more importance was given to very elaborate hairstyles and neck pieces. They did make a comeback, and the metals used in the making of earrings were so heavy that the weight of the earrings caused elongated earlobes.

All precious metals such as gold, silver, platinum, and silver are used in the making of this adornment. Materials such as plastic, glass, and beads were used too. Precious gemstones like ruby, sapphire, topaz, diamond, and emerald were mounted on to the precious metal, giving the earring a more colorful, dazzling, and exotic look.

These adornments are made in all shapes and sizes to suit all types of faces. There are dangling ones, hoops, studs, buttons, droplets, chandelier earrings and many others. There are earrings to go with evening wear, for business meetings, office and more elaborate ones for weddings and other functions etc.

It would be interesting to note that in the days of Christ, it was said that wearing an earring was a demonic act. In India, in the earlier days, the Yogis practiced splitting their ears and placing large heavy earrings made of horn or glass at the time of their initiation into the sect. All that sounds crude with the advancement of technology and ear piercing is no longer such a tortuous procedure and is almost nothing more than pinprick now.

People from most cultures believe in wearing earrings at a very early age. In many cultures, ears are pierced as soon as the baby is born. This jewelry have never been the prerogative of women alone, as men wore them in years of yore and now wear them as a fashion statement. They have become a unisex piece of jewelry. Today the trend of wearing multiple earrings at the same time is prevalent.

The popularity of earrings has stood the test of time. They can enhance ones mood just my making a person feel confident and great.

Why Does The Skin Age?

As with all our body organs, skin ages as programmed by genes. This is called internal ageing. Dry skin, age spots, white hair, hair loss, thin nails and other skin changes come purely due to age. Skin also ages by external factors. Sun is the main external factor that ages the skin. The sunrays consist of many light spectrums. Ultra violet rays damage the skin most. Both UVA and UVB are responsible for skin damage. Ageing due to sun is called photo ageing.

Sun-Sun breaks down the collagen and elastin in the skin. The skin loses its elasticity and firmness and develops premature wrinkles. Photo ageing depends on the skin color and the amount of sun exposure over the years. Dark colored individuals show less sun damage while fair skinned people show more sun damage for the same exposure. With rising age, the total sun exposure increases and its gives rise to not only age spots, but also more serious problems such as actinic keratoses and skin cancers. The only way to prevent sun damage is protection from the sun.

Gravity plays its part in skin ageing. As you know gravity pulls everything towards the earth. As we age, the effect of gravity becomes evident. The loss of elastin in the skin with ageing plays a role in this. With gravity, jowls form, the ears elongate, the tip of the nose elongates and other such changes take place.

Smoking- tobacco plays a major role in skin ageing. It is found that smokers form wrinkles sooner than non-smokers. Smokers also develop unsightly yellow hue to their skin color. Smoking brings about biochemical changes in body and that accelerates ageing of skin. By quitting smoking, this can be stopped to a certain extent.

Expressions of face- when we make facial expressions, we use facial muscles and the skin forms lines. With age, the skin loses its ability to spring back and lines form. With repetitive facial expressions, these lines become permanent. To avoid such lines and wrinkles, stop making facial expressions as much as you can and if you are doing facial exercises, be aware that the lines will form permanently.

Sleeping position- Sleep lines form over years depending on your sleeping position. If you sleep with face down on the pillow, you may develop wrinkles on your forehead. if you sleep sideways with your cheeks resting on the pillow, the wrinkles will appear accordingly. To avoid formation of sleep lines, change your sleeping position frequently. If you sleep with your face upward on the pillow, no sleep lines will form.

How to Cure Acne Naturally - 5 Simple Ways

Enlisted here are some ways on how to cure acne naturally. Its not most of the time that we have the budget for maintaining a clear and healthy skin. For some people, getting facial sessions or buying expensive anti-acne facial products are just a norm, but for some, its not. But one things for sure, acne outbreak can affect anybody. So for those who does not want to spend tons and tons of money just to maintain a smooth zit-free skin, follow these simple steps that would definitely make your appearance a la Hollywood star.

1. Use facial soaps specifically designed for acne. Nowadays, there are sulfur-based soaps that are made to heal and dry acne fast. Wash your face at least two times every day. First wash should be done in the morning when you wake up and second, at night before you sleep. No matter how tiring your whole day might have been, dont forget to clean your face before you snooze to unclog your pores of all the pollutants you faced. However, consistently washing your face every now and then can actually trigger the sebaceous glands to create more sebum, thus, making it more prone to acne outbreak.

2. Drink enough water every day. If possible, go on for a juice or water fasting. This is the easiest way on how to cure acne naturally. It is not really a hassle doing so. Offices and schools now have water stations so you dont need to carry a bottled one when you go to your place of work everyday. Drinking liquids is essential in everybodys over all health. It is also responsible for carrying toxins out of the body that causes pimple and other acne flare-ups. Although you might need a few trips to the washroom, it is actually worth it.

3. To cure acne naturally is as simple as not picking or squeezing your zits. It is really quite tempting but touching the affected area, especially you have unclean hands, can increase the production of sebum. Once a pimple or blackheads were squeezed, the membranes below the skin are actually ruptured making the sebum spread underneath the skin and causing infection.

4. Try to engage in activities such as yoga, gym trips on any form of exercise. You may eliminate toxins with these activities through sweating. Detoxification is the key. This is not a healthy way on how to cure acne naturally but would give you a fit and stronger body as well.

5. Change you pillow case after two days. Your pillow cover absorbs all the oil and dirt as you lay down on it every day. Keep you sheets clean to prevent reapplication of the grime and oil that would surely result to even more acne outbreak.

Acne is just like any other form of disease than can be cured without the help of medicines and drugs or expensive products for that matter. Just follow these simple ways on how to cure acne naturally and you are on to a clear and healthier looking skin.

Causes of Aging and Fixes

Women worldwide fear the thought of having to put up with the signs of aging upon entering their later years. What many don't realize is that there are simple things one can do to minimize if not outright prevent the unsightly signs of aging.

Aging (as research has indicated) comes in two distinct flavors - intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic aging refers to aging brought about as a result of heredity. Since this type of aging depends on our genes, it is often difficult to prevent.

Extrinsic aging is aging brought about by external factors. Such external factors could include sun exposure, tendency to perform certain behaviors (such as squinting), etc. Extrinsic aging, unlike intrinsic aging, can be prevented with some effort on your part.

Now that we're up to speed on the two types of aging, let's look into what we can do to prevent the latter type. First, one should maintain a diet that is low and fat but high in carbohydrates. To achieve such a feat, we recommend eating plenty of fruits and grains while also consuming optimal amounts of water (5-8 glasses).

Second, exercise should be a top priority to a person looking to preserve their beauty. We suggest you organize an exercise routine which you can perform on a daily basis. Most experts agree that a thirty minute workout is more than enough for the average person.

Finally, one should look into taking the appropriate supplements to keep looking young. Among these supplements should be vitamin E, A, and C. If you'd like further information on supplements, we recommend talking to your nutritionist.

We encourage and support those who've just started battling the unsettling signs of aging. It is our hope that you put forth your best effort to combat aging!

When It Comes To Skin, There Is Nothing To Hide!

There is no need to hide your skin…in fact, take a closer look. Though it seems that the only rational way to mask signs of aging is by slathering pricey creams and lotions endlessly on the skin, all you really achieve is the result of an empty promise. And let's face it, trying to hide your face from the crowd doesn't make anything go away.

There are many options available on pledging to help achieve younger-looking skin. Supplements, vitamins, lotions and potions line store shelves for the sole purpose of being tested by consumers in hopes of becoming rid of wrinkles. Why then does it seem that those stubborn wrinkles get worse with time, no matter the extent taken?

The answer is this: The skin is composed of its own hardworking ingredients that help keep it looking young and healthy. Unfortunately, with time, these ingredients slowly diminish and the barriers against the environment and aging break down, resulting in the effect of fine lines and wrinkles. It then becomes harder for the skin to fight new wrinkles and existing wrinkles become more visible. Coenzyme Q10 and creatine are two perfect examples of this. Both are found naturally in the skin and are responsible for keeping skin looking young and healthy. However, they too deplete with time. Thankfully, a line of products is available that effectively replaces these two essential ingredients.

The scientists behind Nivea Visage have developed a collection of products that are specifically formulated to give skin back the anti-wrinkle power it loses over time. It does it with a powerful formulation that combines coenzyme Q10 and creatine. These ingredients improve the skin's ability to fight new and existing wrinkles caused by age and sun damage.

So the next time you want to avoid showing your face…reach for a product from the Nivea Visage Q10 Advanced Wrinkle Reducer collection instead. You will realize it is better to assist the skin at something it is already a master at doing than hiding after all.

How Much Does Plastic Surgery Cost? Breaking It Down

Plastic surgery costs can vary widely from one surgeon to another. Several factors govern the cost of a particular plastic surgery procedure. A couple of major factors include the surgeons expertise and experience, and the length and complexity of the procedure. Moreover, the cost may vary from one clinical setting to another. A surgeon owning a state of the art clinic and wielding advanced equipment would charge more for a particular procedure, in order to cover the cost of his/her investments. The same procedure if carried out at a fairly average clinical facility might incur a significantly lower expense.

Whatever the cost, it should be disclosed and settled upon prior to the surgery. Some medical facilities tout attractive bargains, concealing certain costs in order to dupe prospective clients. Therefore, the patient must ensure that the cost agreed to covers the surgery, anesthesia, post-operative exams, and corrective procedures if required. The patient must also make sure that the surgeon has a provision for post-operative care. Plastic surgery costs are typically not covered by insurance unless the surgical procedure is regarded as a reconstructive procedure. However, several finance schemes are available, which allow the patient to pay the costs in easy installments.

At the advent of plastic surgery, the procedure was the preserve of the affluent few, since the costs were simply overwhelming. However, with advances in technology, plastic surgery procedures are now almost ubiquitous. This has significantly reduced the expenses, and made plastic surgery accessible to the populace. The costs depend on the particular plastic surgery procedure performed, and may vary between $1,500 and $8,000. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgerys most recent (2003) estimates, average expense incurred for a few major procedures is as follows:-

- Breast Augmentation - $3,360
- Breast Lift - $3,965
- Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) - $4,827
- Breast Reduction (women) - $5,351
- Facelift - $5,966
- Lower Body Lift - $7,874
- Rhinoplasty (nose reshaping) - $3,869

Male Plastic Surgery: Happening More and More

In this modern society, beauty and looks are valued an awful lot. As a result, men from all walks of life desire plastic surgery for aesthetic reasons. Men typically crave for a perfect nose, a slender waistline, a rejuvenated face, and normal-shaped ears. The key intent is to attain an enhanced look, which in turn instills a sense of confidence and self-esteem. Perfect features, acquired after cosmetic surgery, do widen a mans social horizon and certainly help him in wooing pretty women.

Men may also opt for plastic surgery to defy signs of aging. Wrinkles, facial marks and blemishes, unwanted hair growth, all can be effectively erased through plastic surgery. Plastic surgery has always been the primary choice for women when it comes to personal enhancement. However, with increasing awareness about the surgery prospects, more men are lining up for plastic surgery procedures than ever before. In the present scenario, it would not be surprising if a man comes up with a request for a facial plastic surgery so as to acquire the looks of his favorite Hollywood actor.

Mens facial cosmetic surgery poses greater problems than womens. This is because male facial skin has a richer blood supply. And since male faces bleed more during surgery, there is a possible risk of temporary pooling of blood under the skin, after surgery. Other factors that need to be considered for male facelift are the extent of beard growth and the hairline. Though advanced equipment is capable of averting any danger or risks, male cosmetic surgery is certainly more complex than the female counterpart.

Other cosmetic surgery procedures, including eyelid surgery, nose surgery, liposuction, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), and ear reshaping, are performed in much the same way for men and women. Plastic surgery provides a boost for men in their business life as well as love life. There is simply no reason why men would shun plastic surgery.

Laser Hair Removal - The Basics

Laser hair removal is getting more popular everyday. Most of us have our own conceptions about this treatment. it is important to know the science and the art of laser hair removal before you decide to get treated with lasers for hair removal.

What is laser- laser is the concentrated beam of light that is made of a single wavelength. This beam does not scatter light around but focuses it on one point. Therefore the energy emission is very high. In hair removal this laser energy is used to heat and burn the hair follicles. The full name of laser is Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.

How laser removes hair- when laser is focused on skin, it get attracted to the pigment of the hair follicle. The laser heats the hair follicles and burns it at the root. The darker the color of the hair, better the results. Similarly the skin should be light colored otherwise the skin also attracts laser and gets blistered. With latest developments this possibility is getting eliminated, but you must talk to your physician about your hair and skin color and the results expected.

Please find out more about the number of treatments you may need, the expectation of results, the side effects and the proficiency of the technician before you proceed for treatment.

Balding Cures Scams or Not

If youre one of the millions of men and women who are balding, youre probably paying an incredible amount of attention to the many companies touting products that will end your problems. Before you rush out to pay for the miracle cure, take a minute to evaluate the products and the companies.

One of the most important things to remember is your moms advice if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If you have eight hairs left on your entire head, a can of spray paint isnt going to make those eight look like a full head of hair. While theres some merit to the idea (mascara works roughly on the same principal and women with thinner eyelashes continue to use that product), use your common sense before you decide that this is going to be the answer to your balding problem.

Another point is to understand exactly what it is that youre buying. If you pay close attention to some of the advertisements, you still end the session knowing that the company is touting a cure for balding but have no idea what that cure is. If you hear an advertisement that catches your interest, be sure you know some details about the product. If you dont understand, ask. Any company that isnt willing to answer your questions is probably in the midst of a scam that wont work anyway. Also, dont settle for techno-babble as an answer. Be sure you understand. Dont be afraid of sounding stupid when searching for answers. Its going to be worse if you pay $99.95 for this product that turns out to be tufts of hair and a bottle of super glue.

Surgery for balding is a pretty dramatic step. If youre thinking of taking that step, find a reputable company to perform the procedure. The process has come a long way over the past few years, but you dont want to pay for a transplant only to end up with tiny rows of hair that look like a dolls head.

Theres no doubt that balding can be detrimental to self-esteem. Confidence can plummet with balding and finding a product that helps reverse that is vital to some people. The important part of this equation is to figure out why you want to address the problem and the lengths to which youre willing to go. With some careful evaluation of the products and procedures available, youre sure to find something that works with your lifestyle. But for some people, finding the self-confidence to simply go on is the more viable solution to balding.

Cultured Pearls as a Gift

Almost every woman loves pearls. They exude timeless elegance. Pearl jewelry gives a woman the look of grandeur and the shimmering white of the pearls against the body feels awesome. Purity is compared to a pearl, because of the flawless whiteness of the pearl.

You would have bought cultured pearls for yourself or for a family member or friends, but do you know what exactly a cultured pearl is? There is also a wrong notion that a cultured pearl is an artificial pearl.

When something like a parasite or some organic matter gets implanted in an oyster or mollusk, a pearl is formed. These are called natural pearls as they are formed by nature. A cultured pearl is something that has the intervention of humans. A pearl farmer inserts a similar object into the oyster or mollusk and the pearl that is thus formed is called a cultured pearl. The rest of the process remains the same. The only difference being implanting the organic matter into the oyster.

The size of the pearl, either natural or cultured depends on the length of time it remains in the oyster. The larger the size, the more valuable is the pearl. All these cultured pearls are grown on pearl farms.

Cultured pearls are very valuable jewels in todays world. No jewelry box looks complete without cultured pearl jewelry. Just like natural pearls, each cultured pearl is different from one another.

The value of the cultured pearl depends on the color, size, shape, and luster. The brightness and luster of the cultured pearl speaks volumes about the quality. A cultured pearl should be flawless without any marks on it. It should be round without any dents. The roundness of the cultured pearl determines the price.

Cultured pearls are found in various colors, white, black, rose, cream, blue, yellow, green, mauve, gray, and lavender. The Indian rose-colored pearl is very famous and most-liked. The color of the pearl is determined by the oyster or mollusk and their environment. Think of the rainbow and you will find all those colors in cultured pearls.

Did you know that pearl is the birthstone of people born under the Gemini star sign. Mystical powers and healing ability is associated with pearls.

There are several types of cultured pears, like Oriental pearls that are saltwater pearls and freshwater pearls that come from freshwater mollusks or oysters. Freshwater cultured pearls are less expensive and are more affordable for people on a budget.
Cultured pearls are not as durable as gemstones. They need to be handled and stored with a lot of care. You should keep them away from humidity or dryness. Do not spray perfumes or let your cultured pearls come in touch with your makeup. That is the reason why they say, cultured pearls should be the last jewelry to be worn when dressing up. After removing them, it would do them good to wipe clean with a clean and soft cloth before storing the cultured pearls in a soft velvet pouch.
Cultured pearls make perfect gifts for loved ones. All sorts of jewelry is made with cultured pearls, from plain pearl strands to pearls set in gold or other precious metals, or in combination with other precious gemstones. Cultured pearls give beauty to any jewelry they are set in. Pearls look extremely elegant on elderly women too and give them a dignified and sophisticated look, more than any other metal can. A plain strand of expensive pearls can be a lovely and thoughtful gift.

Hair Raising Stuff

Definately without a doubt it was a new image that was needed for my summer holiday. I was sick and tired of looking like the queen with the same hairstyle for as long as I could remember.

Well that was all about to change as I went on a rampage emptying every shop shelf of every glossy magazine that I could find. That evening all engagements were cancelled with Coroanation St, Emmerdale and Eastenders. Sacrafices had to made as I was on a mission to find the new me.

Settled down for the evening with every brochure and mag at my side, flicking through every page not leaving one unturned. Surely there had to be a style in one of them that was going to help me in my quest in finding the new image that I so badly craved.

A couple of hours of browsing had elapsed, and low and behold jumping out at me as plain as day, was the most wanting to die for hairstyle you ever did see. This was it with out a doubt. The style that I knew was going to give me a new lease of life.

After a visit to the shops, armed with hair colouring lotions conditioners scissors etc. I raced up the stairs to the bathroom missing every other step, I was so excited, Why would I not be excited? tomorrow I was to be a different person. No animosty spared between the old image in the mirror as I said my goodbyes

Smelling like a peroxide skunk I carried on following the instructions on the box. No matter how sweet scented that sachet of conditioner was it was not powerful enough to rid the odour that lingered all around. It was all going to be worthwhile I said to myself glancing down for about the hundredth time at the picture in the mag.
Forty minutes was up and it was now time to rinse dry and style.
(Enter the blonde bombshell)

Staring down at the photo in the magazine and back to my reflection in the mirror, something was wrong.

Two styles couldnt be any more different.

I followed the instructions as prompted, where have I gone wrong I yelled out loud.

I will tell you came a voice from the other side of the bathroom door. It was my husband who on hearing all the fuss decided to check out what was going on. Let me tell you what is going on I screamed back at him.

Explaining about how I felt about myself I handed him the magazine with the picture of this fabulous hairstyle on this beautiful model. He looked for a long while at the photo and then back at me, repeating this motion many times.
Darling I do not want to upset you he replied, but the reason that you will never have that look is because you do not have that face.
So why not make do with what God gave you. I have made do with what god gave you for 34 years and I still like what I see.

Effective Skin Care and Anti-Wrinkle Skins

Skin care has spawned a big industry worldwide. The leather coating that nature gave man to protect against wind and sun now needs additional care if one is to get a job, retain a job, get a fianc, retain a fianc, or keep the marriage partner happy. It is all in the show, and the show goes on briskly selling creams and lotions that would make you look younger, pretty, attractive, smart, and beautiful. Magic lotions that would bring the youthful charm back on your face.

Our culture lays stress on youth. It rewards youth with praise, likes their youthful features. Old age is a sickness. No one wants to grow old, or worse still, look old. How it diminishes our value, makes us appear insignificant in front of the young. The young seem to have everything all the happiness, pleasures, fun, and enjoyments are theirs to keep. How much the old would like to keep all of that intact, at whatever cost.

The face is the first mark of youth. This is where the anti-wrinkle skin industry starts. The creases, lines, and wrinkles on the face look ugly. Young people have smooth skin. You must get rid of these age lines first.

In fact, skin care can begin from your diet and daily regimen. True, the blast of the sun can damage facial fibers. Creams and lotions can filter that out. Still, the anti-wrinkle skin industry promises a lot more than that. It promises a young-looking skin to all that may actually never happen. After all, aging is an irreversible process.

Fast And Furious Facial

It doesnt matter if you are a stay at home mom, or a corporate professional. You need to keep your appearance at its best all the time, and that can be a hard job. But what if you dont always have the time to go to a Spa for a professional facial? Ive got just the solution for you.

Today, many Spas provide what is know as MicroDermaBrasion. With this technique, a Spa technician exfoliates the dead layers of skin from your face by using a system similar to sandblasting, but on a much, much smaller scale. With the dead layers of skin removed from your face, it now reveals the fresh new skin underneath. This can give you the appearance of a face lift, without the cost or the surgery.

Most women who undergo MicroDermaBrasion, find that afterwards their skin is sensitive, irritated, and sometimes swollen. Not to mention a professional Spa treatment takes a appointment, and can cost generally between $150 -$600 dollars. So what can you do for yourself thats just as effective, is quick, and not expensive at all? Its called a lemon salt scrub. Heres what you will need.

Ingredients:

One Small Lemon
Four Tablespoons of Fine Sea Salt

If you dont have a lemon, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice is fine, and if you cant get hold of finely ground sea salt, table salt will do as well.

Cut the lemon in half, and squeeze the juice of one half into a small bowl. Then put the four tablespoons of fine sea salt in, and mix well. You want a solution with the consistency of oatmeal. Then take a few fingertip full of the solution and rub in into your face and pores, making sure to scrub gently as you go. Leave on for five to ten minutes, then wash off with cold water.

You will find your skin is softer and smoother than before, with a nice warm glow, and it cost you less than a few dollars, and no more than 15 minutes from start to finish to obtain. Now you can duplicate at home, or anywhere for that matter, what the Spas charge so much money to provide, at a fraction of the cost, and look great doing it!

What Is Epilation

Have you wondered how many different types of hair removal exist today? Have you felt confused with all the different terms, used in this field? I don't blame you. I felt the same way before I started researching.

I didn't know what the difference was between epilation and depilation. These two words sound very similar but the final results are quite different.

They are both used for hair removal, but with the epilation the entire hair is removed from the follicle, whereas with the depilation the hair is removed only to the surface of the skin . This is the reason why with epilation the hair grows a lot slower compared to depilation.

There is another thing, too. Depilation refers only to temporary hair removal. The most popular methods for hair removal through depilation are: shaving, depilatory and friction.

On the other hand epilation can be temporary and permanent. The different methods here are: temporary - electric epilators, waxing, sugaring, tweezing; permanent - laser, photo epilation, electrolysis.

Lets discuss in more detail how the different types of epilation work.

Electric epilators have rotating heads that grasp the hairs and pull them from the follicle. This method is slower than waxing, as it can't pull many hairs at the same time.

Waxing is when you apply a layer of either hot or cold wax directly on the skin, which then you quickly pull with the help of a piece of cloth. Its fast end effective but its also painful. People who use waxing on a regular basis say after the first several times the body gets somewhat used to the pain.

Sugaring is very similar to waxing. The only difference is that you use sugar-based substance instead of wax.

Tweezing refers to hair removal using tweezers to pluck hair from the follicle. Its an effective method but its very slow at achieving the final task.

Laser refers to a method in which a beam of laser light is projected on your skin. This beam is then attracted by the dark color of the hair. It also causes permanent damage to the follicle. Although the laser hair removal is pain-free there are some limitations to it. First, it mainly works on dark hairs and fair skins. If you are dark tanned the laser hair removal will not be very effective. Second, there aren't strong evidences that this method provides a real permanent hair removal. Third, its quite expensive.

Photo epilation, also known as pulsed laser, is a newer method, very similar to the laser hair removal procedure. A pulsed light beam is used to destroy the follicles ability to produce new hair. This method is effective for any colors and types of skin but might be quite expensive, too.

In the electrolysis each hair is treated individually. A needle-like device is injected into the follicle and then an electric charge is run through it. This way the follicle roots are permanently damaged. This is a very effective method, but its somewhat painful and its also very slow.

I guess that's it. I tried to compile in this article the most important of what you need to remember about the different types of hair removal through epilation. I hope now you have a better idea which method will best suit your particular needs.

Use A Make-Up Brush To Apply Your Cosmetics

There are a lot of people who nowadays are applying cosmetics using their fingers, in my opinion it looks a lot better if applied using a make-up brush. This article describes the reasons for this and looks at the types of make-up brush which are available.

Blending

A smooth finish is what is required if you really want to look your best. Using your fingers and the fingertips makes it very difficult to get this smooth finish, where as if you use a good quality shaped make-up brush you can.

There are of course various oils in your fingers which can easily transfer to your face to make it look blotchy. This oil can also transfer itself to the make-up itself which can make it difficult to use in the future.

I often see people out and about in pubs and clubs and can tell straight away whether they have used a brush or if they have just simply used their fingers. I know which person I find more attractive.

Control

It is far easier to control the amount of powder or other make-up you are using when you apply it with a make-up brush. If you use your finger tips it is very easy to use too much and your face can become plastered. This can look really horrible and is a huge turn off. I would be thinking, what are you trying to hide beneath all of that make up? It also shows a lack of self-esteem and confidence on the part of the wearer.

This of course was not meant to happen and could have been avoided by using by a brush.

Which type of brush?

Most people believe that long handled brushes are by far the best for applying make-up, this is mainly due to balance.

When looking to purchase these brushes you normally get what you pay for. I would certainly advise where possible to avoid the lower end of the market.

When you look good, you feel good. It is a bit like wearing a new suit which you have spent a lot of money on. When you wear it for the first time to work or to a wedding, it gives you a bit of extra confidence as you know you are looking very smart.

Good quality brushes should if used correctly last quite a long time, they need to be correctly maintained and cleaned however to keep to their maximum effect.

Types of make-up brushes

These are the common types of make-up brush:

Blusher brush

Eyeliner brush

Eyelash comb

Eyeshadow brush

Eyebrow brush

Powder brush

Lip liner brush

If you do not want to or can not afford to buy make-up brushes, and are still planning to apply your cosmetics using your fingers, you need to ensure:

That you always wash your hands first

That you do not use too much make-up

You do not rush when applying the make-up

I hope this article helps you too look even more beautiful!

Being Prudent With the Use of Herbal Medicines

Herbal medicines have become a relatively cheaper alternative to some trusted pharmaceutically-made medicines. Although most people believe that using herbal medicines are safer or cause fewer side effects, caution is still advised in the use of these therapeutic herbs.

Here is a list of points to consider when you plan to utilize herbal remedies:

- First and foremost, consultation with your doctor, herbalist or any trained medical professional is always advised before any treatment..

- Some herbal products or supplements could pose a danger if you have certain health problems such as high blood pressure, epilepsy, diabetes, cancer, blood clotting disorders, glaucoma; heart, thyroid and prostate diseases.

- For persons about to undergo surgeries, it is advisable to tell your doctor any herbal supplements you have taken prior to surgery. They might have to be withheld for a certain period of time after your surgery if your surgeon states that they could impede the success of your surgery or recuperation.

- Only use the part of the plant advocated, and use it in the correct route of administration. If it is meant to be applied only on the skin, do not use it as a gargle or tea.

- Follow the recommended dose. Taking a larger dose does not necessarily guarantee you will increase the benefits from the herbs. It could do more harm than good, as with the herb valerian which could induce over sedation if taken in large quantities. There are also different doses for persons of varied ages and conditions, so your doctors advice should be followed.

- Some herbs affect the pharmacokinetics of drugs. They could reduce the efficacy of other pharmaceutical drugs. An example of this is St. Johns Wort which decreases the absorption of certain medicines needed for their therapeutic level. Ask your doctor to check the compatibility of your herbal supplements with your other medicines.

- Most herbal medicines are still unregulated when it comes to the manufacturing and labeling process. They might have varied dosages and varied preparations, as well as other additives. Thankfully, some companies already follow a standardized system of the preparation of the active herbal ingredients.

- Only use the herbal medicines for the time period indicated by your doctor.

- Also check if the diet your doctor prescribes you to follow does not clash with your drug prescriptions. A low-sodium diet should not be carried out if a person is prescribed with glucosamine, which contains sodium.

- Keep in mind that the therapeutic benefits of herbal medicines are usually gained slower compared to pharmaceutical ones.

- Some herbal medicines and their dosages are not suitable for pregnant women. They may not be well tolerated by the baby, thus, pregnant women should talk to their OB-GYN before taking any herbal supplements.

- It is also good to read some related literature regarding your supplements side effects or allergic reactions. Some herbs such as St. Johns wort and kava kava have been linked to serious adverse side effects such as allergic reactions and liver toxicity.

If used with discretion and common sense, herbal products have the potential to even equal or surmount the success of pharmaceutical products.

Diamond rings were in existence for thousands of years, especially the wedding rings. There is an interesting story about how this diamond ring came into being. When purchasing a diamond ring, look into the guide to decide if it is the right ring for the occasion. There are engagement rings, pre-engagement rings that are called promise rings, wedding rings, and several others for every occasion. Diamond rings are not only worn by the women but also by men. The Best Facial Care Regimen For Beautiful Skin

Taking great care of your facial skin is easy once you establish the right routine, and sticking to a regular cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing schedule can help you achieve a flawless, smooth complexion that glows with health. Every persons skin is unique, so developing your facial care regimen will be likely to require some trial and error. Knowing thoroughly what different kinds of products do, and what your skin type needs, can help you create the ultimate skin care plan custom designed for your individual complexion.

The first thing to consider when choosing skin care products and coming up with your treatment plan is your skin type. If you often notice flaking, find your skin is easily irritated, or feel that you are prone to premature wrinkles, you probably have a dry skin type. If you are vulnerable to acne and blemishes, or find that you constantly need to powder your nose to keep shine at bay, you have an oily skin type. If, like many people, you have pimples and grease in some areas and irritation and flaking in others, you have combination skin, which usually requires the most individualized care.

Keep your skin type in mind when buying the four products that will make up your skin care routine. You will need a cleanser to use twice daily, an exfoliant to use a few times per week, a moisturizer to use as needed, and one intensive treatment for weekly use. The cleanser should wipe away dirt, makeup, and excess oil, and will keep your pores free of clogs. The exfoliant will slough away dead skin cells that can cloud your visage, and exfoliating will help keep your skin looking youthful and vibrant. The moisturizer will tackle dryness, redness, and irritation so that you can maintain a silky smooth texture and a fresh, dewy look. The intensive treatment should be a commercially available or homemade mask that will tackle your biggest skin problem.

For your cleanser, look for a product free from alcohol or other potentially drying agents, and choose the gentlest product possible. It should be strong enough to cut through excess grease, but not so strong that it strips your face of the natural oils that keep it resilient. Your exfoliant should be especially designed for facial skin, the most delicate skin on the body, so dont try to make your body scrub do double duty on your face. The moisturizer you pick must be non-comedogenic to keep your complexion clear, and should be water based for maximum effectiveness. Use your moisturizer only when you notice redness or dryness. For people with dry skin this may mean applying a thin layer after every cleansing, but for others it might mean occasional spot treatments. Use a mask treatment once a week for a luxurious, deeply penetrating solution to your skin problems. You can find a mask recipe or premixed product for any issue under the sun, so whether your dominant skin trouble is acne, dryness, or visible wrinkles, or if your skin is in great shape but could use an infusion of nutrients, you will be able to find a treatment ideal for your skin.

Weight loss surgery to treat diabetes

Weight loss surgery is a treatment to cure diabetes.

According to the American Diabetes Association, nearly 21 million people in the United States have type 2 diabetes. About fifty four million are estimated to have elevated blood sugar levels and are classified as having pre-diabetes. Most cases of type 2 diabetes are a result of being overweight. By being overweight the body does not respond appropriately to blood levels of insulin, and in some people the insulin levels are lower than normal. This leads to the body being unable to regulate its blood sugars appropriately.
Several studies have shown that weight loss surgery can cure type II diabetes. A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 2004 showed that type II diabetes was eliminated in nearly 77% of weight loss surgery patients.
A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine in August 2007 showed that deaths from diabetes were reduced 92% in patients who underwent weight loss surgery, when compared with equally obese people who did not have the surgery.
It is becoming more apparent that weight loss surgery may be the answer to metabolic diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes. This revolutionary way of thinking is changing the approach to the management of type 2 diabetes. Medicines such as insulin and hypoglycemic drugs simply mask the symptoms by keeping blood sugar levels low. Weight loss surgery has a chance to lead to a cure.
A recent summit was held in Rome, Italy with over two dozen medical organizations to review the evidence of weight loss surgery on diabetes. The conference participants are expected to release a consensus statement regarding the role of weight loss surgery as a possible treatment for type 2 diabetes.
Several options exist for weight loss surgery and the two most popular are the gastric bypass, and adjustable gastric banding.

Propecia the Queen of Hair Loss Treatment

Propecia may sound like a fancy girls name but when it comes to dealing with hair loss she is definitely the Queen of hair restoration medications. Of all the hair loss products on the market there are only two medications that are approved by the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) as clinically proven to promote hair growth and hair regrowth while reversing baldness.

Finasteride or Propecia is one, and Minoxidil (Rogaine or Foam Rogaine) is the other and these are the only medications that the FDA has approved and only after very extensive clinical trials.

What is Baldness?

Baldness and hair loss is caused by testosterone, and in particular a version of it known as dihydrotestosterone or DHT, the male hormone that makes us look and sound like guys.

The trouble with testosterone and DHT is that after we become adults they start having a very different set of effects on our body.

You may start noticing hair grow out of your nose or out of your ears why it does that we have no idea, but we also know that hair loss on our head also starts and we simply dont buy into all the aerodynamic explanations that keep coming our way.

DHT starts to constrict the blood supply to your follicles and this starts to show initially as thinning hair leading to baldness. If you dont start a hair loss remedy pretty soon after baldness sets in then youll only be able to get some hair on there if you go get a hair transplant.

A hair transplant is a pretty drastic and expensive way of hair replacement and its better to deal with the problem before it gets to that point. Tackling hair loss as soon as it starts is the best way of dealing with baldness remember offense in this case is the best form of defense!

Enter Propecia shell make your hair stand on end!

Propecia tackles hair loss by directly working on your levels of DHT in your body.

By lowering the level of DHT that leaves less to attack your follicles and so they stay healthier for longer.

Propecia doesnt just do that though Propecia actively works to stop DHT from binding itself to follicles and choking off the blood flow.

Propecia went through a five year clinical program to test out how effective it is at hair restoration. Not only that it was tested rigorously to see what the side effects were and it is perfectly safe when used as instructed, with the one side effect previously mentioned.

Remember, Propecia is only one of two medications that the FDA has approved not only for effective hair loss treatment but also because it is safe to use. Soft Contact Lenses: What You Need to Know About Them

Soft contact lenses are made up of flexible plastic called the hydrophilic. When soft contact lenses are used, they absorb water in the eyes (hence they are termed as hydrophilic) and become pliable and soft. The nature of the soft contact lens makes it possible to fit perfectly on the eyes. Soft contact lenses are popular because they are used in the correction of vision and the property to contour comfortably to almost all the eyeballs without any problem, due to the right fit of the soft contact lenses and as they do not pop up like the rigid lenses.

Soft contact lenses offer wide range of solutions to conditions like near or far sightedness, bifocal vision problems and colored ones. A specialized type of soft contact lens is available these days to even reshape the cornea during nightwear. This makes the wearer to get a clear vision without even wearing the contact lenses during the day. The main disadvantage is that it is not a permanent solution and has to be worn compulsorily every night for good sight next day. Soft contact lenses protect the eyes from protein or lipid deposits and bacterial or fungal growth.

Soft lenses mold well on the eyeball, hence chances of dust particles entering the eye and causing irritation is minimized. Since soft contact lenses are made up of a special kind of material which is not only smooth but also has the capacity to retain moisture very well, making the surface of the contact lens stay wet, abrasion of the eye is avoided. The soft contact lenses are more permeable, allowing free flow of oxygen. Keeping the eyes oxygenated leads to a healthy eye, as they do need good amounts of oxygen.

Soft contact lenses need more care for maintaining them properly. It is good to go for disposable kind of soft contact lenses if the person can afford them, as they are a bit costly. If it is not of a disposable kind, it needs to be cleaned and stored in a solution. Care needs to be taken not to allow them to dry. If not cleaned properly, it may lead to eye irritation and infections.

Want to Lose Weight? Stop Dieting

I could have titled this one "Want to keep on losing weight? Stop dieting".

The human body is wise. Back when we were hunters and gatherers, survival depended on food supply. Lack of food lead to death. So the body adapted: when food supply is low, the body's functions slow down, which reduces the need for energy (and food). That's how it managed to stay alive during periods of famine. Even when food was available, it never was three meals a day. Our ancestors would hunt, share their loot, feast for a day or two, and seek food again.

Today, food is abundant. Survival is not an issue. Still, this evolutionary mechanism complicates dieting and weight loss. If you diet non stop, your body functions slow down, your natural expenditure of energy lowers, and weight loss stops: your body thinks it needs to protect itself from a famine.

How do you get around that?

By alternating periods of weight loss with periods of maintenance or even slight surplus-like what would have happened naturally hundreds of thousands of years ago.

By putting your diet on hold, you give your body a break. Its functions return to normal speed, and soon you're ready to diet again.

Taking a break also helps on the psychological side-dieting is hard, and after weeks of restriction, getting (partially) reacquainted with your favorite foods is a blessing.

ACTION STEP 1
Think about the last time you've dieted. Did you notice a "slowing down" of your metabolism? Symptoms include low energy levels, general unhappiness (or even slight depression i.e. not feeling like doing anything), and lightheadedness... Dieting for extended period of time is also hard on your immune system: even got a cold after 6-8 weeks into a diet? From now on, take a full week off after 3 weeks of dieting.

ACTION STEP 2
Ask people around you who've dieted if they experienced these symptoms.

What You Need to Know About Cellulite

The term cellulite originated in European spas and salons and they explain it as deposits of tiny fat globules on the buttocks and thighs. Cellulite is a buildup of lumpy, thick, irregular fat deposits with an orange peel appearance. The most common areas are around the buttocks, hips, and thighs, and is not necessarily a factor of body weight. You do not have to be heavy to have cellulite. Nevertheless, it is possible to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Cellulite is not a medical term. However, medical professionals agree that it is a buildup of common fatty tissue. The skin is connected by strands of fibrous tissues to deeper tissue layers, which separates the fat cell compartments. The increase in the size of fat cells is accompanied by a waffled appearance of the skin that results in the bulging of the fat cell compartments.

Speedy metabolism and detoxification in the body help in gradual elimination of cellulite. A healthy metabolism is capable of eradicating cellulite forever. The proper functioning of the liver is also necessary for detoxification.
Bio-ceramic additive reflects your body's own infrared rays, which help to break down cellulite cells and revitalize tissue. Increased heat and molecular stimulation enhances the effectiveness of exercise, increases blood flow, and accelerates metabolism to burn more calories.
Women who are concerned about cellulite can take certain steps to reduce the appearance or eliminate it altogether. Eating a well balance diet that is low in fat will help to reduce and eliminate further progression. Exercise is also an important factor; if the body is toned, it results in good circulation, thus another step in reducing cellulite. In addition, drinking plenty of water has many health benefits and will aid in fighting cellulite.

Genetics and hormones may also play a factor in whether you develop cellulite. While there is not much we can do about genetics and hormones, eating a healthy diet and exercise has proven to reduce and even avoid cellulite.
